There is another FF adventure remake called "Adventures of Mana" and its faithful to the original game.

Oh my God, SAME HERE! I could just barely beat it with the girl, but it was impossible with the boy.

To be fair, this guy's really overlevelled for all of these fights and he's also got a high sword skill rank, which makes the bosses so brief. Later-on he's also using strong materials on his weapons it looks like. I don't think SoM is *necessarily* an 'easy' game, but for better or for worse the difficulty of the bosses is pitched with the assumption you ran past most of the mobs on the way to them, and/or you having a bad earlygame class - Sage types for example - or no class at all. The problem with SoM's difficulty is it put in tonnes of systems to make your character more focused and much stronger, but because the game's aimed at all audiences, there's only a semblance of difficulty if you use figure to use absolutely none of those systems. Dark Lord would always be a crap fight thanks to the lousy humanoid AI, though, unfortunately.

@@Alessiel to be fair, when i was a kid i wasn't used to grind, and each fight became the hardest of my life, i remember that the battle with dark lord was so epic and thrillering. but 10 years later, as a veteran rpg player now, and with mythril, i decided to 1HKO Dark lord. what you say is true, this fights are meant for people that usually avoids enemies and don't have experience. that's why it was "hard" (and i can affirm this). But they REALLY should have added a +mode for veteran players. SoM will always be my first and favorite game. But we all agree with this: once you get Ludicolo secret shop, it all goes down to Mythril sword + salamander passive boost +15 sword mastery. this literally 1HKO's anything.

Mithril sword? Really? I usually do a heavy grind by the time I need to get to the airship to rescue the girl (on the boys route), so I slap some light elemental cyclops before gaeus cave and some earth ones at the exit. Usually end up getting at least the eye monsters at the cave exit to turn into black versions and it sons spirals all out of control once I get my hands on crystal Quarz. It’s been some time since I played the game, but as far as I remember, C-Quarz was an upgrade to mithril, though farming it takes a long ass time (slapping black version monsters for that…5%? Chance)

The mythril cave boss is the first I usually one shot with a charged attack along its length when it comes out. All downhill after that lol

You need to grind too. Because most enemies are very tricky to beat and that Basilisk always petrify me.

KayneArcheron That's a bad sign if THIS game is one of your favorites. I was thinking either Seiken Densetsu 3 or Legend of Mana. Heck even Secret of Mana is leagues better than this ridiculously easy subpar trash!

If you change job to 'Duelist' or 'Paladin' you get a good bonus to your sword attack.

RetroNutcase You are not alone. It sounds like shit and doesn't truly show the capability of the Gameboy Advance. Listen to a MUCH better game with better boss themes like Metroid Fusion or Metroid Zero Mission.

Yeah. I was disappointed to hear the boss theme. I didn't mind, though.

Getting the rare spawns (like cyclops) as dark variants is the real challenge :P

Basically the game's difficulty was pitched with the assumption you don't understand how to use any of the systems to make yourself stronger - forging, tempering, training weapon skills, classes (at least, having a good class). If you use none of these the bosses feel like a fair challenge, at least if you don't start grinding to compensate.

I also notice in a lot of playthroughs people have online that they distribute their stats evenly among atk, def, mg atk, and mg def, so that they end up doing less than 3/8 of the damage they could be doing if they just allocated towards the Monk or Magician class (in part because enemy defense offsets damage even further). Honestly, I don't know why people do this even as a new player, since you shouldn't expect enemies in the game to one-shot you for lack of a specific type of defense attribute (and since you don't get one-shot, you can expect to be able to heal any damage you take due to being able to have up to 99 recovery items). Nor should you expect the game to have required enemies that are nearly unbeatable due to not upgrading the right attack type. So, focusing on a single attack stat type is best as it saves time defeating enemies. Also, I notice people not knowing that you can do a 3-hit combo with melee weapons with the right timing...

Leveling up

It's a remake of the first game in the series (known as Final Fantasy Adventure in US and Mystic Quest in EU). Secret of Mana on SNES is actually Seiken Densetsu 2.

In the mana timeline it's either the first or the second (I can't remember if children or dawn was earlier than this one). But many characters from from this one reappear in SD3. One of the translation changes was taking the Underworld and turning it into Mavolia. Isabella/Bigieu from here and the Dark Lord are the bosses that later will appear in a branch of SD3. DeathJester, which only appears for a few scenes is the one from SD3 and his role there is expanded. The God Beasts in SD 3 are summons in this one (hell knows how THAT works out). It is implied that the mirage palace is what remains of Lorimar and there are a few other winks and nods but I hardly remember anything besides that. Also, Legend of Mana is assumed to be a fever dream/sequel of Secret of Mana (after the mana tree gets nuked) and it sort of exists in the head of the Mana Goddess while she is reshaping the world. The sprite child from SoM is now the statue where you save your game in LoM and the Naga Millionaire has a collection of statues of heroes past (the main characters from SD3). Children/Dawn/Heroes and World of Mana try to link the main entries together but it's never explicitly said how many years the stories are appart. As for, "how can Mavolians appear in every game if they are thousands of years appart?", well, they are demons, as far as I can tell they can live for as long as they please.

Zero Basssoul from what I gather from the Seiken wiki page this game probably takes place in either before or after the events in Seiken Densetsu 3
