my orthodontist wanted me to wear trays for 14 days (30 sets in total i have) but after 4 sets when he saw i had been wearing them (with your life-saving app!) around 22.5 h/day and he examined me, he agreed to shorten the time for a single set to 12 days :) it means almost 2 months faster therapy all in all :))
I wish I had you as a Doc. I started treatment at age 54 in April, 2023, 41 trays. No major changes other than a moderate overbite which I want to fix before getting knew veneers on my top four teeth. At each appointment I mentioned the gaps between the end of the tooth and the tray on my top teeth. I was told it was normal and he would keep an eye on it. Then in early September a button fell off and I went to get that put back on and mentioned again the poor fit. He finally agreed at my 13th tray to rescan. Today I was given an entire new set and now I have 46 trays. So I lost almost 7 months of treatment. I wear my trays 22 hours and so I just am so confused why I have to start over. They plan to give me the scan box next week and hopefully to help me move through trays a bit quicker. You mentioned certain medications can affect treatment. I am on Methimazole for Graves due to hyperthyroid. Do you know of anything about this drug and it's affect on treatment?
I was told by my new ortho at my consult that I have roots like a teenager!!😆 I was so happy something in me is still like teen! I'm 46 years old, I take this as a compliment, he also kept telling me I have a nice face! I ended up choosing him as my ortho! Flattery will get me to open up my purse!!😆🤣 I start my treatment next month.😊
@@PeaceIsYeshua I am big into health and fitness. UPDATE: Due to life circumstances, I had to delay starting my treatment by 3 months! I just got my attachments on at the end of August and had my teeth cleaned the week before. After exclusively using a WaterPik With Grapefruit seed extract for the past four months, I now only have one level 5 gum pocket left (all the way at the back), and the rest are now 2 & 3s! I’m glad I was delayed, as I feel my gums are now healthy, and it didn’t take long to make a big difference! _______________ Thank you for this! So helpful! You just made me realize that perhaps I should see a periodontist! 😬 I’m going to a top-rated, Diamond plus Orthodontist, and they did x-rays, so surely they would have caught anything alarming, but when I got my teeth cleaned, I had a few level 5 gum pockets and several level 4s. I got a WaterPik with a Pocket Pik tip, used a holistic antibacterial agent with it, for five minutes every day, and in one month, I reversed all but two levels 5s, and I still have a few 4s, but I know these will all be reversed too. Now I’m wondering if I should get a second opinion before starting Invisalign since I have two level 5 gum pockets (though, they may be fours by the time my trays are ready in 3 weeks). Thank you so, so much for your extremely helpful videos. What a blessing you are to all of us!! 🙏🏻
Awesome video! I loved hearing the thought process and explanation for each of the hypotheticals you presented. It's very encouraging to hear how much thought is put into each person's individual case.
I am having bite issues, at tray 31 of 55 total…. Just about to start the second series of trays now. My teeth are definitely straight now but because a canine has been brought into alignment, that lower tooth now touches the canine in the maxilla. This causes my molars to not touch at all. This has been going on for several months now and my ortho says that they will only touch each other starting ten weeks from next week. So this is a marathon, not a sprint. That said, I would still recommend Invisalign wholeheartedly.
Thank you for this video. 5 days now with first trays. I feel like a teething baby again! I need a cold wash cloth to gnaw on. Lol. My gums and face are so sore. Even my cheeks, nose and around my chin & jaw line. I can't imagine 8 months of this! I hope it's worth it. My lips want to pout all the time. Weird. I feel like I need to massage my face several times a day. I appreciate the helpful tips and insights from others in the comments. God bless. 🙏🏽🙋🏽♀️
@@cait8573 I'm a month in, discomfort varies from tray to tray but generally after 4-5 days there's no discomfort unless I eat something particularly hard or that needs a lot of chewing or leave my trays out for too long, i.e. not being able to find somewhere to brush my teeth after eating while out on errands, even then its only mild and goes away after 30 minutes to an hour of putting the trays back in
@@cait8573 when you take them out set a reminder to put them back in, I usually find about 30-45 minutes gives me enough time to eat, find somewhere to brush and get them back in. For the first week or so I constantly forgot I had them in my bag for hours at a time after lunch 🙃. Don't be afraid to still eat everything you enjoy, and braces pain is the perfect excuse for an ice cream 🤣
So glad you found it to be helpful. The number of days to switch each aligner is a combination of art and science and isn’t a cookie cutter recipe for each person. Have a great day!
