Hello, Dr. Troy. So confusing. Fit husband (5'9", 155 lbs, carpenter - physical work 8+ hrs/day) had widow-maker heart attack at 52. (very strong family history). First angio showed plaques everywhere in his arteries. Tried to stay off statin for two years, did low carb/keto type diet. At 54 after chest pain/stress test/angiogram - re-stent original stent (was too small and clogged) and stent another area, too. Had to go with statin and now also on ezetimibe, too, to get LDL under 100, closer to 70. He's 57 now. I'm afraid to take him off the drugs. Of the 6 items that create inflammation in blood vessels he maybe has some homocysteine issues but no blood sugar issues. Otherwise we are dealing with genetics (lipo(a) or apoe4?) and stress issues. We have no idea whether what we are doing as far as med/diet/minimizing stress are working - doc says "if you don't have another episode you are doing good." What's a worried wife to do?
