Interesting build. I'd never have thought of using BSSJs on every torp, they're pricey. But I'm sure all those stacked BSSJs do a real number on the enemy PD.
I’m glad you found the video informative! I recommend checking out other specific tutorials on things like missiles, there’s no way I could ever hope to cover all the mechanics of this game myself
Torps need at least 2Gs for Terminals to be effective. 1.7G maneuver + Corkscrew doesn't do much in my experience. Although maybe with the BSSJ it's enough, i never use BSSJ with torps and prefer to just use Blankets.
fair enough, that might even be a more economical approach too since BSSJ is 10 points a pop. The reason I like to max out burn duration is for longer range strikes, but that's definitely a viable alternative.
@@d0d0birdiexd78 i usually do 5km range also, but with smaller warhead and 2.4-2.6 G maneuverability. Then make a second variant that's identical but with Decoy launcher, and mix both with the salvo planner
Great tutorial, I'll have to check if you have more. I've been trying this in the simulators and it seems the enemy does not care about my jamming torpedos and just eliminates all of them with their PD
Yes it’s a decent strat and very fun! Be sure to hug asteroids, keep a low profile, and be smart when delegating your targets, focus fire on capital ships and strike with overwhelming force. Happy torping!
Question: Is it possible or optimal to use capital ships as torpedo bombers, ie. Axford, or Solomon? If it is possible, are the tactics similar or different?
I've heard of people using torpedo axfords, solomons not so much, they're really badly suited for them. Ocellos are probably the best capital ship to use torpedoes with. Axfords are especially useful when given a torpedo "backpack" on the rear mount, and using 450s and/or beams on the other two primary mounts.
Due to the high hull cost of the Solomon and the low missile capacity of the axford, they are poorly suited for torpedos. However, I have seen a torpedo battleship *once* which worked well... although not as well as a well played CL group could Really, the best alternative is a missile beam axford. With the c4 mounts full of Size 3 hybrids and the c5 with a beam turret, you can use the hybrids to quickly disable a ship and use the beam to finish off targets when you run out of missiles.
It may be risky (it most certainly is) but I really like using lineships, I've never really tried it with ambush tactics, but with the amount of torps you can throw at the enemy, you can breach even the toughest PD nets.
@@gunnerguy0107 Idk what you mean by railgun PD, there aren’t any railguns that fill a PD role on either faction. For Sarissas, use your shipboard jammers to jam the enemy, the jammers also help scramble FCRs on point defence turrets like the Defender or Sarissa. The torpedo design I showcase also use inbuilt self screening jammers to scramble the enemy PD radars, including the FCR’s of Sarissas. Lastly, using the corkscrew terminal maneuver makes Sarissas vastly less effective, since they can no longer accurately predict where your torpedo will be when they fire.
@@d0d0birdiexd78 ok, what about auroras? since the torpedos are a helluva lot slower than more specialized hybrids, whats stopping them from being halting in thier tracks by a few lasers? (by "railgun PDs" i meant grazers)
@@gunnerguy0107 Ahhhh i understand. Unless you bring a lot of Auroras, the thick hulls of the torpedoes should be able to shrug off the aurora fire, even when set to battleshort. I have had salvos of torpedoes halted in their tracks by players who bring a LOT of auroras, but I’m talking like literally 8-10 of them and by the end they had melted all their barrels. Grazers are actually a lot easier, since they can’t down a torpedo in a single shot and then need time to recharge. In terms of not being stonewalled by Auroras, again jammers help negate their FCR locks. Also, try playing around with torpedo range/maneuver tradeoff, maybe you’d prefer shorter ranged torpedoes but with higher speed and greater maneuverability. Hope that helps!
@@d0d0birdiexd78 it doesn't, because I feel like torpedoes don't do anywhere near as much damage as they advertise. They feel flimsy, and bounce off of anything but the softest of targets, and even then they don't do much
@@gunnerguy0107 Honestly idk what to say to that, since I’ve reliably killed entire formations of ANS and OSP capital ships with them. If you’re not having a good time with torps, but still want some heavier damage gear I’d try out some beam DD’s for ANS and plasma/100mm for OSP, they’re great for cutting apart heavy and light targets alike.