This is my second week of wearing aligners. Your videos are super helpful! I am on a 1-week tray plan (55 trays total). I noticed that this is not a common plan and I feel concerned about that. Under what conditions would you prescribe an adult that plan? I have minor crowding, a narrow smile, and an overbite but do not have elastic (I have bite stoppers, although my teeth can easily fit behind them). My jaw looks normal though.
Your doctor will determine the best wear cycle for you. Keep in mind that every patient is different and every treating doctor has their own treatment philosophy.
I never had any pain ot headaches and mine is tracking just fine. I starting to believe it is who is scanning you. I had tightness but never any pain and tomorrow I will be on tray 5
I have a question regarding the bands. If the bands correct your bite and the aligners just straighten your teeth. when everything is all said and done and we are living in a magical world of retainers, how does our bite not go back to the way it was? Retainers will only keep the teeth straight. What keeps our bite perfect for the rest of our lives?
What is the slowest (longest) period that you use for older patients? Do you ever go longer than 14 days per aligner (assuming 19-21hrs/day)? I hear switching at 5, 7, 10, 14 days but never anything longer than 14 days. Is that because after 14 days the aligners are probably stretched out/contorted and no longer putting a force on the teeth that haven't moved?
These are really great videos. Thank you. You gave an example of the bite correction taking longer than the alignment. What if the bite correction was going more quickly? Does that ever happen? In other words, could the trays ever inhibit the bite correction from advancing?
You've got me wondering if my orthos know what the hell they're doing. I'm 36 with a bad overbite. 42 trays. Have me switching every 5 days (have the vibrating device). Guess what. Tray 5 comes and my teeth aren't tracking. Big halos. Sent me back to tray #2. Asked me if I'm wearing them. Told her 22 hours. Seems like she didn't believe me. Told me to wear them 5-7 days. Okay, uh, which is it? Obviously 5 days wasn't enough if I'm not tracking? My office visit was about 5 minutes. Explaining nothing. Actually pissed.
That must feel very frustrating. Due to various circumstances, sometimes it is necessary to make changes to treatment parameters, such as number of days to wear each aligner.
Thanks for your tips Dr. Bailey. I’m an older ortho patient at 62 y/o and I’m on a 1 week tray change plan. That seems to be in contrast to your comment about older patients changing less often. I wonder why my Dr. is having me on a 1 week plan? I’ve just begun my 2nd tray.
Are you going to a dentist or an ortho? What is your projected treatment time? If it’s short, I’d tell my ortho I have a paranoid personality type and that for peace of mind, I’d like to keep each tray in longer. 😆 I’m going to a diamond provider and one of the top rated orthodontist in my area, and her website says that patients will wear their trays for two weeks at a time. About half of her patients are also adults. I hope it goes well for you!
Very good info mam..mam I have few doubts 1) normally how many day we can see visible results.? 2)is there any mouth exercise that stimulates the process of thee movie 3)on treatment after removing alienrs can chew hard food?

Thanks a lot for your app and channel! A quick question about Ibuprofen - does any dosage affect treatment duration? I sometimes take it for headaches or menstrual pain (400mg 1-3 times a month), is that already enough to slow down teeth movement?
I am 34yrs old with a large midline diastema. My ortho said 7 days but I feel more comfortable with 10 days. Can I do this or do I need the permission of my ortho. Will I harm my teeth by increasing from 7 to 10 days. I’m scared of loosing a tooth or having shortened roots.
Hi Dr. Bailey! Your videos are so clear and informative, thank you so much! I just had a consult with an orthodontist about starting my invisalign treatment and she said accelerated invisalign is an option where they use propel (vpro5?) And cut the treatment time in half, but I don't see a lot of information or reviews on that online. Based on you video, would the acceleration be bad for the teeth roots and cause mobility? Hope to hear your thoughts!! Thank you!
