I have one of their 10x scopes on my 223 bolt action. The scope excellent for the money. I have no issue hitting 10 inch steel at 600 yards with handloads.
I had two SWFA did not like the clarity picked them up at the store front, their rifle prices new and use were high, they took them back in trade for my first vortex much better. I had six hole rings that scratch by scope, I like the four hole you have more room to move the scope back and forth, I use a flash light also picked it up off a Vortex video, I use a full size bubble level on the wall to check both cross hairs up and down and side ways. Scope set on low power projects on the wall five feet away.
Wow. Thanks for the info on the November pricing! I just ordered that same scope for my Savage 308. I have a question about the installation method you used... Since you leveled to the reticle instead of the physical body of the scope, if the reticle isn't perfectly level inside the scope, wouldn't the elevation tracking be off to one side when dialing for longer range? I would think it's better to level the scope body so that tracking would be accurate even if the reticle isn't perfectly plumb. Is my thinking incorrect? Thanks again.
What you say makes sense but I haven’t seen any deviation when dialing elevation. One of my other scopes was leveled with the body and when shooting 1000yds it was 3 or 4 Moa off to the right. When I leveled it with the reticle it corrected it. It’s something you’ll just have to try and see. Most people shooting under 500 yards will probably never see any differences. Just my thoughts.
About 12 years ago I got a great deal on a new TC Icon rifle. They were phasing the TCicon out and I got it for about 1/2 the regular retail cost. (I paid about $400 in all). I don't know but I have to believe the Icon was the highest quality rifle TC ever made. Mine is in cal .243 has a rubberized all weather stock and the bolt is diamond cut and big and heavy with 3 lugs and the receiver and bbl are stainless steel and it has 5r rifling and a recessed crowned muzzle - . Mounted a nice quality Bushnell scope and sighted it in. Right out of the box and using Monarch 100gr (Academy Sports store brand ammo) my icon holds 1/2 in groups at 100 yards. I love my TCicon .243. As accurate as any high dollar custom rifle imho. Can't imagine why TC stopped making the Icon. Your experience with the first Compass I believe happened to a lot of guys. It got a bad reputation - glad SW took good care of the problem for you. I still get some funny looks when I tell others that my Icon in .243 is an awesome super accurate rifle. Then I show them my tight little groups and my store brand ammo and they are impressed. I feel lucky to have it. Especially when rifles of similar quality sell for 3 to 5 times what I paid for my TC icon.
