Just a heads up. You may want to check with your insurance. When I was farming the insurance company did not want the fuel storage anywhere near a building let alone inside. They wouldn't cover it if it burned knowing fuel was stored inside. I'm guessing it's in the fine print.
@Veritas1992
@Veritas1992 Год назад
Storing fuel inside is generally against fire code in industrial buildings (other than containers specifically designed to hold flammable objects). Also can’t fuel airplanes in hangars either for the same reason.
@brianhillis3701
@brianhillis3701 Год назад
@@Veritas1992 fuel storage of diesel is allowed. Fuel transfer has to occur outside. Mainly to keep explosive vapors from occurring and keep fuel out of drains. Insurance doesn't want fuel in drains or soaking into the pad. Many buildings are heated with oil and the tanks are in the building. Fill ports are outside.

We are a fuel company that just happens to have a bunch of tractors also! So we watch your channel as well as others. Good content. We buy some stuff here and there from JME. While this setup is sort of nice you should think differently. We deliver to a ton of farms and people with diesel equipment. What you can/should have bought is a 275 gallon heating oil/diesel tank. $600-$700 if you are getting contractor price. Legs, gauge, fill and vent and you can add any fillrite pump on to the top. 110v with hose for you. Still gonna cost $1600-$1700 but now you have 270 gallons or so of storage, the tank is rated for fuel and can be put inside - you throw a 30 foot hose and can fill outside, which is what you should be doing. The main benefit is you have a company like ours in your area come in and fill it with off road diesel. No having to drag it to the gas stations. Red dyed, no road tax being paid as your tractors don't need clear diesel for on road use will save lots of money also. The kubota dealers in our area do the same thing. Shame you aren't in our area we would trade you an implement and set you up, probably trade you tractor implements for fuel for a while also :) i.ytimg.com/vi/HeWUzjl-l0g/hqdefault.jpg

$1800? Yikes! I paid $200 for a 150 gal steel diesel tank at a local equipment auction and another $300 for a FillRite pump off Amazon . Hint: if you *have* to fill at the pump, go to a truck stop and use the high flow truck pump. It’ll fill that tank in 1/4 of the time. Better yet, call a fuel distributor and have them deliver dyed diesel. Ain’t nobody got that much time to sit at a regular gas station and pay road tax! Also, that SHOULD have a fuel and water filter installed. Don’t depend on your tractor filters to be the only line of defense.

We used to have a 300 gallon tank on a stand about 10 ft off the ground so no pump was needed. Just gravity feed. Worked great. Then osha or epa or somebody came in (I can’t remember who, was quite young when it happened) and said we had to get new tanks and put in a concrete containment so if there was a spill or a leak it wouldn’t end up soaking into the ground. Also had/have 60 & 80gal tanks for the pickup trucks. They come in quite handy.

The nub inside the nozzle let you know it's an auto shut off. Keep the manual one for when the auto one fails. I'm on my second one, but a flat screwdriver will work in a pinch to get fuel flowing. I second the flow meter on the other end of the hose as it is better protected. Store outside as well, the venting, vapors and likely no insurance in or near building is too risky.

I made my own out of a 55 gallon polly drum, the same pressure relief valve fits in one of the bung holes. I set up a fuel filter and a water separator on mine. Surprised that doesn't have anything to filter it. Also would be worried about allege growth as it's not completely opaque and no filter. Depends on how quickly you go through it I guess. Finding something rated for gas is a pain. There's DOT requirements for transporting large amounts of it.

you might look at AMTanks. If they are stackable when full that would help even more. Less room floor space taken by the tanks. I might even consider a 12VDC pump vs the 120VAC to allow for use in the field or other location where the additional fuel to the already owned transfer tank may be needed. You might look to see if that pump can be rotated 180 degrees putting the pump inlet on the tank fill side to clear the tank fill, or install a 45 or 90 fitting on the pump outlet to change the position of the hose so you do not have to keep un cam locking it to facilitate filling.

