I've always felt that with every artist and their work I can see a bit of their likeness in it and it was the same for her. I could see her style of nose and jawline and take to all of her characters and they have something to relate to her likeness.
@unionhd2707
@unionhd2707 9 лет назад
+You tried we all pick and choose what to implement into our style, this style has been around for a long time. Never generalize every artist as in having a likeness of a specific artist style because genuinely it's a mash of a ton of artists. SHE HAD SAID, LOISH- Developing my own style Developing my own style wasn’t really a conscious decision I made, nor do I have any specific methods for it. Looking back, drawing a lot, being self-taught, and developing my own methods of handling software had a lot to do with it. As for suggestions, I think it's important to draw inspiration from the styles that inspire you most, and to draw inspiration from a variety of sources rather than just one or two. I think working intuitively is also very important: try to draw what feels good to you, instead of getting too technical or over-thinking the drawing process. This makes it easier to develop your own unique approach to drawing.

Oh gosh... Loish a perfect human being. I'm worried I will never reach her level, even if I don't ever stop drawing. Mostly because I have a laziness problem. And I think my problem is very serious. I improve so slowly because I don't draw enough. I don't get enough motivation to draw daily and constantly. I probably make 3 sketches in a week. I don't really know what to do. I'm just gonna continue trying to push myself, even if it's really difficult to do so.
@TheDestroyer73
@TheDestroyer73 9 лет назад
MandarinCat from my expirience it happens to me and others so its normal but what you need to do if you havent by now is look at others work like she mentions in the vid also try to hang out with other artist as well! that way you might even get feedback from them,make new friends and overall improve right?
@MandarinCat
@MandarinCat 9 лет назад
TheDestroyer73 I do have artist friends, and I do look at other's art once in a while. Looking at other's art with the skills I wish to achieve does help me get some motivation. But sometimes, I'm just too lazy. And lately, I'm just too busy. I still try though. I doodle sometimes in class and try to look at art in the internet whenever I have a chance.
@TheDestroyer73
@TheDestroyer73 9 лет назад
MandarinCat hmm well maybe just set up your time after school finish hw then draw for a hour each day? or something to at least try to keep improving D:
@MandarinCat
@MandarinCat 9 лет назад
TheDestroyer73 Unfortunately, my university gives me hell of work depending on the class and the professor. This semester's very busy. But I'll do my best to sketch something every day. It really is the only way to improve.
@bakaunko247
@bakaunko247 8 лет назад
+MandarinCat we are basically the same person. like i read your comment and it was like i was saying it myself. the struggle is real but you just gotta push yourself, or maybe have someone else push you. sometimes a little help from others can go a long way. we can do it friend!

It's really awesome how grounded she seems. Of course I'm paraphrasing, but: Sycra: "Did you ever have any doubts?" Loish: "I have them all the time." Sycra: "Oh, still?" Loish: "Yeah. With everything I draw..." I think it's awesome how she admits this, even as successful as she is. Overall, I think she's awesome, Sycra is awesome. This is just overall... AWESOME! :)

What she said at end really hit me. I'm 19. It's going to be harder for me to get anywhere now. Maybe in 9 years ill get better. Just wish I didn't waste my life when I was 15 drawing what I wanted instead of the fundamentals
@ShackleKrow
@ShackleKrow 10 лет назад
I think you can see more progress sooner if you really focus on the fundamentals right now. I think the best way is to look up tutorials and try to duplicate the process and learn techniques. Paint from Life is one the most common suggestions I've ever been told by popular and experienced artists. I would suggest looking up art challenges on the internet that CHALLENGES you but within certain guidelines. If you are a commercial artists, you have some artistic-freedom WITHIN rules and boundaries. Clients want what they want, so learning to deal with restrictions while still reaching 110% potential in each piece is important to learn NOW. If you're not in art school, I also think KNOWING some of the prodigies of the world's artists is important. I learned more about U.S. artists than I did other countries, so I know about Leyendecker, Rockwell, Fisher, etc who were considered the early American ILLUSTRATORS. Also, do yourself a favor and create a piece that you are willing to duplicate every year- create a THEN and NOW painting that you can do every year that will show the progress, so when you feel like you have gone no where, you can look back and see what has improved. You can do a short-term one too- every 4 months you redraw the piece. You can do it, but you have to believe you can do it. You already have the understanding that it may take TIME. You're not sure how long, but if you start now you'll will reach a point in time where you are where you wish you were now. Progress never stops unless you stop.

