Seen worse tbh but the ones I've seen didn't make it out alive however. The fact that it's still running and it looks like that it's mostly bearing material that shit the bed might be a good thing
If I remember correctly it is known that these engines from this era, that haven’t run very much are known to self clearance inside the crank case, so they need frequent oil changes 😅
Your usual shell bearings will be made from white metal, over copper and finally the steel backing. If they are through to the copper then that's saying they are completely mullered and way past the point where they need changing. If there's copper actually in the oil, you'll likely be looking at some crank journal problems. You might have a bit of a bill to get the engine back together, but tell yourself that at least you've caught it while it's still fixable.
Translated It seems that this tank was made in the Czech Republic after the war. And no one has serviced it lately. I wish you guys success in the restoration of this tank!
I don't know how you fellas accomplish so much work in such a short time, but I sure do enjoy seeing the progress. (Or as a co-worker of mine says, "I love hard work--I could watch other people do it all day!")
Or better still just sit there and hand the tools to whoever is doing the job all day and be the first to knock off for tea break, lunch, more tea, sampling the biscuits with a little check out the paper followed by some leaning and sitting down. And hopefully, be paid for it.
Props to the lovely lass for just getting stuck in on the shittiest of jobs. 👍👏 And of course all is well because Ted is on site ..... Can I assume the Rio has gone for a walkies somewhere?
Interestingly enough, there are identical features on the PZKW V Panther in the Tank Museum, although it serves no function other than perhaps to meet the objective to copy the T34, without actually understanding it.
I am many years old, but I found out about this solution with a wedge that prevents the finger from jumping, only recently, a truly ingenious solution!👍👌🤔
Another fascinating insight into how you get all the work done, thanks to everyone. I was a bit perturbed when I saw Amy setting down to do the needle gunning but I think I saw her wearing anti-vibration gloves with her ear defenders and safety glasses so you had kitted her out quite well. I hope she had frequent rests during the work, she did a good job! Take care of her, she is a valuable member of the team.
This is the best channel on RU-vid hands down!! Ive watched all your videos and the insight, banter and effort to do things the right way while restoring is great! Y’all are top notch
4:47.., Dont really wanna put my fingers in it!.., the same Jack that stands in an engine bay whilst a 300 tonne engine hangs above him from a length of twine wrapped around the end of a forklift.
Так советские тоже вкладавыли но он сколько простоял там конечно все уже сгнило и пострадало советы тоже молодцы то что создали танк и воевали на нем и молодцы тоже и эти ребята тоже молодцы
I saw one once, water with oil and a lot of metal in the filter, thats bad, killed a great V-2 tank diesel. But there is upside, there are a lot of these engines and you can build one from several, or look for a similarone, even you should have them in country. Watching with interest from Russia. Good luck guys.
On the plus side you can go for a full re bore and new cams and really give that Mofo a power increase may as well get the port's polished whilst your there 🤣🤣🤣💥💥💥💨💨💨💨💨
Are you allowed to tell us what specific paints you use or recommend as I suspect it has good rust protection qualities. Looks like a fun place to work. Dads are good at hoarding good stuff that maybe useful sometime never😅
This is a valid point. Just what was the life expectancy of a Soviet T34 in the meat-grinder that was Great Patriotic War, so how much effort went into designing/building in durability? Much like the RAF's bomber fleet which, even if they survived the flak, night-fighters and accidents, were worn out after 30-40 sorties.
I always look forward to your videos, I know the Foden is your main go to but I would love to see you play with a Scammell pioneer, it's my absolute favourite truck
That glitter is probably just some metal shavings from breaking in the engine ;) New oilfilter and new oil and off she goes. Russian tolerances are what they are ;)
Folks your manual hammering looks a bit medieval. Get yourself an Astro 4980 ("Big Nasty"). Approved by Eric O. from Southmain Auto in the NY rustbelt!
You can laugh, but I still think this Russian tank is beautiful in appearance. 10:25 The T-34 had several types of turrets (total 4). Your turret is late (after 1945). The "nut" is earliest type 1941 tank turret. It really was like a nut - to simplify production (a forced measure in those years). In the tanks of the 1943 issue, there was already another tank turret (no longer a nut). And you already have a late ZIS-S-85 gun (also 85 mm) installed - the gun mask is already different (the previous D-5T gun was also 85 mm.) 18:00 That's right, the engine requires inspection with disassembly unambiguously.
Unfortunately, it's not quite as simple as that. Without getting too technical, some of the engine's critical internal components are damaged- and at the very least need replacement. Additionally, because of this damage, a lot of other components could be wrecked as well. At this point, it may well be cheaper to source a fresh engine, but a teardown of this engine would still be a good idea to see how bad the damage truly is. Still, they've done an amazing job so far- doing so much in so little time. They're a resourceful team, so I'm pretty certain that they'll be back on track soon enough.
