Sync Audio to Video Easily in Davinci Resolve 18 Tutorial

Any suggestions for when auto sync based on waveform doesn’t work? I find this happens about half of the time. The problem is that dialogue waveforms are pretty flat and don’t have the contrast Resolve looks for. A slate waveform peak is great but ACs will typically only click it once so of course every clip has one good waveform peak which doesn’t help anything. When possible, I (as the editor) strongly request that they either clap it multiple times in differing patterns or I use a metronome set to different bpm each take. Both methods make sync based on waveform work perfectly every time. Absent that, it’s a matter of listening to hours of playback to populate the metadata because if course nobody dares to use the built in slate (on a bmpcc.). The 24 hour clock is quite helpful but again, nobody sets those in production. So the question again becomes: what is an efficient way to sync large numbers of clips when auto detect fails to auto detect?

Unfortunately the only thing off the top of my head is manually sinking the audio to video. Using a timecode generator would also work really well and quite elegantly for that. You might also try using uncompressed audio and amplifying it to unity before you try to sync audio files.

@@HikingWithCooper you can listen to both early in the recording, set a marker on each of the same word. Line them up and nudge by frame to line up. You can actually move audio subframe. Then if you can see the speaker make sure mouth movements when letters require movement match on several points in the video.

It actually does sync multiple clips. You just do the same technique as shown in this video but select all your clips.
