Yeah, cause not owning something cause you might breaking it is the dumbest life strategy ever and probably, a totally disingenuous premise for a video on the device. I own one, I bought a case for it, its fantastic for my podcasts when I'm on the road. If I break it so what!
Is it possible to keyframe the 3D positioning of a sound when working with an Atmos object? (I've only found a way to keyframe one of the three dimensions at a time)
Well yeah, a good phone costs more than the Tascam and if you break the screen on it you are out of luck also. You can do a LOT more with a touch screen than you can with knobs. And I bet if you drop that Zoom H8, it will break also. I have an H5, not nearly as impressed with it as I am the Tascam X8. Recordings on the Tascam sound much more professional with little done during mixdown. The Zoom preamps sound harsh and tinny to my ears. Not bad, but not warm and full like the Tascam preamps. The Zoom does record more tracks, but it's also much bulkier and 6 tracks for a field recorder is more than enough in most cases.
If it drops, It will most likely break entirely. Especially the mics.I don’t believe that any of those type of devices are drop safe. Please correct me if i’m wrong, I still can return mine.
I would be happy when there would be sund under the video. (The BUS1 setting was not set by default, added manually and in my windows mixer the output is default and not muted) still no sound,
Have you cracked this tascam device? Of course if you smash the display in youre gonna have issues. If you crack the glass, why would you lose the display? Ive cracked numerous touch displays that i can still properly use, and the thing is thay each time i never used proper screen protection
Hey, just like smartphones, they make screen protectors for this thing. Idk about you, but i treat this thing like an expensive microphone, or just like my actual phone. One of the biggest aspects that you couldnt speak on was the out of the box capabilities without taking into consideration of any building microphone or audio collection. For a lot of people, this will be the best option to get into serious portable sterio recording. For instance, theres so much you can do with this, but when i unboxed it i was under a hail storm. After turning it on i realized "wait, i have the perfect tool to record the sound of this storm and get some unique moments." Without doing anything but putting batteries, an sd card, and turning it on i was able to record the storm throughout numerous moments. Funny thing is that my whole device withstood light misting and running around as i tried to not drench my new device. Easy to say that this review is absolutely pointless as its clear youve not owned the device

Great recomendations. I would suggest the DR-70D over the DR-60D. For an extra $20-$30 used, you get 4 XLR inputs and a more ergonometric form factor. You can hang it around your neck like a tradtional location sound recorder.
I just want to export two distinct audio files instead of a combined file, but I can't see how to do that anymore. Apparently, in older versions, you could set up a 'multitrack bus' that would enable this, but that doesn't seem to be an option anymore. Why is this so difficult?
The Tascam Portacapture X8 is excellent. Loving mine. Although the ap isn't worth a rats rear. When it's decides to link up it's great. There's a big BUT! It rarely does :( It may Take up to half an hour... 🪰🪰💩🪰🪰
If you recording with a DSLR but record sound to the DR-60D, how do you sync the sound later? do you need good video editing app skills or can anybody do it?
I think you failed because i didnt want it before but now i do... if uour laptop breaks its screen youll lose most functionality like monitoring... if your phone's lcd breakes beyond minor crack youll also lose functionality. I think you are either promoting this product subliminally or you just may be nit picking

Is there a way to keyframe the movement/pan? Like, I have a Foley track and there are some footsteps somewhere in the story that I want to pan from left to right. But I don’t necessarily want to set the entire track to either left or right. Just that part where the feet are walking through. Or do I need to create an entirely new track for just that part where the feet are walking from left to right?
Yea so uh I got an X8 recently but still need to figure some stuff with it…but yea some other guy had a video with some other zoom’s and he was going on how he liked the Tascam mixer and all its functions

Is it better to share a track (i.e., 50 different scenes in a film all have their audio segments on one track)? Or is it better that there be 50 different tracks in such a scenario? Or some hybrid? I ask, because I realize that adjusting the mixer hits EVERY single audio clip on a track, not just one I want to highlight and isolate changes to. I do know you can drag effects onto individual sound clip to avoid impacting the other clips on the same track.
Not all that many portable recorders have 32 bit. Unless you go with Sound Devices, this recorder is one of the few portables that does have 32 bit Float. The possibility of the screen breaking is about the same as any piece of equipment breaking. I'll take the Tascam X8 over the Zoom H6 any day, due to the 32 bit float.
Hi, I have a problem and I hope you can help me. I just recorded my voice with the recorder. The audio was very clear and loud. Now I'm playing the audio on my laptop and the recording is incredibly quiet, even on maximum volume it's barely audible. Do you have any idea why that is and how I can fix it? Is there a way to not have to record all of it again?
There are a couple possible culprits. I'd check the levels (next to the inputs) of your "Camera Out" connection compared to your "Phones" and connection. Having the camera out volume too low or your headphones too high can create that sitiation. You could also check if your mic requires phantom power, and whether or not your settings match that. But, from my experience, the most likely culprit is that you connected your camera's audio to the Tascam's "CAMERA OUT (LOW)". It's on the left side. Try connecting to the "CAMERA OUT (HIGH)" input on the right side.
I forgot to respond to whether or not you have to record it again. It depends. There is a chance that when you import it into an audio editor, like Audition, you could increase the volume, and you'd be set. After doing that and you only encounter his or background noise, you can use a denoiser to clear the audio up. You might have to finagle it a bit, and there are some techniques of covering up audio mistakes like using music or lowering the volume during the portions that aren't important while maintaining a separate track of background sounds that fit the scene. If it's more troublesome than that, I'd either rerecord or take it as a learning opportunity to watch some tutorials and learn about the tools your preferred audio editor has to offer. Of course, that's on the assumption you have access to more powerful stuff than Audacity. I don't know if you're just starting to use this device, but I'd really suggest taking a day to play around with it. If you have multiple microphones, use each each one, make several recordings each changing the settings on your recorder significantly and see what the finished product is. Even if you only have one microphone, do several recordings in each input doing the same thing. Alter the gain, low/mids/highs, see how different plugging it into the low input is compared to the high input. Go into the settings through the menus as well, and mess with those, because there's a ton. Hell, use an XLR to TRS adapter and see if that messes with the sound. Use your worst microphone, and see if you can make it sound good! Really get crazy with it. I promise, a single session like that will be impossibly worth it. When starting out, recording good audio is such an unexpected hurdle compared to getting good footage. Even if you have good equipment! Sorry for rambling. I hope this helps! @@sigma.analysis I'm glad it worked out! But, by no means, am I an expert. An amateur AT BEST! I just went through the exact same situation. I was hoping to make the learning process a bit less frustrating as mine was. I wish I was as willing as you to ask for help back then, instead of stubbornly stumbling through on my home in a misdirected attempt at self sufficiency. At least it made me confident in my ability to troubleshoot. Lord knows the most common response online for a beginner facing an audio problem is "it could be a thousand things" and "it depends". But if you know your equipment, finding answers online becomes MUCH easier. Mind if I ask what your solution ended up being for increasing the volume, and did you find out the initial issue? I'm about to teach some high school students video production using the DR-60DMKII. It could be helpful hearing what issues you've run into.
How do you add effects onto the image in the media pool so I don't have to constantly change the effect stats. So how do I save effects on to images basically?
Remove the background music when the vocals are playing man.... Common sense.... It is a video related to audio so this the first thing you should focus on....
