Funny how Daron says they are not the best musicians - fair enough, there are better drummers, guitarists and bassists out there - but in all honesty, Serj is right up there with the best vocalists I have ever heard.
@@guitarrwd not saying he isn't good. He is great. Love his drumming. The entire band is great. But while I feel there are better drummers out there, I don't think there many better vocalists than Serj.
15:17 sounds like Serj already wanted out even during the Toxicity era. Daron said they had to beg him to do Mezmerize/Hypnotize, and his statements here seem to line up.
Yup...he had it in his mind even in 2001 that he was checking out in 5 years. Kinda wonder if the rest of the guys were starting to silently question their future as an outfit at the end of this interview. Sobering to think about. Explains why in 2003 serj came off as less passionate during those few shows they played.

I think he lost a bit of real interest when the Mez/Hyp recordings in mid/late 2004 And he lost the rest of the Interest at the end of the recording of Hypnotize, in the middle of 2005, that would explain the difference in live excitement between Astoria and MTV 2$ Bill for example

+Telecaster Magician All musicians have been influenced by multiple genres of music unless they grew up 18 years in a science experiment in the basement. The mature musicians are those that aren't afraid to say what inspired them in the past and aren't afraid to get inspiration from outside the genre they write and play in.

ive been a fan of system of a down for 5 years and this is my first time seeing the band in a interview and its interesting the way they talk so deep but. its no surprise theyre awesome with very deep songs and lyrics
As a fan of this band in my youth/young adulthood...I never knew what ATWA was an acronym for, (could have been initials in someone's name--I remember thinking that)... nor did I know it had anything to do w CM. I'm one of those people who lets the art mean to me what it means to me personally rather than finding out details, "meanings" of songs, etc. It was always one of my favourites on that album because it resonated w me in terms of emotional turmoil and heartbreak.
This band has achieved so much and is so unique that no other band would be able to manage to do what they do it’s just so amazing and different to listen to, love Soad!

F... me I absolutely love these 4 guys here, mate... I don't care if Serj sounds like freaking squidward for the rest of his career at concerts, or even if Shavo can't even play cause he's too high up on the shrooms... just watching them make an interview or do whatever the f... they do, I feel at peace. They knew how to be one of Top-3 or Top-5 Heavy Metal bands in the world at a certain point in time, and I will ever respect and love them just for that. Sorry for the smoothness and for the lengthy comment.
I know nothing about these dudes or punk rock and I thought it was all orgies and hardcore drugs! Turns out these guys are smart and politically aware! They really artist can’t believe I missed out! The Serj dude was ahead of his time.
