I remember when I first heard this song in 1989 and how wonderful I thought it was. Now seeing the video for the first time in 2024, I love it even more and find it brilliant!! ❤❤❤
Avevo solo 18 anni....mi piacque subito questa canzone....è del tipo di canzoni che non invecchiano mai....si ascolta sempre con piacere e adesso che ho già "suonato " i 63 anni, con tanta nostalgia.....
...Corienne probably had one of the MOST 'classic' looks a Pop Singer EVER had; it was SO 'retro', yet TIMELESS, that even when she 'returned' to the look (after 16 years), she looked EXACTLY the same, and didn't age ONE BIT! ..Probalby one of Pop's most visually ELEGANT Singers, up there with Lisa Stansfield, Basia, Diana Krall, & Celine Dion....
Still are....good music is timeless. And SoS is still performing and recording, as good as ever. Just we have an incredibly bad Music industry for the last 30 years.
I really wish I was 30 back then, but I was born in 2001... I guess I’m still lucky to know about this underrated group. I’ve just discovered this group 1 week ago and I can already say that it’s one of my favourite.
This gives heartbreak a new perspective, a new beginning free from resentments. Letting go of someone and a love that is not meant to last. For an empath like me. Brought my heart back to its track. This is a gem.
As I write this comment, Corinne will be turning 59 years young in 3 days. 30 years after this video, she is still beautiful and timeless. She has barely aged over the years and her voice is still exquisite. Happy birthday Corinne.
I remember when a friend bought this CD for me on a trip to the UK in the 80s and brought it to me in my home town of Sao Paulo. I’ve been listening on a regular basis to it since then. I remember people used to say that Corinne had a career in fashion modeling or something like that. She didn’t but easily could had had..
You said it. Corinne is a pure class act. Multi talented. Not only is she a musician, but she also designs the clothes in the videos and she is also the videographer.
Andrew S: Absolutely! This was pretty much everywhere on the radio in 1989 and beyond...hard to believe if you're a millennial or Z...but it's true...they were a very prominent British band then...this would definitely have made a great Bond tune...
of course! for one thing, it definitely borrows from "Up Up and Away" made famous by The 5th Dimension (and written by Jimmy Webb, one of the greatest songwriters of that period). 😉👍
It is mainly because when people grow and mature they change and refine musical tastes... an example is the GARBAGE that young people hear today... and it's massive. I'm pretty sure there must be good songs going around there.... but no one cares....
Well, there's 2 main reasons why this wasn't a #1 hit (and I'm supposing that your reference is "in the UK") .... Reason #1 = Label backing and promotion -- Advertising money is doled out to "the guaranteed winners" (which doesn't make sense)... If the hit is "guaranteed" won't it stand on it's own merit without promotion? Labels need to support "the weaker projects" = a healthy man doesn't need crutches or wheelchairs since he can walk on his own just fine --- So, yes... Either the Fontana label or PolyGram simply weren't willing to $pend the payola ca$h to promote this to radio and, hence, there was no exposure and the general public never heard the song (outside of already won fans of SOS) .... Reason #2 = This song is just outright pedestrian... It doesn't "go" anywhere... There's no dynamics, no mood shift, no climax, and NO HOOK... Even by late 80's standards, there's nothing that makes one sit up and declare, "Wow, this is a cool groove!" --- Thankfully Grunge was about to break.... unfortunately, so was Gangsta Rap >:(
@@Roostermania2010 This song not having grooves or climaxes ? Are you kidding? This was and still is a great tune. I attribute the song has flashback of the late 1960's sound as the main culprit, and that's no coincidence as famed producer Jimmy Webb was enlisted making the sophomore album. In the end, you're right, Fontana Records or parent company, Polygram, just didn't want to invest the time and pounds to "push" the album, which is a big fat damn shame ! Cuz Swing Out Sister certainly deserves better.
One of the best songs ever recorded, it's so catchy with great vocals and all the instruments especially the brass section giving this music lover a great big thumbs-up!
This beautiful music and woman is a gift that time has almost, but fortunately not forgotten. You could go through 10,000 weeks of The Voice and never get close.
One of my favorite groups of all time and Corinne looking very Audrey Hepburn in this video is classy as ever. There one of the few groups were every song on their albums is great.
As always, what else can I say... Gorgeous looks of Corrine, stylish, feminine, lovely voice, great songs, why can't female singers be like that nowadays???!!! COME ON, PEOPLE, what's happening????!!!!
