Not a damn thing worth having in Syracuse ! I retired and left New York State 1 Month later. 6 months of winter followed by 6 months of cold weather. Oh, did I forget to mention no gun rights.
I beg to differ with you buddy. You must have grown up here because most of the locals here do not appreciate or respect the city. Im not originally from here but have live here for 10 years and the only people I connect with and get a long with are people that are originally from here.
Go ahead we don't miss you one bit. You shouldn't have the right to a gun because gun ownership is NOT a constitutional right. The 2nd Amendment actually refers to the State's right to respond in emergencies you nit. It gives the state the power to put down a riot or call in the national gaurd when their is a natural disaster. it was never designed for individual guns you nit.
Winter is a big part of Syracuse as we usually get a lot of snow. I suggest you explore winter activities besides the ice skating in the city. We have nearby skiing areas, snowmobile trails, sledding, as well as a Winterfest every year. Our ability to clear the roads of snow and ice enable us to continue our daily lives and business despite the snowfall. Also... we have hockey leagues. In the Spring there is a local and of course college/high school crew races. Our proximity to the Finger Lakes affords boating as well as shoreline dining and vineyard touring. Our proximity to the Great Lakes (Lake Ontario) and the Seneca River allows some great Salmon fishing and the proximity to an international port and boat launches for sailing from Lake Ontario to the Great Lawrence Seaway down through the other waterways. Our affordable housing places Syracuse and Onondaga Count as a perfect location for daily and weekend trips. The Great New York State Fair is hosted every year in Syracuse at the end of August and signals the end of summer.
I grew up in Syracuse and honestly one of it's biggest issues is some of the very vocal older crowd. I have personally had the ability to travel a bit and have been to quite a few different states. I think some people that live in Syracuse haven't really spent much time anywhere else so they focus solely on negative aspects of the area. When I travel I often see the pros and cons of Syracuse pretty plainly. Some of the positives are that it's easy to get around, you can live in a safe suburb and get downtown in 15 mins, has a cost of living less than 75% of New York state, average house price is just 127k, it's getting a multi- billion dollar chip manufacturing facility that will bring 50k jobs in the next 20 years, is getting a state of the art 75-100 million dollar aquarium, home to SU university, home to 5th largest mall in the US, and has urban, suburban, and rural living options all very close together. Syracuse has given me the opportunity to live like the upper middle class on a lower middle class income. That's hard to beat. Yes the weather is bad, yes some of the community is intolerable on both the left and the right, yes certain parts of the city look pretty atrocious, and yes it's biggest negative is crime which is in the top 10% in the country. I would consider this Syracuse's biggest downside. However, I'm saying that I have not felt uncomfortable enough to want to move. With that said If you avoid very obviously bad areas (I can't because of my job) you can live relatively blind to the crime around you. Crime in Syracuse is very localized.
Jesus, what’s with all the Syracuse hate? I honestly don’t understand it. It’s by far the safest of the three biggest upstate NY cities, and it’s a beautiful city with not too many bad areas. I’m in Rochester, the most dangerous and ghetto city in the whole state. I plan to move to Syracuse to get away from all the violence and bullshit in Rochester.
I'm from Syracuse, and I went to UB, so I've also lived in Buffalo. The three cities of Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo are literally identical when it comes to crime. I live in Philly now and can tell you that if you're not from "the hood" and don't live directly in it, then you have nothing to worry about. I always found it strange when people cite crime as a reason to move away from a place because, realistically, most people are completely unaffected by it
@@XevenYT143 LOL, I understand. One year we had a blizzard on Mother's Day. Soon the crazy cold weather will stop and we will be full on summer. But we will never not have green grass and cold water from the tap in the am, and probably no hurricanes, guaranteed no tornadoes, major wildfires, nor earthquakes.
@@tysonbrown Because we don't want people fleeing areas that suffer from hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, mudslides, droughts and other natural disasters moving in and pricing us out.
Dear tour guide thank you so much once again for your so interesting tours specially this one that is so close to Canada and within driving distance. There are so many nearby places in the USA the doors so pretty and so interesting to visit. I will explore possibilities in the near future once again thank you so much. 🙏🙏🙏🍀🍀🍀🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah 3 comments. 2 you are wrong with your facts. 1 Syr Intl Airport where weather stats are recorded has 127 inches of snow. Where did you get 104 from? it's never been that low. Lowest I know back in 70s was 111 inches. Next we are in CNY not WNY. WNY doesn't start to after Finger lakes going toward Roc. reason why Gr8 NY State Fair is in Syr. Syr is 20 miles from the geographic center of NY State. I would throw in the best scenery in any area east of Rockies. Rivers lakes forests mountains of over 2,000 ft dot areas south of Syr.. And you didn't include winter like snow parks for tubing, and ski areas in almost every direction from Syr. Some of the friendliest and down to home genuine people that exist too. I just moved to Mass after 20 yrs and miss it alot. Oh and you can't forget lights on lake starts next week.
Lake Onondaga is one of the most polluted Lakes in the country. It has high levels of Mercury and sewage. Swimming has been banned since 1940. Happy fishing!
