The daughter was telling me that the title of this song was originally Suicide, but because of the obvious reasons with that named they changed it. Someone told them to Chop Suicide and come up with something else... Chop Suey it became! 😊❤️

System of a Down has an insanely diverse catalogue. They have a unique sound, and none of their songs sound they same. But they're almost all high energy and fucking tasty. SOAD was my gateway band into the metal world and I am so glad they were. They'll always hold a special place in my heart.

I loved system of a down growing up!! Them, linkin park, Metallica, hoobastank, blink 182, greenday and the list goes on and on...Ahhh, you bringing back memories!! Glad you enjoyed this classic from SOAD! I’ve absolutely loved it since it came out over 20 years ago and I’m not really a big fan of the band (Aerials is also spectacular), but this song right here really changed my taste and perspective on music back in my formative years! It’s just so well balanced (between the heaviness of the verses and the softness of the chorus) and catchy as hell! There is literally NO surprise to me that Chop Suey has over 1 billion listens! Just a great song all around and definitely my favorite song by the band!

For some reason, a lot of people don't realize Daron (the guitar player) layers/harmonizes a lot of SOAD songs with Serj.

Ok now you explained the last missing piece about what I needed in your Toxicity reaction, I fully understand the way you see it now. Great Reaction. Check out their song Aerials (would be better _not_ to do the Music Video to Aerials) Aerials is also from the Toxicity album, such as Toxicity and Chop Suey. Oh and btw the Harmonies are Serj and Daron singing together Daron Malakian is the guitarist and also does many vocals, background vocals and harmonizing with Serj. In Aerials you will also hear them together. Aerials was their album closer

The last time you reacted to SOAD, I said their music is like Indian food. It needs to grow on you as it's so unlike anything you've ever consumed before...but alas! It will grow on you if you keep listening...and you'll eventually love it! Chop Suey is the Chicken Tikka Masala of SOAD. It's the most palatable to the untrained ear. Listen to it a few more times and you'll be ready for their other stuff. In all seriousness, I have to listen to each of their albums a few times before I actually begin to like them. Once that's out of the way, I listen to it nonstop for about six months.

SOAD was a wonderful band full of creative and innovative ideas and their approach to composition. I can hardly find other bands in 2000+ period where you simply cannot predict what will they do in their next song. Before SOAD it was Faith No More (for me) being the leaders of unpredictable. I think its totally legit that you didnt like too much previous song and loved this one. Because SOAD is that sort of a band where they do not expect you to love everything they do. because they do sooo different things its hard to love it all.

I first heard this song in 2002? enjoying a discount afternoon at Wet n Wild Orlando. I believe I bought the single. . . at least I have high quality digital copy on my NAS. THE Rick Beato covered this song in his "Why Is this Song Great" series as well. I'm sure you'll get similar experience revisiting TFK and Red. . . Joined Patreon. Oh yeah, good song.. funny how people request bands not so great songs/hits before you get to their better stuff. Toxicity to me, is not bad but not their greatest by any means. You can never go wrong with this song, as well as "prison song" "sugar" "IEAIAO" "vicinity of obscenity" "spiders" and so on... but solid review 🤙and you're right, a billion people can't be wrong lol

As you know, I always agree with you and your opinion is very interesting and valuable. But I miss an analysis of the lyrics and the background. For instance, they had to choose "chop suey" as title because the producer banned the original title, it was something about suicide, the choose chop suey due to phonetic similarity.

8.6 is LITERALLY a GREAT score. Guess you didn't check down in the comments section at the Scoring System Chart like I suggested you should do if you were confused. 8.6 is literally right in the middle of the great scale. I don't understand why people get so butthurt over their favorite band getting a great score. If my favorite bands got scores in the 8's I'd be thrilled. By the way, "This Guy" has a name, it's the name of the channel.