Thanks for your kind comment. Perhaps you can ask your doctor to provide some publications on the acceleration devices that are not sponsored or funded by the companies that make them. Good luck with your treatment.

I am 58 year old on hormone replacement therapy - with estradiol and prometrium- would I be a candidate for Invisalign to correct my teeth ? I have mild teeth crowding
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can potentially affect orthodontic teeth movement, but the impact may vary from person to person. Hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, can influence bone density and remodeling. Changes in bone density can impact the rate of tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. *Reminder: this is for general information and educational purposes only and not meant to replace the advice or care of your treating provider. This is general advice and does not establish doctor patient relationship.
Hi this great information. I'm 54 and I started my invisalign treatment on the 8th of this month so I am on tray 1 of 32. My orthro has an app that we are using for me to follow the tracking of my treatment. Tomorrow is my next scan to upload on the app to start my tracking. So far it hasn't been very painful just feels a little odd because of having something on my teeth. I do wear them at least 22hrs a day. Thank you for your videos.
If I had braces as a teen, could my teeth be moving quicker as an adult this time around with Invisalign? I’ve been changing every 3 days. Super minimal pain. I can’t stand when the aligners feel loose
I am 38 and my orthodontist said he puts everyone on a 7 day treatment plan and then sees them in 8 weeks to see if they are tracking. I will have to change my first tray tomorrow and I am a bit worried. When I expressed the desire to start off at 2 week changes because of my age etc, he looked a bit annoyed. Not really sure if I should change it tomorrow or wait.
Dr. Bailey, do you have any experience with the VPro5 device or other techniques for accelerating the treatment? I'm looking into getting Invisalign and I've read that using the VPro5 you can expect to change trays every 5 days or so, but I wanted to know the opinion of an expert. Thank you for the helpful content you create!
Great question. The research is inconclusive whether vibrational devices actually speed up the biology of tooth movement. It does seem to bring comfort (decrease soreness) to patients, which is a plus.
Im doing orthopulse so ive been changing my aligners every 3 days per my docs rec. But, im curious on your thoughts on this. What do you think of orthopulse/devices thats supposed to help you change aligners sooner? Thanks!
The evidenced based research on this topic is limited. I would suggest that you ask your orthodontist for research findings for the particular device you’re using. Many patients find that these vibrational devices are helpful for pain management.
I just started. My teeth are crooked but ortho says I only need 14 trays for 7 days a week each. Is this bullsht? I expected at least 18 months with these things.
Is it okay if I wore the same tray for 3 more days than prescribed. I'm supposed to change to my 2nd tray but my dentist is on holiday so I couldn't get an appointment.
I use Invisalign and change every 6 days according to my doctor. Can i change it in 5 or 4 days for a month? Because i have an event next month and i want to have a little straighter teeth. Is there a possibility that a tooth wil fall??
It's certainly understandable to want your teeth to move faster for a special event. Switching your aligners every 4-5 days is quite aggressive because it doesn't give time for your osteoblast bone cells to deposit bone. It's best to follow the advice of your doctor. See the video: How Teeth Move to understand the biology of tooth movement: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d991Z2JOhFk.html
@@TrayMinder if i change them the 5th day for 2 aligners and then on the 6th for another 2 and then back on the 5th for another 2 aligners? Would that be better?
Hi i hope u will answer this, im supposed to keep mine in for 2 weeks, i want to keep them in a day less, saves me 2 weeks in the end. U think that can also make problems? Because its just a day....
I'm 23 and I have elastics for overbite correction. One of my metal hooks got detached and my ortho told that it was not a problem to skip the elastics for a month till the next appointment. I still have 2 weeks for the appointment. Should I get the elastics back ASAP 🤔?
I feel like my orthodontist is rushing my treatment. He recommended me to change every 7 days, but my teeth seem to not be tracking because he wants me to use the chewies all the time to force my teeth down into place. He has only seen me one time since I started treatment 9 weeks ago. I use a scan box to take pictures so he doesn't have to see me in person. I personally feel like the pictures don't always give a good result as if I were to see him once every 2 or 3 weeks, maybe. Any thoughts?
