Yes! So for this particular scenario, you'll want to downgrade to 3.3, then reupgrade to 3.4 following the steps above with whichever latest version or version + maps package package you want to go to. If you go onto the CyanLabs page, a bit further down you'll see instructions on what to do for this scenario. cyanlabs.net/tutorials/sync-3-manual-method-update-to-3-4/#downgrade
This worked FLAWLESSLY! I've been trying to update my 2017 Ford Fusion from Version 2.0 to the recent version from Ford Owner page and kept getting an error message. Also love that this shows a progress bar and says what it's doing instead of using showing "Updating System Software...." And I don't have a PC so I stumbled upon this for Mac and was so happy! THANK YOU!!
Excellent Tutorial. 2016 FORD F150 - Updated 3.0 (with NAV) to 3.4. Used a 32GB Sandisk 3.0. Downloaded (North America) files from Cyan using Firefox. Followed all instructions. Took 26 min to complete process in the truck. I love the new look & no more AirPlay glitching! THANK YOU!
2016 Sync 3.0 in F150 XLT. I was a little nervous because the Ford Sync website download page wouldn't give me access to the 3.4 download! Your instructions and download / install worked perfectly, and I'm fully upgraded to 3.4 now. Before today, I was stuck on 3.0.2 or something. 🤦🏻♂ I upgraded the USB 3 module 5 years ago, and updated to Sync 3.0 at the time. What drove me to do something now was that every time I tried to use SIRI or have a text message read, or receive a phone call - carplay would crash. Anyway, works great now, thanks for the help and tutorial! I will be coming back to you for new parts when I upgrade from USB to USB C. And I did this through my MAC.
Been waiting for this video for a while. It worked perfectly. Only issue I had was after the instal, the first three or for start ups of my 2016 F150. I would get a message saying the USB was not supported, even though there was no USB or anything inserted in the port. It doesn't do it now. The nice added bonus I noticed right away, is how many rural sideroads and streets that are now in the system. Surprised because usually here in Canada, the maps for the rural areas are just not there. So thank you Brian.
Also worth noting ford may refuse connections if you try to download more than 4 files at once, so if the other files don't download wait for the existing downloads to finish first.
Great video man! 10/10 on the instructions and walk through. Only little thing was that for the very first download after configuring to your vehicle, the download did not want to automatically start like the rest and gave me an error code when I tried to install on my truck. Came back and saved the link separately and tried again and worked! Other than that, great job! Just subscribed!
Yeee. Thank YOU!! It's worth noting that Safari changes gz to tar so you must use Chrome to download the files, the names and types won't be changed. I'm so juiced to have android auto now in my 2016 Mustang!
Who is this cyanlabs guy you keep mentioning? Great video as always, note the site is going through some redesigning so some of this might not match exactly in the near future.
WOW thanks so much! I got a few error codes in the process but what ever file the red screen said wasn't there i just came back in and replaced it and kept trying into all files showed and now it's working fine!
FYI, just upgraded today. Great VID but have some added info for Mac users. I was using Safari (latest version as of this post). For some reason clicking on the files to download would remove the “.GZ” and leave “.TAR” as the file extension. Additionally, it would change the file name by removing any characters after the underscore “_” What I found is you must rename each file and make the name match EXACTLY as it appears on the website to include the file extension of .tar.gz Why safari renamed the files is beyond me. Again, just compare the file names you click on to the file name that gets saved on your computer. Do a rename and make it match exactly. After I did this all was smooth sailing.
Had the same issue. I deleted and followed all steps using Firefox. Files stay as intended and worked great. 2017 F450 with a SYNC3 Version 2.0 updated to Current. Thanks for this post. I was lost and couldn’t figure out why nothing was happening when I inserted the usb drive in the truck.
I just tried the update while following the video and when waiting in my 2016 ford mustang it came up with an LST_ERR05? I found out this car originally had the 4 inch radio but previous owner installed 8 inch with the sync 3 3.0 ford radio and now my radio stopped working so I tried this update and that’s where I am lol. Any suggestions? It says I have a build of 17276
I have a 2019 ford explorer sport I got a red screen with errors I unplugged the usb a couple of times now it’s saying starting update with a timer in the bottom right is that good
I did this and it worked great for 6 months until now. The master reboot freezes on continue when executing it to load the newest Sync 3 build. I currently have 3.4 23088
I have a 2018 F150 with sync 3, version 2.3, build 17109. I bought a new 64 GB PNY drive, formatted to exfat on my M1 iMac, and downloaded version 3.0 from Ford and copied onto the USB drive. When inserted into the truck, nothing happened. No update. System acted like it didn't see it. So I repeated all the above steps. Same result. Is it safe to download from Cyanlabs into my 2018? I am the original owner, and there has been no hardware changes.
Same issue on a 17 F450 with Version 2.0 Sync3. Were you able to get it to work? I just read in comments above about someone’s Mac changing the file names to .tar only. Poster said he renamed them to match the websites names exactly and it it worked. I May try that or may use a pc to upgrade.
Please help🙏 Autoinstall.lst downloads as a txt file. So it shows "autoinstall.lst.txt". I cant figure out how to change it from a txt file and i suspect this is why I can't get it to work. Any help is appreciated since my sync 3.3 is super buggy. Thanks!
What happens to the splash screens (Lincoln) and things like seat massager, ambient lighting, etc. that are controlled through the Sync3. Know I’m late to the game but just got the ride. Thanks.
Hey sir, I was able to go through all of these steps. The until recognized sync update and the unit restarted but now it’s stuck on the “please insert USB stick” loop screen. I’ve tried a few different thumb drive but no dice. Port will charge my phone still. 2018 Raptor
Quick question, I am getting an error message that the license file is not on the USB stick. I downloaded all of the files that are on the screen. What am I missing?
I have. 2017 Explorer that last year I bought 5 years of map updates. Last year worked fine but since January I have been trying to update the new Mabs with no luck until now using your Mac update my next question is will I be able to take next year’s map update that I paid for and use them or no?
Hi! Some functions on my SYNC3 do not work correctly. I can not change the time, it's always --:-- and I can not change the climate control through the touch screen, buttons do not respond at all. Physical buttons work ok. Also radio, mobile phone, and voice commands work ok. Can you help with it? Will upgrading help me?
after the update poevilas this Installation In Progress Some features will continue to be disabled until this process is complete. Please keep the update USB in the system and the engine running so that it can complete. Close
Hey man I had ford replace my apim on my 2016 focus rs I tried updating not thinking it would be a newer apim they told me it was a remanufactured one so I thought it wouldn’t be newer than 2020 I put the flash drive in and my screen whent black is it bricked?
I have question, I bought car in USA and transport it in Georgia, EU and map don't working for sure but if I upgrade 3.4 from 3.0 and select EU version map will it work in my area?
Unfortunately you need a euro module because the US car doesn't have enough storage to hold EU maps. You may be able to create a cut down maps USB but that doesn't always work
I was looking for the video on identifying your apim module. I swapped out my 2015 f150 sync2 to sync3 in 2020 but the Navigation is out of date although it's showing the software being current 3.4. Is it out yet?
Email me on my site and I can get you set up with a cutdown maps package. You will need FORScan to change the region too. Because of programming, cost is $50, but you'll have nav for your region! Then if you ever want DAB just grab a ACM (CD player) from a Euro edge and throw it in there and we can program that to function correctly
