We connect our clock circuit to a 74LS163 synchronous binary counter and see how to count, reset and load values into the counter.

If I wanted to make the binary counter/display count from 1 to 6 and start back over at 1, how would I do that? And which logic gates do I need in order to do that?
@ReclaimerStudios
@ReclaimerStudios Год назад
Take the binary value of 6 (1010), take a not gate for the off states when it reaches 6, put all those into an AND gate, and the output of that AND gate to the base of a transistor with collector at the reset pin connected to ground. Also have a resistor of around 10k from vcc to reset so that it doesn’t reset randomly.

Just to add brother, I buy lots of extra logic chips in case I find someone who has a passion for them like me. If you're in North America I'll send you a mix of ic and such. I'll never use them all. It would be a pleasure to find someone to take me up on the offer because people think generosity comes with strings attached. I bought hundreds of dollars worth of arduino stuff last year and asked schools, placed ads, asked youtubers I know. Everything I bought just sits in storage. I even offered to send them to a youtuber from India where I'm sure he knows people but nope.

I only have so much space, but thank you for the offer! Maybe there's someone on reddit.com/r/beneater that would be interested.

Joey. Ill take a few. I love those old logic ic's. Im building a frequency counter right now. Its uses old ics and no micro.

@@robertknott260 I've since donated over 1000 logic ic alone to a youth stem program. Of all the thousands of dollars of stuff I gave. I only regret the logic ics and wish I had kept a few more rolls of wire haha. I saved up for over a year for the donation. I'm not boasting as I'm not rich. I'm on a rubber pension but thankfully I had a great job haha

@@jstro-hobbytech Thanks sir. Im glad that stuff got put to good use and maybe somebody will use it to learn about electronics. Have a good day sir.

I actually just bought the LED display for one of my design labs, does the display have to be a certain direction for it to work or does it work either way you put it on the breadboard as long as you wire it correctly?
@IanWard1
@IanWard1 Год назад
If it doesn't work flip it around. LEDs only work one way

Where do you get those cool little blue caps. I also got the 2004 working earlier. This is one of the only ttl ic I do not own. I have it ordered. I have thousands of logic ic

These caps were part of a collection of parts given to me by an engineer specializing in analog electronics, so I'm afraid I don't know. They're actually not the right ones for my 555 circuit so I should replace them.

Hi , looking into making this myself it looks super cool , i got a question tho,while looking for the 74ls163 i couldn’t find it on its own , its always SN74ls163an ,just wondering if it makes a difference

Sounds like the right thing, IIUC the letters at the end are about the type of packaging and the ones at the beginning might be manufacturer?