NY to Canada well that sounds like a plan. So I will suggest to my nephew and son to visit the dome and take pictures. Museum of science and technology earth science sounds like a winner.
I was actually born In Syracuse and i grew up in the Eastern Part of Syracuse and I will say that I did have a good childhood in Syracuse. And I'll always be proud to be from Syracuse and New York
It's a good video. But Syracuse is in central NY not western. And Onondaga lake is not safe to fish in if you want to eat the fish. It's contaminated and is not safe to swim in or fish. Other than these couple things I mentioned I enjoyed the video.
Dermal contact with lake water is now okay (except for certain areas at certain times because there are sewer overflows in extreme wet weather, which is true of virtually every metro east of the Mississippi). I think adult males can eat some fish like once a year. So....yeah, probably better just to not eat the fish. But that's just one lake (and its tributaries). Paradoxically, Central NY also has some of the cleanest lakes. Syracuse gets its domestic water completely from Skaneateles Lake. The water is gravity fed - no pumps needed - and requires only filtering of particulates. No chemical or UV treatment required to have safe drinking water. This is an amazing feat considering the amount of farms (and manicured lawns) in the Skaneateles watershed. Overfertilization, dog poop, sanitary sewer overflows, and general garbage are the main concerns for Onondaga nowadays since the cap was completed. The cleanup was fairly successful and water quality is lightyears from what it was. They walled off groundwater from entering the southeastern shoreline; they rehab'd and remediated the impacted streams; they dredged the most contaminated sediment off the bottom., then they capped the remaining contaminated sediment with millions of yards of sand and gravel. Now it's mostly just monitor until we all die. That's the only downside, but it's true of all contaminated areas: monitoring must continue basically forever.
I was stationed in Syracuse in 2021, heard not so great things about Syracuse from others but stayed optimistic. That city has to be one of the worst cities I have ever had to stay for a 7 month detail. I hate to say the word “disgusting” but sadly that is the best term to use. New York City per capitalization wasn’t even that bad & as of July 2022 almost 4500 citizens are moving out of the state of New York. Horrific
Do you just come on RU-vid to shit on Syracuse? Move already if you hate it so bad or you can’t afford to because you haven’t done anything with your life?
most shocked moment for me was that my brother killed in syracuse newyork by robbers and i am in afghanistan and my brother always tell me plz come to newyork with me plz come with me afghanistan is not secure and look what happened
I am so sorry about your loss. I love living here but you have to consider... everywhere there are areas of high risk. When you are not familiar with a place, you do not know that you need to be cautious. I will say prayers for you, your brother, and your family. I cannot speak for all Americans but I personally appreciate the Afghanistan people's spirit and yearning for self determination and your assistance with our military. My son was in the Navy but not in your country and I would just love to thank all those that helped his crew in the waters and shores of Arabia.
I might be moving from Phoenix to Syracuse in a couple months, my one question- Is Planet Fitness 24 hours there? In Arizona they all close at 10pm -_-
I grew up in Syracuse and I used to live in Syracuse and the only thing I don't like about Syracuse not fixing broken homes and makes new homes for people who have low income and crimes and I live in Syracuse for 23 years and I saw inside the Destiny's USA mall so many times and I'll might move back to Syracuse
Beaver lake is also highly underrated, really surprised with all the negative bits. No place is perfect, except the MOST! Great job with your list, I think of most people actually went to visit these locations they could understand how this city works.
Can't believe this place got suggested. People in Syracuse are always so moody. And there's a lot of creeps and gang activity.. It's got cool places to visit but it's not worth risking your life over.
I’m quite confused 😕, you claim Syracuse sucks in another video, and for pretty darn good reasons, so how is it now a great place to live? I’ve been there, and it is pretty rundown and desolate, so I’m leaning a bit more towards the fact that it’s not such a great place to live.
@@601TRAVELS That’s not what I meant at all. It looks like an incredible place to live, but that’s based on neighbourhoods, restaurants, and local type things like markets and festivals.
“You can’t beat the location as it’s within 350 miles of every major city” lol did you even listen to yourself say that when you said it Syracuse is a dumpster fire in the middle of a frozen hellscape
21 years in Syracuse thank because...talk its 1 of the best. People shootings everywhere I'm talking about Syracuse... 5 shooting in 7 days never before
You have to leave your home. There is so much to do. In the warmer months we have festivals just about every week, parks to hike or bike trails, fishing, hunting, kickball league, volleyball...or go to live music shows and amazing gallery openings as well as open air concerts. In the colder times there are clubs to go to-- gaming, darts, pool, as well as winter sports (skating, skiing, snowmobiling). Join a vineyard tour, take some time to explore all the parks, all the new restaurants, the free entertainment as well as the private fee based entertainment (Ren Faire, Shakespeare in the Park). We have a Jazz Fest, a Blues Fest, ethnic festivals with great food and entertainment, Broadway in Syracuse, a robust library system, Library and Uni lectures, Lakefront concerts, sports (even a farm team plays every week). I suspect you lack motivation. Try light therapy for the SADD.