I started learn fundamentals with 20 and now (1 year before) I easy get job offers. Just use your brain to learn and your hand to draw the rest does not matter. Beside, you never waste time when you are drawing what you want.
@elsevillaart
@elsevillaart 10 лет назад
Dont take age so seriously, art like plant seeds, some of them hatch and open earlier than the rest, but the later seeds catch up with the first ones, at the end they all blossom the same, some on their 15, and maybe some on their 50s, so dont worry and just draw what you like and study at your own pace. Art aint a race its a marathon.

I know that feeling, getting tendonitis, it sucks. I do alot of bodybuilding and strength training and I also love to draw, doing so much took its toll on me as well and I developed chronic golfer's elbow. I don't know what Lois' doctor was thinking but tendonitis can be safely prevented. One, obviously don't overstress the tendons, two, train the opposing muscle groups in the forearm that become weak as a result. For me, I had to train my extensors, the muscle that open the hand, for tennis elbow you would train the flexors I believe. But she is right, take plenty of breaks if there is pain, and as a preventative measure, train your opposing muscle groups to maintain balance. If you are using one group over another too much (especially if you draw or do other things) they will overpower other muscles and cause tendon stress and pain.

I've got the same problem (though I got through work) and one thing that's helping me remember the breaks while drawing is an app I installed on my PC called The Big Stretch - it just shows a small pop up (much like the ones you get if a new Windows update is available) and plays a sound. It's customisable and really good. My physio recommended breaks every 20 minutes, so I do that. I wouldn't recommend taking your breaks at the PC (Facebook etc.) though: stand up, stretch a bit, make a cup of tea. Using a keyboard or mouse aren't going to make things better, they're activities that still stress the muscles and tendons that tend to get damaged. A good idea is to try and switch position and not hold the same stance for too long. Also, try exercising: nothing too strenuous, just walk in the evening or something like that.

have to agree, my art school hated all the commercial / manga / anime aspect of my artworks, i had to change my style to fit and graduate, but i got back to what i love after my graduation lol However, i was really into childish girly art too, too "school" "teen" like and lack edgyness too, so i do think that the way they push me to express another style and way of working has helped me a lot. Thanks for doing that interviews, it really helped a lot cause i'm a freelance artist too and i'm struggling a lot to get work even though i have follower too (other 7000 subs on youtube and 1500 likes on facebook)

I like her work, i follow her on deviant art, she is super talented. Its interesting her point of view, i also think that aging you are not doomed, you can always improve doesnt matter the age you have, im learning more lately than when i was younger, but she is right about free time, when you get older responsibilities, family and possible injuries makes you draw less, but you can always improve. Try to do breaks every hour, move your body relax, get rid of the stress, so you can have a better life art quality with less injuries.

@elsevillaart

***** Yeah thats true, but there are always two sides, if you are comfortable with your style its hard to get the rigid off, maybe thats because you got a style that gives you clients, changing style specially out of your comfort zone its harder because you can lose clients, and you have bills to pay.

Yeah I was on an artschool for a few months and immediately noticed its just too... "artsy" for me. Exactly what she meant. And I'm from germany, so you're right with the european thing here. Every commercially directed artschool here is expensive. But germans don't tend to save money for school, like in the US, so its often unaffordable.
@ghostie7790
@ghostie7790 10 лет назад
Trust me a lot of parents don't save for their children here in the US either. School is flippen expensive here unless you go to a community school. My parents were immigrants and couldn't offord to save money for us to go to school, so we are taking out loans and going off scholarship.. but still so so expensive. Art schools here are expensive, I'm sure art schools everywhere are expensive! But we're in the same boat you are..
@mekabare
@mekabare 10 лет назад
ghostie7790 that's kind of sad considering parents know college costs money in the US! Here most public colleges FORTUNATELY are free, but for specific majors its just not good enough man why is highschool like the free trial of education that runs out after 4 years