I am 13 and my upper incisors completely cover my lower incisors, I don't have Invisalign or braces yet idk if I should ask my parents about getting them
If you’re concerned about tracking issues, then yes, increasing the total hours per aligner is wise. Of course, consult with your treating orthodontist first.
I just got my aligners in yesterday and that day my teeth was in so much pain from the pressure of the aligners. So, also... I have a really dumb question. The 22 hours a day thing, I get that I wear them for 22 hours (which I honestly do and isn't easy 😅), after that... I take them off? Then put them back in the following day?
Hope you feel better soon. It’s tough at first. Great question you asked. Taking aligners off for a break actually lengthens the pain period. Typically teeth are sore for the first 3-4 days. See my video on “how teeth move” for more information. Good luck with your treatment.
Thank you Dr bailey, is taking panadol night ok for pain. Also I take K2 supplement, could this slow down the movement? Should I stop taking it? I started taking K2 about a month ago and got Invisalign three days ago.
You’re welcome. Panasol contains aspirin, which has been shown to reduce orthodontic tooth movement in large dosage. Talk to your orthodontic provider about your options.
First of thank you for your trayminder app it's really helps me,i have a doubt please answer me mam,I'm on my 33 sets of aligner it's my second set of tray , after 2 weeks i switch to the second one & it's fits perfectly,But the doctor before told me to wear it for 3 weeks when i ask why he said just wear it he don't mention anything, but even in the aligner box it's written only 2 weeks per each tray,& my case is not complicated also,so what can I do? Please help me,? If the new set is fit then can i switch to the another set?
Hello, I am 50 yo male, I am at my 4th/34 aligner after 1 month (change every 7 day, for 8 month treatment, only upper tooth). Everything is OK, the track is OK. I have the aligner 24h/24 except to eat, it does not bother me. I had parodontal treatment just before, It was mandatory for me before start the aligners. When I change aligner, it's a little bit pressure and sore teeth for one day, but after the aligner fits perfectly and smoothly and don't bother me. SO I HAVE THE FEELING THAT I CAN CHANGE WAY MORE SOONER THAN EVERY 7 DAYS ! CAN I TRY EVERY 5 or even 3 DAYS ?? I know it is not the usual but I don't mind the pressure and little pain the first day everytime I change aligner. I have the feeling that my tooth move easily + I dont' mind the pressure and pain. Thank you for a response if someone can answer
Great question. Your bone needs time to rebuild after your teeth have been moved to the new position. Here's a video that will explain this in detail: How teeth move ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d991Z2JOhFk.html
@@TrayMinder Thanks for the response ! OK I've seen the other video, very clear explanation ! So there is a risk of loose tooth if I dont' give time to the bones to rebuilt... OK I don't want that ! Thank you and have a perfect day!
I am 27 years old and currently I am using aligners to move my front teeth to be aligned..i am on tray 1st and 10 days completed can I change to 2nd tray?
When you speak of root length is that a similar consideration to gum recession? I am wondering if people with receding gums are good candidates for Invisalign?
Gum recession is the loss of gum tissue, making the crown of the tooth appear to be longer. A periodontal exam is good idea for adults with recession, seeking orthodontic treatment.
I have long roots and an open bite. I am not dealing with pain at all but sounds like I need to be wearing them the 14 days to ensure proper movement ? Darn as I was hoping to reduce to 7 days . Do you have a video about rubber bands?
You should follow your treating doctor’s prescribed number of wear days. They may adjust the days as you progress through treatment. Yes, there is a rubber bands video on the TrayMinder RU-vid channel.
Every dental provider is slightly different and every case is different. Talk to your doctor about it to get some clarification. Good luck with your treatment.
People with previous trauma, short roots, history of root canal, adverse tongue habits, increased age, blunted or pipette root structure, etc. are at higher risk of root resorption, whether with clear aligners or braces. Close monitoring is crucial. Accordingly, patients should always follow the advice of their treating orthodontist because every case is different. There isn’t one rule that fits all patients.
