SWITCH RIFLE BARREL CHANGE: Installing and head spacing Savage-style barrels
www.proofresea... The PROOF Research SWITCH rifle features a Savage-style barrel interface that allows you to change barrels and cartridges in minutes. This tutorial also applies to barrel changes on Savage and Bighorn Arms actions. The slotted action wrench, barrel nut wrench, and barrels shown in the video are available through PROOF Research. www.proofresea...

Seems pretty darn easy. But you really should learn how to properly use a torque wrench if you're going to do educational videos. There is no way you torqued the barrel nut to 70 lb/ft - with the barrel nut adapter positioned like that, you're well over the torque spec. An extension/adapter has to be at 90 degrees to the wrench for it to be accurate, unless you've calculated and adjusted the set torque value for the angle and length of the adapter.

Everyone's a nit picker....including me. It looks like you were checking headspace with the firing pin in the bolt. I was taught to use a stripped bolt for a better "feel" of the headspace gauge....also the (uf equiped) plunger ejector needs to be removed for the same reason, not applicable hear, because if your manual ejector. I didn't catch what brand of rifle your were working on. Nice video.

I'll stick with my Accuracy International AT it takes less than a minute with only an Allen wrench.

I like this concept...

I think it is overcomplicated for a modular rifle. Take the Blaser rifles for example, you will need a minute to change a barrel and bolt insert.

Has anyone built a carbon barrel for the marlin 336c 30 30, is it possible?
@devenzang9550
@devenzang9550 5 лет назад
Sooo essentially its the exact same as remage and savage prefit barrels, except for the price of this gun (one barrel) you can have 10 (6-700 dollar) replacement barrels in remage or savage etc prefits..

What kind of accuracy are these rifles and barrels getting out at 100 meters?

Sub MOA, it's listed on their website.

When torquing the barrel nut, shouldn't the torque wrench be at 90-degree angle to the barrel nut wrench for the torque setting to be correctly applied without any additional leverage created by the length of the barrel nut wrench?
@lqdchkn
@lqdchkn 6 лет назад
You are correct. The 90 degree angle is so that you don't have to "math" on what a breaker bar at 180 degrees would be. Proper torque need not happen at 90 degrees. But to keep the torque numbers matched 1:1 then 90 degrees is what you'd want.
@derek1ee
@derek1ee 6 лет назад
Yes, agreed. But not everyone know that, and from the video it looks like they didn't measure angle and calculated torque either.
@PROOFResearchUSA
@PROOFResearchUSA 6 лет назад
Yes, ideally...but the little bit of length that you add with the barrel nut wrench, if not 90deg, will not change the applied torque by much due to the relatively short additional lever arm

Do steel barrels have a POI shift during long Strings of fire
@thumper9633
@thumper9633 6 лет назад
Short answer is, Yes, but "how much" and "when" depends on the contour, cartridge, firing cadence, the quality of the barrel and how well/precise all the parts are put together. In general, the thicker the barrel, the less poi shift you'd expect to see...Again though, there are a lot of variables that can have an impact on poi shift, which is one of the reasons for investing in a high quality barrel like Bartlein or Proof.
@Intrusive32
@Intrusive32 6 лет назад
tardterminator i think i read somewhere that proof almost guarantees 0 poi shift in carbon barrels is the guarantee the same in their steel barrels
@PROOFResearchUSA
@PROOFResearchUSA 6 лет назад
We do not guarantee 0 POI shift, but our carbon barrels help minimize it. We do not make any specific guarantees, but it is usually small to non-existent. This does not apply to our steel barrels, but due to the multiple stress-relieved steel, they also exhibit very little shift.

Just buy another gun why change the barrel? Or buy it in the caliber you want to change it to😂😂😂
@barryboyd7973
@barryboyd7973 3 года назад
You must be the only one laughing. Buying another rifle is more expensive and unnecessary. This system can be handy if you want one barrel for varmint and one for big game or if you compete and need to replace burned out barrels on a regular basis.

A factory gun doesn’t have the tight tolerances that a built rifle does and doesn’t have the accuracy to match it either
