If they announce Switch 2 in the next couple months (assuming it's backwards compatible) that lets them market the games coming later this year as "Compatible with Switch 2", maybe even promising visual upgrades later. If anything, that may actually increase these games sales. Also if they plan to release a 3D Mario with Switch 2, none of these games are remotely similar to that or Metroid Prime 4, so people who want these series on switch 2 would likely want to pick up these games now.

Yet again, if Mario Odyssey was revealed in October 2016, and they’re following the same pattern as Switch 1 (Reveal in Oct > Presentation in Jan > Release in Mar), why would need a trailer before October?

The Switch was announced in a video in October 2016 and then released in March 2017, with an event in Janury between that, so an announcement video in late September sound very likely to me. And yeah, they will most probably show of the new 3D Mario with it. Been so long since Oddessey and they will probably not release it for the Switch but save it to the next console. But I agree that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond most probably is a cross gen title (just like Breath of the Wild was) and will maybe be confirmed as such in the same console announcement.

Five possible times that I that I think a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal could happen: August (since there's no 1st party game release scheduled for that month) September (as the final announcement of an otherwise Nintendo Switch focused Direct) October (just like the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer in 2016) December (Game Awards) Q1 2025 (only if the September Direct has bunch more 1st party 2025 games for the current Switch revealed)

Nintendo is unpredicable u never know when they will reveal the Switch Successor just guessing ain't gonna do nothing at all.

My friend is a GameStop manager and he said his Nintendo rep told him last week that it will likely be announced in January. Not sure where that puts the release, I guess the summer? Usually I wouldn’t trust something like this, but this same rep told him back in 2020 that there was no Switch Pro and was right about that.

I think they're intending on selling the Switch this year. They promoted the Switch. I'm in the camp that 2025 will be the year of the Switch 2, culminating in a fall release in October or November

It's possible that they announce it sooner, but I'm still predicting it'll most likely be a September or October announcement

I believe they took down all the announcement trailers because they are about to make a new announcement trailer featuring all 3 versions of the Switch in one trailer promoting a Prince drop for each version of the console

The difference with Switch and Wii U is that Switch is really successful and Wii U was not (to put it nicely). With Switch still having a good showing for this fall and holiday, you would have to lack some brain cells if you think the announcement for next generation Switch platform is coming before next year.

I think there will be a new 3D mario but not the launch title of this next console and instead will release mid-late 2025 as a part of Mario's 40th Anniversary.

I don't think any Switch 2 is getting announced until after the launch of Echoes of Wisdom. The reason is because they wouldn't want to cannibalize the sales of the new Switch Lite model they are releasing alongside that game. Announcing a new console before that releases kills the buzz to own that hardware and defeats the purpose of releasing it. I want the next console to be announced as much as the next guy, but it just doesn't make sense to do it when you're dropping a new SKU in 2 months.

Bro. Just humor me for a second and look at the Metroid Prime 4 trailer upload from after the Direct. Not even the trailer itself, but the title of the video. It says “for Nintendo Switch.” It could be cross gen, but you got it backwards. It’s for sure coming to the OG Switch, we don’t know if it’s gonna have a Switch 2 version. But okay, that aside, September Direct- I could see this going a few ways. The most likely way we get a Switch focused Direct without the next console revealed is if it focuses on titles for next year for Switch 1. And like… 141 million people own the original Switch. Nintendo would be INSANE to drop that install base and just stop making Switch games and jump to their next console. This is going to go the way of the 3DS- we’re gonna keep seeing budget titles released for the original Switch to give people something, but the main bulk of their developers are gonna focus on Switch 2. So it’s ENTIRELY possible we still get a September Direct with no reveal of the Switch 2 on the horizon. Even just a Direct mini or a Partner Showcase could take the September Direct slot, but I’m not expecting a Partner showcase. Nintendo’s gonna keep putting gas in the Switch tank before the oil change that is Switch 2. However, like always- you could 100 percent be right and we get the Switch 2 reveal this year. I still see no reason why it can’t be later on in October/November. Yes, Mario Odyssey had a 9 month cycle, but Mario Wonder had a 5 month cycle. And Zelda’s gonna have a scant 3 months. Nintendo very well could be dialing back the big reveal to release cycles, or those could be outliers. There’s no way to know for sure, since Nintendo likes hyping games, but they also seem to like hyping games a bit closer to release nowadays. Really, at the end of the day, I can’t say when Switch 2 reveals. My gut says later this year, but that’s a gut feeling backed by nothing substantial. We just gotta wait and see.

They aren’t going to announce switch 2 until after their fall lineup is released. Also Metroid prime 4 probably won’t come out until April, May, or June. The switch is doing just fine and there is no reason to rush into a new console. I think they’ll wait until February or March to announce the console and it will come out in September 2025 the earliest