Their videos always had the most attractive and high-class aesthetic to them. And of course Corrinne's physical beauty doesn't hurt either. The fact the songs are also rather good is just the cherry on the cake. I wish that British pop could be this classy again!
when I was a student, I worked in the weekends and had to start early. After I came home I always played a Swing Out sister Cd in an endless loop and went to sleep. The sound waves of their songs are grooved in my mind. Great and special music. I like them all but this is one of the best. If she wasn't so nice to look at, I would have closed my eyes ;-)
Love how this song has a very 60s vibe reminiscent of Burt Bacharach. I'm in my late 50s now and was into thrift store shopping back then because I was all about the 50s and 60s suits, skinny ties, and cuff links. There was a Rockabilly phase during the 80s too that was really big for a couple of years. In L.A. there were swing dance nights at many clubs.
I have loved this group since "Breakout" Corrine is beautiful and has an amazing voice. She has a beautiful voice! Thank you SOS for so many great songs.
I wanted to comment on this video in general and Swing Out Sister - Corinne and Andy in particular. But everything good, positive and beautiful about them has already been said. All I can say is I so miss the music from the 80s and early 90s. Thank God I still have SOS on CD and have their videos downloaded to share with my 17 year old daughter.
Love her voice: it's cool and chic, and the music is a breath of fresh air. All I heard in the Eighties was Breakout. Looks like I'm buying albums as soon as I can. This stuff is terrific.
One of the best pop acts that ever exists, for sure. Ask any greyhound. Super clip, too. Then I thought to add "Pure class" then I see someone already has!
Of all the 80's music of this style, these 3, with Corrine at the lead, leave an impact on anyone that listens to it and falls in to it. You cant help listening and falling back to what you were doing then. What a great time that was....
Ich liebe diesen Song und Swing out Sister sind unschlagbar gut mit ihrer Musik und die Gefühle, die beim Hören ihrer Musik entstehen, sind nicht mit Gold aufzuwiegen.
I am an 80s kid from the u.s and the summer of 87 was filled with "Breakout" playing on the radio, but I have never heard this song before. The video is fantastic and the whole thing has a cool sixties, Burt Bacharach, hip like Bond feel. Glad I found this.
When I first heard this song on Kaleidoscope World, it blew me away. I was already a fan of SOS since "Breakout" and It's Better to Travel but I was completely devoted to this group after this song and album. Plus, I was getting over being crushed by a girl I really liked so this album really helped me get over that. Had never heard anything like it before or since.
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb Yes that's right; every time I am in Japan I shop at Disk Union, Tower Records and other stores for those genres, too...fantastic selection new and used. I've been to concerts there where all the acts were from Japan and mostly singing in Japanese, but the pre-show music while people were entering would include Swing Out Sister and similar.
One of my favorite groups ever and one of my favorite songs by them, great clip, too. Even after all these years, I still get chills during the intro when the first horn line kicks in, including if I am listening to a live version. I just got back from Japan, a great place for looking for additions to my Swing Out Sister collection.
This is the best TOP CLASS video i've see on my life!! My dream is to listen one day a James Bond Song written and sung by SWING OUT SISTER!!! :;):):):):)
This track has it all. Great chord progressions and arrangement. A really fantastic song beautifully executed. No wonder I find myself listening to SOS again after all these years and just loving them.
Hearing this song, about the month it came out, was a complete game changer for me. I'm old enough to remember the sounds that inspired this, but that's not what drew me in. Here we all were, on the brink of the 1990s, the bulk of my future was ahead of me, I had no idea what was waiting for me. This album made me look forward to it.
Very nicely said, Mark. I totally agree. SOS has always been a ton of fun for me. Very stylish, and very "Euro". I had a great future to look forward to then......and I largely realized it. Thanks
Watch her hands. As a former model, Corinne seems very conscious about the positioning of her hands in her videos to maximum effect; very deliberate and stylized.
Some of it is about symbolism. I've just seen a few SOS videos and this one is loaded with basic symbolism , unlike the others where there's just the odd black and white symbolism. This video has 1 eye symbolism (eye of Horus) , the Black and White (duality) , cat fur hat (monarch programming). I'm only a minute in. I believe this video tells us of SOS's initiation.
Her background as a fashion designer really carries through all her videos. amazing Persona beautiful voice great on screen the camera loves her and she truly is the definition; the group is definitely the definition of Blue Eyed Soul. Creativity that went into all their music and the accompanying videos is truly unique and probably highly underrated when you think of the "stars" of today and the recognition so much mediocrity seem to achieve when super talent like this, although carrying a big fan base should be known to all.
my god, i was just 18 when this song came out in 1989. Now, next month, i turn 50. where does the time go? Regardless, this song sounds as good now, as the first time i heard it. Corrine is so pretty and elegant. And she has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
