The big inner shoulderpocket is for the rainponcho who is made of the same material like the armprotection on the jacket. For this the jacket don't have to be waterprooved!
If you fill all those pockets, and the bag, put them on and go for a very challenging walk, on your return you will have developed great empathy for beasts of burden 🦙🐎🐪🐂🐘 Interested to see the dye results.
That is one of my favorite jackets. Very interesting. I really like the thought they put behind this. I do look forward to seeing you use it and what you do with it. It's to bad the screen is missing though. Mine has the screen, but I don't think I would ever have to use it. I had Angell seen me on some extra length fabric from a m70 shirt uniform on the arms as they were to shirt for me. Worked out well. I have the pants/bibs they were shory so angell sewn on extra length on straps seem to help. Mi e is size 56. They are hard to find the right size. Thanks for sharing mate. Look forward to it. Gotta love an army jacket. Careful with the waterproofing, it can really reduce breathability. I like this project of yours. Be a shame to lose that crazy camo though
I'd heard that the veil is supposed to offer some concealment vs. infrared detection, but I have no way to test this. Apparently people would often remove it so jackets that were issued might not have one. I'm thinking of getting one of those jackets and maybe cutting down a proper bug net and installing it (I'm in Canada where the insects are more aggressive ... my uncle used to live in Switzerland and had a camping trailer that did not have bug screens, which surprised my parents greatly). I might also remove the sleeves to make a cargo vest -- would only lose that one small pocket on the left sleeve, and it would be more versatile that way. I could even try to install snaps and make the sleeves detachable that way.
I have one amazing love the 10 pockets I use the back pocket to put my poncho in I love all the pockets had them at bursting point and they never ripped
I believe they changed the colours a bit from the original German pattern. The have tinkered with the Swiss one a few times. I believe this is the early 70's print.

Just a quick heads up, if you do find a pack that isn’t modified, the little springs that are on the clips of the pack are usually broken or missing. Nothing a pair of pliers can’t fix though.
The straps from the backpack are actual cut off from a load bearing harness from German Bundeswehr webbing. So here is Swiss Army gear and German Army gear mixed. Regards from Germany, Torsten
Hi Jim. Hope your feeling good. Where did you get that from? Looks great. I can imagine it would blend in to the woods here in Somerset this time of year, as all the trees still have leaves on! Even saw a bumble bee yesterday! I have the M83 jacket like that,but it only has 2 front top pockets and is known as the field jacket. Would like one like that though,with the rucksack.
