Please let me know if you have a video idea or a topic you want covered as I take them seriously! Thank you and I appreciate you! -Doctor Eye Health (Joseph Allen, OD, FAAO, Diplo ABO)
I'm grateful for all the informations you provide. Please I've been having blurry vision for over a month now and it's getting worse even after getting a new pair of glasses, I feel my eyesight getting worse, what should I do, please help 😭
Can you please speak about Narrow Eye Angle’s. I was diagnosed last year after my pressure was a bit high. I had a bilateral iridotomy & although my pressure dropped somewhat it is still a little high. I see the eye dr every three months to keep check on it. My vision has not been effected as of yet but I do have bad eyesight with astigmatism in the mix. Would so appreciate you using this as one of your topics. Thank you!
I've had my right eyelid consistently swell on and off for several years. I typically wake up with it and it lasts 2-3 days. They have done tests and ct scan and no cause can be found. When it's bad and swells nearly shut they prescribe steroids to speed up the swelling to go down. Any idea what it could be? It's only the one eye.
I still haven’t found the issue I have, it came all of a sudden. There’s non irritated bug bite circles, they are totally flat and hardly noticeable. They are making the “hold” part puffy and giving me a drooping hood because of the fluid inside. My eyes aren’t sore. Not irritated or red.
I had a red swollen eyelid and went to urgent care. They referred me to an Optho asap. I had shingles in my eye. No rash and the only other symptom was a feeling I had something in my eye. Waiting 13 days caused scarring and myelin damage in many areas of my body, including Trigeminal Neuralgia and Post Herpatic Neuralgia. Do NOT ignore or try to treat at home. See a Doctor ASAP. Waiting has caused what seems to be permanent harm.
I can't be thankful enough to you, the concerns of my current situation were cleared in this video. Swollen eyelids have been my only symptom in the last four days. And I understand now why my doctor's office didn't call me back as they told me on Friday morning 😑!
Thank you for this video Doctor. I had a swollen eyelid in my right eye a month ago, went to my eye Doctor and he prescribed eye drops and eyelid scrubbing and warm compresses. After about 10 days it cleared up. Then just late last week my other eye experienced the same symptoms, so I am going back to see my eye doctor tomorrow. Thanks again for your great video and all the helpful info.
I wish I had seen this video months ago. I’m still having issues with my eyes after being doing treatments. I’ just annoyed bc all 4 doctors/ specialists that I go to don’t bother looking at the medical file that I provide to them every time there is an update after a visit.I will b switching eye doctor bc the one I have keeps pushing for plugs and I have been doing treatment with her for 2 months only. Im just frustrated with her . I hope to get the care that I need. I wish I had a doctor like urself that is so well educated in this matter of dry eyes. Thank for sharing your knowledge!
Hey thanks so much! That is very nice of you to say. I hope you can find a doctor you connect with too. Sorry to hear you have been struggling for so long.
Great video Dr. Allen! My daughter teaches kindergarten and caught conjunctivitis more than once from the kids. Her doctor prescribed antibiotic eye drops and told her not to wear makeup until it cleared. It’s important to throw out any mascara or eyeliner you’ve used so you don’t reinfect yourself. Expensive but it beats getting it again!
One time I had really swollen eyelid, was due to chronic allergic reaction from a facial mask. I had to go to the emergency and got two doses of injections and took meds after that. It’s really bad and I was so scared.
Orbital cellulitis for 2 months. Despite being given multiple rounds of antibiotics. Was hospitalized for 6 days with IV. Five days after dismissal and it’s back. Desperate for help.
Hi, this is a very interesting video, in my opinion, I may have developed an allergy after my eyelid was touched by someone else and from the touch, one lid swelled up red as you describe and the other just had slight redness. I used cotton wool on closed lids with warmed water with salt in to bathe my eyes. After about 2 days of bathing 4 times a day, I abandoned the cotton wool, and by the end of the week, it all went back to normal. It is very reassuring that it could have been an allergic reaction. Thanks & Regards Joe
Just dealt with a round of contact dermatitis, and allegy eye issues from ragweed. The ragweed issue resolved after a round of Pednisone, and freezing temps finally killing off ragweed. I have fields of ragweed that grows besides my home. This year was really bad for ragweed! My contact dermatitis was actually caused by a product, that was mentioned in one of your videos (Nerd Wax) I recently became an eye glasses wearer and has issue of sweat and warm weather causing my glasses to slip while working. My suggestion to anyone using Nerd Wax is to test that product somewhere else besides your face to make sure you don't get an allergic reaction, before you commit to using it on your glasses! I learned the hard way!
