By far the best ballad by Manowar. They finally got the full viking-feeling. I get chills everytime in the end of the song when they extend the refrain with ”place my body on a ship”
I sing this song to my kid as a lullaby and it's the only thing that seems to have much success in making him sleep song wise. Who would think a baby would consider a song about war, death and murder would make a child sleep? Certainly not me, but it was one of the few songs I know by heart. It's such a good song.
It is much more than just another Manowar song about war, death and bloodshed. It's an anthem everyone should live by. Live free or die with honor and a sword in hand (figuratively and literally speaking). May your faith be your shield and the truth be your sword, and never bend knee to no one. I wouldn't call the lyrics amazing. It's just the same lyrics Joey has written the last 30 years or so. It's like he has a vocabulary of 20 words and a randomizer. He used to be able to do so much better. :(

Unfortunately the Viking funeral with the burning ship is a Hollywood myth. What would usually happen is that great warriors were buried with their ship, not sent on a lake and burned. Their slaves were usually slaughtered and buried with then so that they can serve the warrior in the afterlife
In my horrible opinion, it's their best ballad. More then popular master of the Wind, or even then epic Hearth of steel. It's more honest, maybe, becouse we're not winner at all in our life. But when I got my lose, now i'll be ready for this.

Dude, first you should learn some european history before talking bullshit. All those people from the north are germans, the tribe is called Germans and I'm not talking only about people from Germany like it is today. Countrys with germans are all scandinavians + germany, netherlands, austria, switzerland, the Flemish people and some others... Norse people are no germans, pfffff good joke

That was the one line that did it for me. I was raised as a Christian, but this Viking/Norse themed music has been RESONATING in my soul lately. Just heard this song today for the first time and the emotion kept building and building. Then as soon as he belted that line, I burst into an ocean of tears. Definitely starting to think I was destined for Valhalla rather than heaven...
@@frankjuggaloheathen1035 if we should 1 day meet in Odins Hall though we won't remember each other i hope we share drink food and story's of our lifes on midgard together i use to be Christian too but I'm only 17 and It was years ago so my heart was not in it I just felt believing in that was better than nothing but once I hear this music I learned about the gods I looked up about the vikingr and there ways and fell in love with it if you like this music please for Odins sake go listen to brothers of metal there a separate band and there lead singer ylva has the voice of a Valkyrie
