Got tired of hauling 5 gallon cans and paying highway tax on the diesel that I use for my tractors. The local distributors won't fill 5 gallon cans so I started looking for a tank that would fit easily in my truck. I found this one on VEVOR and bought it with my own money. It is a good option for me that cost less then a steel tank setup with a pump. Not sure how many others are in a situation like me so made this video to show what it looks like and some stickers I made to help make a red tank legal for diesel in NY. Wish it came in yellow but red, grey, and black were the only options. It is single wall so trying to figure out the best options for a containment base / pallet.
Here is a Vevor link to the tank I bought www.vevor.com/... This is an affiliate link.
This is the 5% off code I used at checkout: VVKIT5OFF
It came to about $560 with the discount but inflation seems to be changing prices daily.

Lesson learned: I got the same tank over the Summer and when I finally got around to testing it, I was in a hurry and forgot to check the filter, so when I turned on the pump for the first time I sprayed diesel 12' up in the air and onto the side of my shop; luckily I was outside. The filter was loose. I tightened it and it hasn't leaked since. I'm just glade I didn't test it in the shop.

That's a nice setup for your diesel. Think you'll get a lot of good use out it of it over the years!
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It's perfect for my needs. I was surprised to find that on the Vevor site. Thanks for watching.

Really like this setup! I can see one of these in my shop in the future. I currently use the "racing" cans but they are heavy once they are full and filling up the tractor is a chore.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I really like it and think it's the perfect solution for me after searching. Used setups I found were all old and beat up and new steel tanks are so expensive with a pump. Surprised I found sich a nice setup on the Vevor site. Wish they made a matching containment pallet for it to be safe. Thanks for watching

Vevor comes through again! Really nice diesel station. I've also got a subcompact JD diesel, but bought a zero turn (ZT) last year (which is gas) and as such cut my diesel requirements in half (but ZT cut my mowing time by almost one-third). I now primarily use my tractor for snow removal and grounds maintenance, and now only use less than 15 gallons of diesel a year. My set up is a 15 gal "Flow Fast" and 12v electric pump. Your setup will be even better with the pallet under it for ease of portability. Take care and have a great day.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It's a great little package for my needs. I actually am looking at a gas zero turn now to speed things up that would cut my diesel usage but having a hard time justifying the recent 30% jump in price on all of them. A kubota that was $7500 + tax 3 years ago is now $12k + tax. I would still have to do the hill and wet bottom with the BX. Any of the diesel zero turns are over 20k with tax now. Everyone has lots of stock this year and from what I am hearing people just aren't buying so hopefully there will be deals in the fall. Thanks for watching.

Looks good. Probably spill less fuel as well. A fella cannot find a decent 5 gallon can unless you buy the 120$ metal safety cans.

The extra filter won't hurt either.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I think it will work out. Diesel smell bothers me lately so this should cut down my exposure to them. Pricing on anything good these days is ridiculous. Thanks for watching.

A 5 gallon container, last me 2 years. LoL I think I have a 1 gallon container with two cycle oil in it and that thing has to be 5 years old now. I have to find a way to recycle that gas. I recently bought the harbor freight 1000 lb hydraulic cart, with the 25% off coupon.. It jacks up exactly to the level of my flatbed and I used it to take a 330 lb safe off the back of my truck. I have one old and one new 5 gallon gas container. The old one I have two places I can hold on to deport in. The new one only has one plus you have to dick around with that shut off valve piece, and I make more of a mess spilling more gas with those newer gas containers.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Sounds like you need a bigger yard or should just switch to electric OPE. The new cans really suck and cause more spills then ever. That's what happens when the government gets involved. I have been looking at one of those lift tables but can't justify it yet. Thanks for watching.

Good video! I've been researching alternatives to 5 gallon cans as well...I take the d@mn NY nozzle right off and use a big funnel. Remember anti-gel in the winter!
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
This was a little pricey but is perfect for my needs. Can't believe it was on the Vevor site. I have never had a gel problem. Could be I wait for it to warm tp before going outside. Thanks for watching.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I wonder if you could spray paint it yellow with that new spray paint designed for plastics. Problem with plastic fuel tans is they expand and contract depending on the temperature and being exposed to sunlight. That could cause problems with paint. Our diesel containers are yellow as well.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Very little will stick to polyethylene without very expensive treatments. That paint would scrape right off. Thanks for watching,

In NC they add a highway tax to fuel but you can get reimbursed for the tax paid for fuel used for non-highway use. Like farm equipment, lawn mowers, boats etc.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Yes I think you can do that here also. It's something like 25 cents a gallon fed highway tax and 8 cents a gallon state highway tax. But the stations also have markups. Also more income tax forms. This was about 60 cents a gallon less then any local stations so it's worth it to me. Plus I am hearing $6.50 a gallon diesel may be back this summer with the SOS depleted now. Thanks for watching.

