Hi. I’m new to your channel. I have an MBA & got hired as an IT business systems analyst which I’m 10 days into. I really didn’t know it was a BA role bcos the application says enterprise systems analyst so I did not read up on any BA methodology. I also couldn’t find strictly systems analysis topics either. Now manager had set the scope of a project requiring data engineering knowledge & wants me to create a presentation, a business requirement document & an implementation strategy by Friday. He told me this Monday. Mind you all he did in the first day was breakdown the scope of the project they want to implement. No onboarding. It’s in an enterprise setting & im trying to learn the tools and systems used too. What should I do? I want to do well so that I can create a better onboarding for the next person cos I just feel rushed. How long is realistic to do all of this if you barely know the technology or systems that are most important to the project? Also seems like the stakeholders are internal. I don’t know how or when to gather requirements or who to meet as I wasn’t given that info. It’s all over the place but this is my first corporate job & I need to pay off my debts 😢

Hi, welcome to the channel and congratulations on your new role! It sounds like you've been thrown into the deep end, and I feel your pain for real. You have to deliver these documents by tomorrow Friday?! - That is so unrealistic of your manager to request. Here's what I think you can do and approach it with a bit of strategy: - I think you should schedule a quick meeting with your manager to clarify deliverables. Ask questions about what is expected in the presentation, the BRD (ask for a template if they have one) and the implementation strategy. - Request examples of previous documents if available to understand format and depth of information required. - Specifically, ask for the project scope and any existing PID, opportunity statement documents and a detailed project plan. These will provide context and detail that will guide your work. - Politely explain to your manager that a week is a very tight timeline, especially given your current unfamiliarity with the technology and systems. Request an extension based on this and based on the project plan/timeline, you can then determine the timeline for your BA deliverables. - If you're unsure about anything, ask your manager or colleagues for resources or brief overviews, don't be afraid to ask for help. - In relation to the stakeholders, your manager should be able to provide a list or point you in the right direction so that you can schedule brief meetings to understand their needs and expectations. Remember, it's okay to feel overwhelmed at first. The key thing is to take things one step at a time and seek support when needed. You've got this!
