Made a synthwave track from scratch on my lunch break using Korg Gadget 2 on my iPad Pro 2020 12.9 model, with the NanoKey Studio controller. This is a great portable and versatile setup. Hope you enjoy the track!

What a brilliant piece of cake! I own Gadget but I don’t have the Arp, Milipitas or the quintessential M1... Now I understand why I don’t go further than my 8 bar loops... anyway your channel helps me to stay inspired :)

Thank you friend! I really like M1 and the other standalone ones that became gadgets. I bought every gadget I have on sale, would recommend keeping an eye out for 50 percent off deals, they happen a lot

Dylan Paris Yes, I know it and I also have quite a few of them too. However, when I hear the Arp or the M1 I think I need them too hahaha... One question: which one of the IAP synths would you recommend to recreate the synthwave stuff? I mean, I could buy one or maybe two gadgets more when they’re on sale but not all of them at once off course... Thank you in advance for your advice! Let’s keep making music :)

That's a good question! Honestly you can probably use Dublin, Phoenix, Recife, and Chiangmai, which I thiiiink are all included in base Gadget, and make awesome synthwave. I would say Montpellier and Lexington would be the two big extra ones for the genre.

Dylan Paris Ok, I see it! I use those already and most of the times I reach good results. What I also do is importing sounds from the 80s into Bilbao (drums, percussion and some melodic hits). However I’ve seen that the Lexington or the Montpellier have more solid sounds; that’s why. Thank you again for your insights!

Really nice... Korg Gadget with the iPad mini 4 is fast becoming my choice for creating music. Maybe one day you can put together a album using only Korg gadget and sale it via iTunes I would purchase it. Keep up the motivating song creating.

Fantastic stuff as always...got a question ❓.... Did you have to update anything on the nano key studio as far as drivers ?. Or does it work out of the box with everything pre-mapped.... I just bought the new iPad mini 6, and also purchased Korg gadget 2... And I'm trying to decide between the nano key studio or the arturia mini lab MK2. Thank you in advance.

when i got it i had to update it via their website. if i was picking a mini keyboard today i'd choose the novation launchkey mini mk3, it's my current favorite small keyboard.

@@DylanParisMusic .. I literally just came back from guitar Center here in Dallas and bought the Akai mpk mini mk3, and the apple usb-c adapter. I chose the Akai because there's really no drivers to download. I used it in the past on Windows with vsts. But now I have the iPad mini 6 with a handful of beat making apps.

APK always looked cool! Should be a good plug and play experience and guitar center is usually cool about returns within a window

@@DylanParisMusic yup.... I just tested it out on korg gadget, and being that the Akai has velocity sensitive keys... When I went to play notes specifically synth the velocities were all over the place. I had to manually go in and edit all of the velocities to be the same which is a real pain in the ass. I like to be able to play notes at the exact same velocity unless I dictate otherwise. Not sure how to fix this. But then I opened up nano studio 2 and had no problems with playing notes at the same velocity. Do you know of a way to have fixed velocity within gadget 2 ??....thanks again.

Hello Dylan, do you suggest buying Montpellier/Monopoly while it is discounted, or I am better off with the standard Gadget devices? ($15 is still quite pricey for my region so I’d get it if it’s really another level from other gadgets)

I’d listen to some samples of it and see if it fits the sonic palette you’re looking for. I don’t personally use it a ton, Module Pro is way more worth the money to me than Monopoly

I just got an iPad Pro and never made music before but want to get into it. Is the korg gadget 2 a good way to start out? Great vid !

Hey Tyler! If you’re totally new, I’d say download GarageBand first because it’s free and very powerful and beginner friendly. I started with FL Studio on pc before discovering Ableton, which uses a clip based workflow similar to Gadget. I really like that workflow but it’s a little strange to wrap your head around at first. There is actually a nice clip mode in GarageBand now too.

Gadget, Module Pro for sure. The old synth emulations are awesome. If you do more rock oriented stuff Madrid has nice basses, and Bilbao is awesome for drum samples. I have a hard time remembering what isn't in base Gadget cause I bought a lot of the IAPs a long time ago.
