By a Waterfall, Fox Trot from the film Footlight Parade (Kahal - Fain) - Jack Payne and His Band, with Vocal chorus (by Billy Scott-Coomber?), Kristall-Electro 1933 (recorded in UK; Dutch pressing)
NOTE: Jack PAYNE was one of the best British bandleaders of the Roaring 20s and the British big-band era. Born in 1899 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK, Payne during his military service in WW1 organized a series of dance bands to entertain his fellow troops. After the war he continued performing in small group settings until in 1925, when his six-piece band was tapped to appear at London's Hotel Cecil. By the end of the year, they were regularly featured on BBC and in 1928 Payne was named the radio network's Director of Dance Music. After four years with the BBC he quit his post, returning to the hotel circuit. During his career, Payne made a significant number of excellent recordings, from which the most searched for by collectors are Payne’s hot-dance sides he recorded for Columbia during his residency at BBC. He disbanded the group in 1937, retiring for 2 years to his Buckinghamshire stud farm. However in 1939 he again formed a 20-piece big-band and after outbreak of WW2, he became the first British bandleader to perform for the troops in France. In 1941 he again was offered a post as Director of Dance Music at BBC. Payne died in 1969.
