In Lecture 7, Dr. Petrusek sheds light on the shadow side of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” as he explains how all the widely disparate strands of progressivism/wokeism find a tenuous but politically potent unity in the concept of “intersectionality.”
In this lecture series, Dr. Matthew Petrusek discusses contemporary progressive ideology, also frequently referred to as “wokeism,” and the response of the Catholic social thought tradition.

Inevitablely these ideologies collapse in on themselves, just as is so perfectly explained here. Thank you, WoF. Pray for us St. Patrick. Pray for us St. Joseph. Pray for us Our Lady of the Rosary. God bless us.

Witch-testing. 7:03 We just wished it faded into the annals of history. Basically, according to this lecture, progressivism ends in warfare.

As will any ideology which attempts to bypass objective truths of various kinds on a large scale. Chaos is the inevitable result when all laws and boundaries are taken away. Lack of order leaves us with only will to power and violence to settle our differences. Nietzsche knew this and embraced it.

Relying on the lived experience of select representatives of each oppressed group, “my truth,” to come up with their values and a new morality, inevitably results in multiple obvious lies and insane policies. Since there’s no reasoning or rational argument with these people (heads they win, tails you lose, in their view) the only way to defeat them in their presence is to mock them and point out the insane results of their philosophy. Boys can become girls, boys in girls locker rooms, men competing against women in sports competitions, men self-assigning themselves to women’s prisons, young women adopting the promiscuous sexuality of the worst of men, women having a single baby after reaching 30, young men neutered with no ambition, riots in 26+ cities, police hated & defunded, wide open borders. By their fruits ye shall know them.

Put in simpler terms: “For although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give Him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened. While claiming to be wise, they became fools…Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. Their females exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper.” ―Romans 1

The idolatry of identity applies equally to the right as to the left and as far as violence goes the right has already gotten there. All politics has its dark side. The trick is to be able to identify the shadow side and avoid it. I personally try to practice nonviolence as taught by Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Jesus. I believe there is no such thing as a just war. I consider myself progressive on the political scale but not the way defined in this series. And all politics is about power, the capacity to achieve a goal. All life could be defined as power. The power to love God or to reject God.

Yes, yes, yes--the Right has violence too. But do you really think that that isn't labored on enough in the mainstream society. Blacks are 7 times more likely to assault Whites than vice versa. Two New Jersey state council members were assassinated last week. So stop with the false equivalency. That said, a conservative untethered from the Christian moral compass IS a legitimate concern that needs to be discussed. All in due time. First things first, let us tackle the main devils in our society in their appropriate order of danger.

Hahahahah, I am stunned at the comment threads for this series. Are all the viewers old Boomers? Do you NOT understand what they say about you is orders of magnitude worse. The good professor has said nothing sinful and therefore has nothing to apologize for. Wake up.

Haha, I’m a millennial in doctoral studies! But some have noted my “old soul”. I never stated that his words were sinful or that he should apologize for anything. Did you not just read that I appreciated the series? At times the delivery (passion? Fervor?) likens that seen on far right or far left journalism that, to me, is distasteful and uncharacteristic of what I usually see on Word on Fire. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbLR4pUCW1Q.html

I look forward to seeing the rest of the videos and to hear something about a positive and contructive approach because this has really been lacking so far. I understand that it is difficult to provide a completely thorough exploration of these complex topics in a short amount of time and I appreciate the attempt. However overall I am sad to say I disappointed by this series so far. Sometimes it seems we have to just accept the lecturer's word that an overall ideology exists - It would be great to see more evidence for this if possible. I am not convinced that most of the people you are talking about really reject objective truth even if they claim to. Some of the arguments seem very simplistic based on a very limited use of evidence (e.g. a seeming misinterpretation of debates on 'colourblindness', quoting Sartre's Forward to Fanon rather than really engaging with Fanon). The use of ridicule at times comes across as cruel (as well as inaccurate and limited - gay or trans people do not all explain their lives in terms of radical self-determination or centre identity as their main driving force - the whole 'born this way' argument was very different from this. You can still disagree but your arguments would have to be different and more sophisticated). Ultimately the series might have benefited from a historical dimension where we can trace how real negative experiences encouraged inaccurate but understandable responses. Consider Nationalists in Northern Ireland who distrusted the RUC (former police force) because of several serious examples of bias and violence against civilians. Their claims did not actually mean that every RUC officer was biased but in practical terms it made sense to form a new police force, the PSNI, that had greater public trust. If we don't understand how people are attracted to these ideas and engage with them what is the point? Just to preach to the converted?

You seem upset and ungrateful. The Right has been sorely lacking for decades in diving into the heady intellectual undercurrents of our society. This is a fine start as it equips the laity with a greater grasp of the cancer that is engulfing our wider society. From there, you can study more specifics. Also, "born this way" is just rationalization and, accordingly, an extension of the self-definition principle attendant in the ideologies mentioned throughout this video series. God speed.

@@justinfoard3322 Thanks for the reply. Saying I sound ungrateful may be fair, I say in a comment on the last video in the series that it is very difficult to put together a series of short lectures like this, and I should have emphasised that I appreciate the effort. I hope i am not angry but I have to admit I am a little frustrated as I think this was a good opportunity squandered. I note that you have said elsewhere that this is about History of Ideas and not Sociology and I think you are right to emphasise the difference in disciplines and I agree that a deep exploration of the intellectual undercurrents of society is a valient endeavour (I found Bishop Barron's lecture/videos on the philosophies shaping the present valuable). I don't however think this series really provides a very good introduction to these ideas, or it only does so to a much more limited extent than it might have done. To draw on my comment above, I don't for example think all 'born this way; arguments are about self-definition (though some are) and I think recognising complexity and engaging with those who legimately struggle with desires or tendencies they cannot help has enriched both Catholic thought and pastoral care without challenging the ethical foundations. Only presenting the most extreme opposing view does not seem very sophisticated to me? My major disappointment with the series though was that it was also to tell us 'The Catholic Response' and I had hoped it would present this as a real positive alternative. I am very much on board with what he was saying about the dignity of the human person and the dangers of placing group identity at the centre of things. I don't think the series did a good job in presenting the great value of this alternative which was a shame as it probably would have been more welcome to those who are unsure. Perhaps I unfairly expected too much. I would like to make one more point though. I don't think the Catholic alternative or Catholic Social Teaching can be classified as 'Right' as you seem to suggest. Some ideas on the Right surely also prioritise group identity in problematic ways especially when it comes to the Nation? Surely Catholic Social Teaching must be something different and more challenging and satisfying because of this? Thanks again
