I will admit, a lot of the common criticisms directed at this anime are most definitely deserved, but I think even the harshest of critics can admit that Sword Art Online is a very beautiful looking anime with a gorgeous soundtrack to go with it.

This was my intro into anime, and while now yes I agree with a lot of the common criticisms levied against it, I'll still watch it once a year and I maintain that the first 8 episodes are pretty damn great

It has its flaws, but despite them, SAO will always be one of my favorite anime. The nostalgia and feelings I felt watching it are nearly unmatched, this OP just reminds me how much I loved it.

Fr I understand what people mean when they say sao could have done so much better with their concepts and I can see the plot holes to but at the same time I just could not care about their opinions because I grew up with this anime and it’s so nostalgic to me and I rewatched this anime recently since I never watched after the 14 episode and I feel like the second part was actually great and has a good ending man their is something just so special about sao i feel like it watching it helped me get through a hard time in my life im glad i got the chance to see sao and im gonna miss it when it’s over

Nah it was never going to happen, it's an adaptation of a series of light novels. They actually squeezed a lot out of the available material, all things considered. It's been expanded upon a lot since the original airing of the anime, and as someone who has read all of the light novels while I think the later arcs by the author are better (except for Alfheim) I still have a soft spot for the Aincrad arc lol

Yea,but i think he meant the author could ve made such a big anime out of the Aincrad arc and i agree it s the best arc in the series for sure,after that i liked alicization almost just as much. The reason why this hits different because it happened on season 1. When the plot actually is the strongest. "You die in game, you die in real life" we don't feel that anymore with the following seasons. It would be better if SAO stayed on that plot and extend the Sky Tower with each floor having plot until they finally reach the 100th floor at 5th or 6th season.

2012 was the first year I got into anime, I was 20-21 then. Now, as a 31 year old man, seeing this now still gives me those same intense emotions. This OP really got me through those good and bad moments in life in the past, and with everything going on in 2024 around the world 🌎 I figure we could all use a special place 2 escape the harsh cold reality of this world.

I so remember watching this one back in late June of 2014. And after finishing it I've decided to watch Season 2 in addition to various other anime which would turn me into the anime fan that I am today. And I have no regrets on making that decision as a whole.

One of the important essence of shonen - action genre is having *high stakes* & SAO had set it up perfectly. It really had the potential to be one of the greatest Anime series of all time with the likes of AOT in the same decade. *Tokyo Ghoul* lies in the same boat as SAO too. Both had a banger of S1s but then kinda fell off.