Was allergic to chemicals in clothing, and my eyelids swelled up horribly! Had to use prednisone for 5 days. It worked, but for a about a year afterwards, it would return and I needed another dose. Hated taking that stuff, but it was the only thing that worked. Problem seems to be gone now…fingers crossed. 🤞🏼
Hi Laura, Please answer, how long did it take for the swelling to go away after taking prednisone? And did you use it in the form of drops, pills or cream? Thanks!
@@MartinSieyes Happened several times years ago. After every occurrence, 5 days of prednisone were prescribed. The swelling got better every day. From what I remember, by day 2, it had gone down enough to cover with makeup, and resume all regular activities.
Thank you Doctor! It seems like I have the second one you talked about. I am in so much pain. When I move or blink my eye. The pain has been slowly progressing over the past three days. Going to the doctor tomorrow.
I’m glad I looked into this because I’m pretty sure I have periorbital cellulitis. Over the past two days my upper left lid has swollen up and it’s starting to hurt a fair bit to look left n right as well as blink. I will be seeing a doctor today because I cannot STAND issues involving my eyes. Will reply to this comment when I figure out what’s going on!
Update 1: I am at the clinic. I got here at about 9:45 and it is now 11! I don’t mind the wait. I came prepared with my iPad for drawing and my switch for gaming. The triage nurse seemed mildly concerned but there are plenty of bigger issues to deal with.
Update 2: I saw the doc! He’s not actually entirely sure what’s up. He has sent me home with eye goop and a prescription in case the eye goop doesn’t work. If the script doesn’t work either I have to come back.
Contact dermatitis-cats! After visiting a relative who owned cats, (I am allergic to them so I avoid touching them) I touched my eye after touching the upholstery and rugs where the cats lived- my eyelids became swollen and itchy. I am very mindful now of visiting areas or homes where cats live, and do not touch my eyes.
Every day I wake up with very swollen eyelids. The upper eyelid swells more than the lower one and bulges out . Ice and even massage do not fully help me . Only diuretics help me. My eyes hurt , it hurts me to look around, up and down . I went to the doctors and had tests. My kidneys and thyroid are fine. I drink enough water , hardly eat sugar and salt , do not drink or eat 3-4 hours before bedtime , but still wake up every day with swollen eyes . The doctors don't understand my problem. To go outside, I need to wake up at least 2.5 hours before going out. If I use diuretics, then in the evening or at night my eyes look more or less normal, but if I do not take the pills, the swelling does not subside even in the evening. If someone has come across something like this , please tell me how you handled it and what helped you.
Hello. May I ask if it is possible that only one eye has allergy? Swelling eyelid and there is a small lump and when touched and pressed it hurts. It is still an allergy? Thank you.
I have blepharitis and also an allergy to a common preservative (tocopheryl acetate). Thanks for covering this. I also have central heterochromia. You'd find my eyes, like, SO interesting.
I got swellon eyelids of sinusitis problem..I can feel the slight painful eyelids..it gets normal by the evening..but sometimes it looks odd that they eyes look like I overslept!!
Thank you. I feel a little more educated before going to the eye doctor. The description of the symptoms REALLY helped me narrow down what I might have done to make it swell. I was extremely worried because I had used a pressure washer to take peeling paint off a wrought iron railing on the front porch of my home built in 1955. I was afraid bits of lead paint had gotten under the eyelid, even though I had on glasses. Secondly, I had started to use VapoRub to get the wrinkles less noticeable on my face (it may be an urban myth that it works!) and I think I got some too near my eyes. So, I think the condition will be treatable...
This happened to me when I was in my high school time. I know I am allergic to dust but I didn't know I was allergic to spam. So during dinner time, mom bought spams and some other stuff. Ngl, the spam was good but about an hour later, both of my eyes started getting swollen(couldn't open my eyes) and red. Was both ichy and painful. It lasted for around 3 to 5 days.
Hello, I am suffering from sudden swelling in my upper eyelids, and my eyelids also hurt. Those who went through the same experience as me, please tell me what to do💔??
Doctor, in your swollen eyelid video you mentioned the types of eye drops one can use, could you give me the names of those, you recommended. Thank you!
I am also suffering from this problem.. since last 6months. Every month my right eye got swollen and redness and very itching..i am 22years old female i am depressed for that..dr. can you tell me the reason..? please
Hi Doctor, I am a 75 year old combat veteran and am wondering if i should put off cataract surgery in hopes of recent studies showing a chance for a eye drop that would dissolve the cataracts??