@brianhillis3701
@brianhillis3701 Год назад
Old metal tanks are often in very good condition. Old diesel was a protectant. Look for a possible water line that may be corroded. New diesel is contaminated with biodiesel since it is transported in the same trucks. Biodiesel is very corrosive if any water gets in the tank. Biodiesel and alcohol in gasoline were intended to stop preppers not help the environment.

Hard to believe but off road diesel in Oklahoma is more expensive than farm fuel. Main reason why is because all the farmers and everybody that had diesel vehicles were buying the red dyed diesel because it was about .35 a gal cheaper. Can't do that on a commercial vehicle, big fine if you get caught by DOT.
@williamgaines9784

Curious if your truck has enough power going to that bed outlet to run your 110v pump. That would be awesome. Fuel the tractors right from the truck in the field. When you are getting to the point of almost out call a local oil dealer to come out and fill the tank. It will save you a lot of money and your time messing with hauling the tank to the station to fill with those slow pumps. If they require 100 gallon minimum just make sure you have a few machines that need to be filled or topped off to make up the difference. Most oil companies work with construction companies to go to job sites and fill the big machines up all the time. Very common so it shouldn't be an issue for you.

Hope that works out well for you, I'm kind of surprised that you didn't go with the 180 gallon tank. Your truck could handle it and your do have a regular fork lift don't you? My brother had a 120 gallon tank in his shop truck and it sure made that F350 ride smooth. I need to check that company out for fuel storage for my generator, Like you I go through lots of fuel after a hurricane and going daily to find someplace that is open to get fuel is a pain, you are either sitting in a line for hours or going a couple hundred miles to find open stations. And I can always use it during the year to keep the fuel in it fresh.

I am surprised you have been using 5 gal cans all this time, especially with the 333G!! But if one of your trucks already has a transfer tank in the back, I can see why this hadn't happened yet. On the gasoline, my understanding is that you "have to/need to" set the container on the ground when you fill it at a gas station, or you risk static electricity igniting the gasoline vapors, so you only want a tank that you pick back up when it is full of fuel and put it back in your truck. Diesel is far less volatile so you are allowed to fill it without removing the tank from your vehicle. One Eye Customs did a video about the Scepter 14 gallon Flo-N-Go fuel caddies that he uses, looks like a good solution for gas and smaller amounts of diesel (they don't have one specifically for diesel, so you just mark one CLEARLY for that). Hint, if you set those higher than what you are trying to fill, they will gravity fill out of the hand nozzle. I bought a 58 gal Auxiliary fuel tank for diesel from John Dow Industries which works well for me, already had the larger auto-stop nozzle and delivers 10 gallons a minute, so it is fast! It does not have a 120 volt pump (that would be really nice....) but does have a 12 volt pump so you just need a vehicle battery. I like the idea of the fuel meter, may add that at the pump outlet just to keep track of how much is left in the tank. I don't have a fuel filter or water separator on my 58 gal tank, but I am looking at options there. Really, if I had seen the Scepter tanks first, I probably would have just gone that route with several of them for the amount of fuel I use.

Diesel is one thing, but if you did a gas version you'd want to add fuel stabilizer unless you thought you would go through 80 gallons fairly quickly. Ethanol Gas is especially bad for aging... Stabil, for example, claims 2 years fuel life - but you need like 1 oz per 2 gallons.

Courtney, would you mind doing a test with a 1025R to see if you can lift that off a trailer and move? I see Diesel is like 7lbs per gallon and with it being full at 560lbs plus the tank, I'd be curious if us guys with 1025Rs as the biggest tractor can move it. I'm thinking it'd be pretty heavy but possible for the front lift with fork setup. Thinking it could work for sure at the rear 3pt with fork setup and a car hauler trailer to backup to it since that is rated to 758lbs.

@kibbeystovall7546
@kibbeystovall7546 Год назад
Normally when filling containers with flammable liquids you need to be sure the container is electrically GROUNDED to avoid the risk of a spark generated by static electricity from the flowing liquid. Plastic containers, unless chemically treated, are NOT conductive, nor are plastic-lined truck beds. So while the container may be capable of safely storing diesel fuel, PLEASE confirm it (and your manual fill method) doesn't risk a spark induced fire! DEF is not flammable and would not have this same risk when filling that tank.