I would if we were younger. Made a mistake retiring here. Mine is still good with no problems. Watch the price as I have seen it go up and down lately but hopefully my link still has the best price. The 5% discount code helps some. Sometimes creating an account and logging in will also give some discount.

Fedex drivers, and all the carriers do a decent job, for the most part. Every pickup I've ever had, except for one, were black in color, nice Ranger.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Several years back fedex was the worst shipping company. I bet that ccost them a lot for damage claims and now they are much better then ups when it comes to shipping damage. Thanks for watching.

T you can make any video interesting. I live on 3 acres and would like to have a small b series Kubota with a belly deck. This would be great addition for that if I could ever get one. Vevor does make some decent stuff
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
My Deere is the same size as a B Kubota and its very handy with the loader but fuond it to be too heavy for mowing so I dont use the deck anymore. Any dampness in the ground and it rutted up the lawn. That's why I bought the lighter BX that is much less psi on the ground for mowing. Really surprised by what I have found on the Vevor site and so far everything I have bought or been sent works. It's like the Harbor freight for everything Harbor freight doesn't sell. Thanks for watching.

I never use off road diesel in my tractors for the following reason. If I buy off road diesel it is not priced the same as the on road diesel minus the state tax. What I do is to buy the on road, pay the state tax and once a year I file for a state fuel tax refund. Although the savings are not immediate, the over savings amounts add up to quite a bit over time.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
This has been perfect for my needs and on road is skyrocketing in price again around here. Thanks for watching.

Here in Wis, we can buy Off Road diesel at a few select Fueling Stations and the 2 truck stops. One is 10 Miles from the House, Used to be 1/4 mile before My move, I just drove the Tractor there and Filled up LOL... I did not see You use any type of pipe seal when You connected the hose at the tank ? I saw the "O" ring at the Nozzle Thanks Mike M.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
There is an o ring on the hose fitting and I bottomed it out with a 24 inch adjustable so it wouldn't back out winding up the hose. Probably could use a little thread locker. I put a little Teflon sealant on the nozzle fittings to be safe and lube them. I haven't been able to find off road an any pumps around here. The farmers all have big tanks and have it delivered. There is a new Loves truck stop about 30 miles away I should check out. Thanks for watching,

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I was planning on putting 2 of those barrels on a old boat trailer rebuilt to easily and safely haul them, this is mainly so when gas/diesel fuel gets cheaper I can buy a decent amount and have it available for my gas and diesel equipment in one location and without having to load/unload it. I will have to check to see if having those 2 barrels mounted on that trailer is legal. Thanks for the replay and reminder to check on the legal aspect of it.

Nice work, will there be an issue with storing the diesel for six months at a time, will you treat it with one of those water inhibitors for fuel? Always interesting content. Thanks
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I haven't had any issues but probably will try some additives to prevent alge. Supposed to be good for a year. The filter on this should also help. Most modern diesel actually has additives I have been told. Thanks for watching.

I got one but it didn’t come with a filter and the auto cut off doesn’t cut off ? I call and ask about the fuel filter and they said it doesn’t come with one?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
The one in my link still shows the filter and shutoff in the pictures and description. I just checked it. The newer model has that removed but is a different model supposedly and a different link. Wonder if they have run out of the older model and started switching. I would tell them you want them to swap it for the one with the filter. I don’t think the filter really does much because its not a water seperator but the shutoff is nice. If you used my link let me know and I will put an update in the description . Thanks for watching.

What brand/model is your forklift? Do you have a video on it?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It's a really old presto lift that I found on ebay. Don't know the number but it's rated a 2000 pounds 24 inches out. I have lifted quite a bit more though. Only goes about 8 ft up. makes a great work platform for working on yard equipment also. Thanks for watching.