Thank you Dr. Allen for this very informative video. Here is the issue I am having. 2 days ago when I woke in the morning my right eyelid seemed a bit swollen and today it's progressively worse. There is no pain, redness or irritation. Based on your video, I believe I may have blefaritis. I had the same condition 4 months ago with the same eye. I was wondering. Can high pollution levels outdoors cause this condition? The recent fires in Canada has caused the pollution levels in certain areas to be very high.
@@paramitaghara I used antibiotic eye drops, but I believe it's a condition that goes away on it's own after about 4 days. You just have to keep applying warm compresses to your eyes.
My eyelids are always red, particularly my right eye, been this way since both of my retinal detachment surgeries. I do warm compress with the Bruder mask, it is frustrating. My chronic dry eye doesn't help either.
@@DoctorEyeHealth not really sure as to why, my right retinal detachment was more complicated than my specialist anticipated, my eye ball protrudes a bit, he had to go through the front of my eye and the back. All my eye doctors tell me I'm a unique case. I suffer with chronic eye pain as well from all the surgeries. I've had 13 of them.
Hey thanks for asking! With soaps and makeup - always best to try it out on the back of your hand first to see if there is a reaction. Cleaning the eyelids daily is a great way to prevent infections.
I had an injury at the back of my head in childhood. And my eyesight is very weak. Is there any possibility that the injury had caused my eyesight to be weak?
Have had swollen eyelids for a month. One eye is worse then the other. Which ever side I sleep on, that eye is worse. My eye doctor prescribed steroid drops but has only helped slightly. Any thoughts?
My recommendation is that you know what you are allergic to, and no matter how many drops you use, if you are allergic to something in the environment, the eyelid swelling will return.
Husband is in the hospital now with they believe orbital cellulitis. He woke up with it yesterday. They did ct scan and have him on IV antibiotics. Is this caused by weakened immune systems? Weird how he suddenly woke up with this.
Yeah! Here are a few videos on it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-USIG_KjlvNs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g3tHhCuTnkg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mR6d4QjN6KE.html
My eye lid upper and lower are red and itch. At one point burned. My eye lid is now droopy. I went to an eye doctor and just walked out with an eye glass prescription. It's been 3 months. I finally was able to get another appointment with another doctor but until end of month. So frustrated
I think I have a swollen eye but it’s not itchy it just hurts when I touch it but it’s not red either but it’s like hard to and it’s making my eye go down there than the other eye
Hey Dr. Allen! Please help me get rid of the stress I'm getting due to a sudden new observation. I was focusing on an object with my right eye closed. When I opened it, the object initially looked double & then it quickly became single. I know it's a common phenomenon BUT when I took observation with my left eye closed, it took a plenty of seconds to get the object single. Double vision in the left eye was fixing significantly slowly with respect to the right eye. Could there be any serious issue regarding my left eye muscles?
Hey thanks for the question! Initially, I do have a few questions on how you are doing this self assessment. Are you closing the right eye while the left eye is still open and then opening the closed eye? Essentially going from a monocular view to a binocular view? If that is the case, most people do have a slight phoria (meaning the eyes usually rest slightly outward or inward behind an occluded eye). Once binocularity is revealed, the eyes should try to align to refix with binocular vision. The more dominant eye may have a preference in this case. I would expect the more dominant eye to be more "OK" seeing single for a few seconds more than the less dominant eye. Usually this is not an alarm for concern, but if longstanding diplopia, blurred vision or eye pain occurs, always best to ask your local eye doctor. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@DoctorEyeHealth Yes doc, you supposed it right! I first close one eye & then observe the object with another eye for a few while then I open the closed eye and the object looks double then it slowly gets single with time. Btw I wholeheartedly thank you to reply me in detail for a particular eye-condition, now my stress is relieved knowing that I don't have longlasting diplopia and eye pain. Though I'll keep getting my eyes checked regularly by an eye care professional(but they don't discuss with patient on eye conditions as much as good doctors like you do!)
@@mathematicalbiologist154 yes unfortunately depending where you are , some practitioners can rush the patients Feel free to ask any questions on here regarding eyes I myself am an optometrist from the UK and find this channel an absolute pleasure God bless
Got engine cleaner sprayed on my eyelid. Swollen eye partially shut and little bit scared to be honest. But im taking my antibiotics now as prescribed by my doctor. Lets see how it goes. Dont wanna go to the ER you catch a lot of infection there lol
Oh my god you are a great doctor please I have a question after doing MRI for brain I had high blood pressure ,dizzy , scalp burning and eyes swelling around then with very light darker color and left eye twitching tingling on scalp was with contrast today is day 50 I am not feeling good and start to loss hair please doctor tell me what happened to my eyes, thanks
i have contact dermatitis . Pretty sure its from the soap i used . my eyelids got itchy after the shower . About 10-15 mins after and boom swollen eye lids and itchy skin
I love your videos!! Something strange happened to my eye you may find intersting. I had a bottle rocket blow up on my eye(eye closed at last second) resulting in a shattered lense and torn pupil and iris, I was also 8 years old and visiting family two states away, so they didn't bring me to the hospital right away and the two weeks I was there until my mother came to fetch me I developed dramatic cataracts. Got the lense replaced, but overtime without having the correct perscription my left eye overcompensated and the vision was damaged in that eye as well. Anyway, fast forward 15 years and I started seeing a ghostly white growth inside my pupil, turns out my body was trying to grow skin around the foreign object in my eye being the replacement lense. My eye doctor performed multiple stag operations to break it up and get it out of my window of vision, but now its growing back again, so I guess we'll just have to routinely laser it out as it grows.
