A sad story. Syd Barett was a talented, gifted young man. He founded Pink Floyd at the age of 19. He was kicked out at the age of 22!! When he was recording his two solo albums, Syd was on the verge of schizophrenia!!! Drug addiction is an illness... Syd had the wrong friends... Unfortunately, he continued to take drugs... At 24, Syd was a sick person... Psychiatry wasn't ready back then... Syd didn't want to go to the psychiatrist and didn't get out of the car 🚙... Nick Mason once said: We ignored the problem!!! One of the Barrett family was a doctor!!! He said: Everything is fine. Nothing is fine... Very sad... I'm interested in how Syd lived with his illness ??? Unfortunately, there are no more books in German...

Can't help but wonder if he'd been able to surround himself with a different collection of musicians instead of still trapped with his exes 'Waters and Gilmour' I think having Jerry Shirley for some of these tracks provides a glimmer into a different outcome. Shirley could actually keep up with Barrett and his shifting time signitures. We'll never know, but I don't for a second buy the madness narrative. If you've ever been gaslighted and then unceremoniously dumped by a megalomaniac I'd imagine you could empathize with the emotional state Barrett was placed in. You see his lyrics post Floyd are more than peppered with a sarcasm that I believe is directly pointed at his so called friends.

The style of the band at this point was heavily indebted to the first Pink Floyd album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but filtered through their own color spectrum. The Pink Floyd connection went beyond mere sonic hat tipping, since Alice Cooper played host to Pink Floyd on the British band's first U.S. tour. “We were the house band at the Cheetah for a period of time in ’67,” Smith recalls. “One of the perks was we could go see any of the bands playing there. Pink Floyd were there one week. I remember the first or second song they played, Syd went up to sing and boom! A spark came from the microphone and hit his lip. He just put his arms down to his sides, backed about a foot away from the stand and just stood there like a statue for the rest of the night. After the show, they came back to our house and partied with us all night long. Syd walked in like a zombie. He didn’t talk to anybody, he just stood there. He seemed a bit psychotic, and the mass quantities of LSD certainly didn’t help.” Read More: Alice Cooper Drummer Neal Smith Recalls the Early Days | ultimateclassicrock.com/alice-cooper-neal-smith-interview-2018/? Those bastards didn't even take him to the hospital after getting electrocuted on stage. Other musicians would not be able to spend a few moments with him. He was completely deranged. You should read a little bit, earn about what you're discussing. You think he surrounded himself with these people? These people gave their time an effort to try and get something out of Syd. They loved him. This was not his idea

Syd is mis represented. He WASN'T mad. He maybe saw things TOO honestly. When his childhood mindset was rudely ruined by the cold steel rail of adulthood and a music industry that, ironically, now pushes his genius at the same time of packaging him. And, being a soul less, controlled product was what Syyd feared.

Great fan made compilation made with care and love!! However, please forgive my intrusion but I must inquire why the omission of "Love Song" from BBC "Top Gear" 02/16/1971? Seems odd to collect the only 3 post Pink Floyd Syd Barrett BBC / live solo recordings in existence... Syd Barrett backed with David Gilmour & Jerry Shirley - 1. BBC "John Peel" session, London, England, February 1970 (5 songs performed) 2. BBC "Top Gear" session, London, England, February 1971 (3 songs performed) and only Syd Barrett live performance... 3. Olympia Exhibition Hall, London, England, June 1970 (4 songs performed) ???

Listen to Syd live (with backing from David Gilmour on bass and Jerry Shirley on drums) at Olympia Exhibition Hall (Last 4 tracks listed)... Syd is definitely rushing through the songs... He did not want to be there and perform... Syd couldn't wait to get off stage... Complete opposite performance from the more laid back and relaxed BBC sessions...
