I have this on order with you guys, looking forward to having it fitted and making use of it. As you say, it's the untethered, clean look with all the smart features and pen fault detection at that price which made it perfect for me
We think it's a great offering. You can get cheaper products, but as I say in the video once you go beyond the really basic budget options then you're in this price range anyway (£500 upwards with grant). With that in mind, I think it's hard to beat the Sync EV especially if you want untethered etc. Thanks for watching (and for the order!) Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
I’ve recently had the Sync EV installed and am very happy with its features and sleekness and the professionalism of the installation. The App is absolutely usable and practical and like most software will no doubt have face lifts and improvements made over time. Just awaiting my car deliver now. I wonder if the next App update might have a dim function based on time of day. The ring light is useful for conveying status information but can be very bright at night.
A lot of it is making things a lot easier to see and use, but there are some features on the way that could make the Sync EV a viable alternative to the Ohme i.e. will work with time of use tariffs like Octopus Agile.
Hi Chris, glad it was helpful and thanks for staying subscribed! We are all good here - just hard at work behind the scenes on some other video-related projects. Normal service should resume soon! Thanks for watching, Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
I have had the SYNCEV fitted by Smart Home Charge and very pleased with it and the electricians that did a really neat job. I just have to wait for my EV car to be delivered in the next few months. There is no information on the vid for using the RFID card that came with the charger, has the improved App dispensed with the need for the RFID card?
Hi there - you shouldn't need to use the RFID card to use the Sync EV. Only if the Sync EV is set to “Authentication Required” within the smart application will you need to use the supplied RFID card to act as your method of authorisation in this instance. If you unselect this authentication option then you should avoid the need for the RFID. Hope that helps. Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
We had a SyncEV fitted a couple of months ago and I'm really not impressed with the app/service. The unit is controlled entirely from the app so relies on software, connection to your phone and connection to the SyncEV servers. Scheduled charging doesn't work. It will start/stop at the designated times but will then randomly start charging again outside of scheduled hours. You have to physically unplug the car to make it stop. Like pretty much every EV owner we're on a variable tariff so charging outside of the set hours actually costs us money. Support has started looking into this and says it's because the unit intermittently loses WiFi connection - fair enough. It seems as though the unit isn't able to store settings, record time etc. Additionally it can't seem to recover from temporary lost connection and continues to charge even when reconnected. SyncEVs software team really needs to pull their finger out. If it's not resolved soon we will have to get a different charger installed. I would really not recommend this device at the moment and I think people should be aware of these issues before buying - particularly as they may end up paying more in the long run.
Great review. I’m looking at getting a new EV next March 2022, and would be keen on the SYNC EV. How much notice do I need when ordering with you guys? Thanks
Hi Matt, thanks! As long as your EV is on order, we advise getting in touch with us as soon as possible especially if you want to take advantage of the Government OZEV EVHS grant. The lead time for an installation date is typically 2-3 weeks after payment - this allows time to complete the remote site survey, quoting process, charge point ordering/dispatch, grant application and installation of course. Thanks for watching. Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
Not yet, I'm afraid. Sync EV have just released the white version of the current untethered unit but no word on tethered option. Global shortage of semiconductors likely impacting all charger manufacturers, so could delay new launches too. Thanks for watching. Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
Hi Michael, it has been updated. There have been some user friendly updated to the navigation in the app, as well as some additional features around charging schedules giving you a bit more control. The light brightness can now be controlled in the app too.
Hi John - it's not something I tested as I always unplug the cable safely, but if it's anything like my EO Mini Pro then the answer is no. I believe this is the case with any untethered unit to be honest and very likely intentional so the cable can be quickly removed if required. I can't say nobody will ever unplug the cable, but it's never been something I've experienced and I've not heard of this happening either. Very unlikely, but if it concerns you you'd be better off with a tethered unit that has a remote lock function like the Wallbox Pulsar Plus. You can see further details and my review here: www.smarthomecharge.co.uk/chargers/wallbox/pulsar/ Thanks for watching, Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
@@SmartHomeCharge Hi Danny thanks for your reply I know we don't live in an ideal world , and people are stealing catalytic converters off cars now. This got me thinking about when we have a lot more EV cars and more people are charging them over night on cheap tariffs , will these people start to think hmm look at all these cables lying around just ripe to be nicked? I do like the look of this one as its small and unobtrusive but the lack of locking facility makes me nervous long term.
@@johnnym1215 It is something I am keeping an ear out for, but it could be one of those issues that doesn't really manifest. The value of these items may well decrease the more popular EVs become.
It’s a worthy consideration for anyone with this charge socket adjacent to a high pedestrian traffic area and having theft security concerns. With scrap copper at £4000 per tonne there might be some unsavoury types looking at the cables as potential pay days. The fact they can be removed from the socket while power is flowing means from my understanding that the car end safety clip is also released. Meaning the cable could be removed without the correct authorisation!
Hi Ben. The app is regularly updated by Sync EV, but these can be smaller changes. We're not aware of any big updates in the works, but that doesn't mean Sync EV isn't working on something. I know they are always open to feedback and new ideas, so it is worth speaking to them. Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
Electric center gatwick sell the Sync EV chargers for a lot less and delivery is within a couple of days Chargers are great though. Look smart and the app is easy to use!
Thanks Bradley - their prices don't include installation, though, do they? Our prices include a domestic installation. Danny - editor at Smart Home Charge