Why is my daighter got puffy eyes last feb, congested nose and later mucus came out with mild nose bleeding. Got antibiotics by pedia, went to ENT and told it was sinusitis. Had spray, prednisone and antibiotic. Now its been 3 mos. But she still had puffy upper eyelids especially when waking up in the morning or of she cried.
So straight forward that I actually liked an subscribed my sons eye got bad in like 20 min I put coffee in his eye and a hot shower then cold compress if this don't work doctors but it's nice to know that's not serious after this video probably contact or pink
What about swollen/puffy eye and more than a year. I recently noticed the good eye being puffy too. I’m soo depressed because I’ve been to doctor’s and ophthalmologists.
@@DoctorEyeHealth yes I tried an antihistamine (Benadryl) for 7 days. I don’t think it really did anything. I was only given steroid drops and an anti-inflammatory eye drop. Didn’t do anything.
I need help. I had a bad allergic reaction to something and my eyes started to swell and blister. I went into anaphylactic shock and had to go to the ER. I have no idea what caused it and I’m scared it’s going to happen again.
What do u do when ur doctors don’t care and ur sitting with the same probelm over and over every year , swollen itchy swollen eyes and patches on skin ?
My son wears a sclera shell and his eye gets really swollen and red to the point we're he don't even want light to hit his eye or he won't open either of his eyes at all what can it be? I've took him to the doctors and they say it's nothing but it's happened 3 times already??
Hello, can you please explain what blood behind the retina is? My mother in-law has that and says that she's going to have to have it drained? Is it Macular Degeneration? I don't really know that much about it. Thanks for the info 🙂.
Hey thanks for asking. Blood can form behind the retina due to a few conditions but age related macular degeneration may be one of the most common. However, it is not something that "drained" but medications are often injected into the eye to help stop the bleeding and help with the swelling that occurs.
Ok, she said that she has blood behind the retinas and that she'll have to have her eyes drained. Can you do an explanation on Macular Degeneration, she's almost 80. I'm kinda interested in learning more about Macular Degeneration. Thanks for getting back to me 😀
I also have blood in the jelly part of my right eye - it never goes away. They treated me with oral prednisone for 6 wks, on top of direct injections of steroids. You learn to deal with it, unfortunately.
😢 none of these really help. I have severe allergies & eczema! I wonder if I can get swollen puffy eyelids from eczema!?? Bc it is all over my mouth & throat! The Dr prescription was Benadryl shot & some allergy medication. But it keeps coming back! I don’t know what else to do! Bc now I’m on a immunotherapy medication, see if this helps! #if I find the solution, I’ll come back to this comment!
thanks doctor , i think i have chalazion for more than 5 months its getting small but does not get way , i get double vertical vision in my eye after computer work is this related to chalazion ?
Chalazions can cause vision changes, usually this is due to the chalazion pushing on the cornea. With double vision, because it can be caused by a lot of things and some things can be serious, I think it would be best to ask a local eye doctor about it.
I think i have Periorbital oedema...my bottom & top eyelids stay swollen like fluid in them..i try not to eye contact with people..cause they always ask why is your eye so swollen. I thought by me having blumia over 20yrs was the problem because after i purged they use to get swollen but they use to go down but not now..
mine are odd. it starts with one eye getting watery and irritated. like seems from allergy or if get cold etc. and it actually spreads to the other eye and swells shut but cold cloth helps thing is, that drys the skin and then imitates that making the swelling worse after while it recovers drs dont got clue what to do about it. eye itself never gets red. they just say my thing is weird. its obnoxious but like drs said i just get weird things
I slept late yesterday after dancing, and just woke up my right eye is swollen (upper eye lid) it's not red but... It's paining and little swollen... 😭😭😭 I bought new eye shadow palette, and applied little to tryy... Has it caused that? 😐😐😓
