Nigel Mullaney is working composer and DiN Records artist. He's had the Korg Sigma since 1982 (it was first released in 1979), apparently it was used on the Dirty Harry soundtrack.
The Korg Sigma is mono synth with 2 tune-able synth sections, aftertouch and a joystick controlled filter. Whats not to like?

I think one of my favorite things about synths is that no matter what year a model was made, they always sound like they're from the goddamn future.

I think the price of vintage Korg Sigmas just went through the roof, lol. That synth came out the year I was born. It sounds amazing too.

Also reminds of some Vangelis tracks. Beautiful engineering. People where really dedicated to produce a decent sounding synth. Not saying there aren't descent synths nowadays.

He made a good point of really knowing and learning the same synth inside out for almost forty years. Having said that, Din records (if I heard right) are a bit set in their ways imho

I had one of these for a while and ended up ebaying it for $500, the bass sound at the beginning of Michael Jackson - Don't stop til you get enough is the bass preset on this korg sigma i sware. If you have a sigma try it out!

I have no idea... Behringer has proven there's a lot of enthusiasm for affordable recreations of vintage synths, so it seems crazy that Korg and Roland aren't taking advantage of the opportunity themselves.

I remember these from years back. They're tricky to set up (or the ones i used were..maybe they needed some tlc), but have a really unique sound. Rick wakeman & keith emerson used them. Didn't know about the dirty harry connection. It must have been on the Sudden Impact and Dead Pool soundtracks.

I like the guy , love his enthusiasm, and am a huge fan of korg and didn’t think I’d ever say this about any analogue electronic instrument from them......but I really didn’t like this sound! Maybe is due to different influences but psychedelic/ sc-fi soundtracks are just not my thing. Didn’t this had any presence compared to slightly later Korgs or even contemporary string machines from crumar or Roland etc.

ive got one of these - but i dont think ive turned it on for a good year now - I've got the 800dv and 700s which I use loads - the sigma is not a classic like those ones - it is very hard to shape a sound on these - its so preset like - just layering sounds does not make a good sound at all - I think theres one sound I like on it which is a thin square wave which does a nice tangerine dream like pattern but its mmmm not my fave however I do keep because I do like the look of it.
