It always breaks my heart when you do the health/physical evalulations on the hamsters and injuries end up being found 😢 it really is so sad. Thank you for investing so much energy and time into helping these little creatures who cannot help themselves.

I just rescued a female Syrian from a simular situation. Her wheel the size of my hand and walking/climbing on on metal bars. She has bad feet/hands too and struggles to hold food now, sores on the sides of her face from excessive bar chewing and appeared to have some back issues. She's now doing much better after only a week and her health is slowly improving. Her sores are healing nicely and am hoping with time her other issues imrpove. She loves having a wheel she can actually use. Just is so awful to know these things are preventable with the propper care.

This poor hamster, I don't understand how people won't look up info on how to care for a living creature . We have endless knowledge right now. It takes like less than an hour to learn the most basic hamster care. I will always advocate for all people to have to take a test on animal care before being allowed to have an animal.

It's so sad that even with the information readily available, pets still have to live in conditions that are bad for them. The taller cage would be too small as a permanent enclosure for rats. It would be okay as a temporary setup during introduction with the main pack. You definitely had to put something on the metal bars because rats also at risk to get bumblefoot, especially when they're older and chonkier. And even for rats, I'd put hammocks and extra platforms in to prevent falls. For a hamster, it just seems like an accident waiting to happen. 😢 Poor little girl, she must have been through so much pain because of this horrible cage! And it doesn't seem to get any better with the Robos...

Id have to recheck the surrender form but in total we were supposed to have 4 hamster surrenders.

I know those aquarium rocks their made of granite sand moulded together.. wouldn't use for hamsters as it does crumble and don't think ingesting rock particles is healthy

Infuriates me just as much at the same time for f****** people that can't care for an animal don't not have animals if you can't care for them or if you're just a monster who intentionally abuses them I'm a godly person so it takes everything in me to not wish the harm that people inflict on innocent animals that they are lucky and privileged to have the care of to inflict harm on them themselves omggggg I would have named that sweet baby princess warrior because she's a frickin warrior and survivor ❤

That cage would not even be suitable for rats. The wire floor isn't good for ANY rodents. It can cause so many health issues.

Critter nations are what I'd recommend for rats, but I said rat cage since that's what the thing is marketed as. Tho this would be a travel or temp or holding cage for juvies if padded correctly. Tho I prefer the prevue cage since the pan depth is deep enough for appropriate bedding.

That's my guess that its a scab from brushing up against the wire for idk how long. I should have asked them how often they are interacted with, to see when the last time they took her out. But they ended up arriving early to our meetup when I was with an adopter. So It was cut short.

Poor hams...You know I WOULD give SOME credit to petco/petsmart, if they recommended these cages as temporary cages, and explained to the customer that they need larger enclosures providing other websites to buy them from. Obviously if they could get rid of those crap cages entirely, that would be even better, but I'm assuming they have some sort of deal or contract with these cage companies...You can call the syrian ham....Pinky

Petco has a deal with kaytee to sell them in store and online, but petsmart has gotten rid of kaytee as a whole and in favor of selling their own products, to cut out the middle man from their overall small animal profits. I just wish Petco would have the balls to cut them out, but they end up making profit because of them and because their crap breaks constantly. Ugh.

If people aren't receptive to hearing the proper information on how to care for any species of animal, then they shouldn't be allowed to purchase/adopt the animal.

At one of the petstores I worked at, one of the shit bosses I had, pushed only for pet sales and didn't bother wanting to inform new time owners of their extensive care. He would say it "wasn't our job" and that they should do "the research" after handing them a tiny little care sheet with laughable care suggestions. It really works both ways. Sometimes it's a company thats shit, sometimes its the employees that're shit. And sometimes its the future owner who is shit. It's so hard to tell when there are so many factors at play here, who's to blame. But everyone really should do research, and if they did but the research was misguided, then it's the fault of the company/book/guide for misleading new pet parents.
