We fit the pack back into the FV432-30 and we were having minor fuel pump issues that we resolved and she's now running and driving lovely. We also had a surprise arrival of a Fox armoured Car.
My ex-father in law worked at a fuel pump reconditioners, watching you attacking that plunger with a Leatherman would give him a conniption fit. Which is good because he's a twat, and his daughter is insane 😀
Would love a video showing how all the team came together. There was an earlier video that mentioned Joe and Jack worked at a tank driving place. It would be cool to know the other connections - I guessing a brother, partner & friends, etc.
Just watched this for the first time. Vrn 10 EA 16... One of the 432s I looked after and drove back in the day was 10 EA 13...this is the closest I've seen to a vehicle I actually drove. Love these vids....so many memories...
Mr. Hewes, your channel rocks! It’s just simply entertaining at all intellectual levels. Every time I view your program, I always learn something new with a big grin plastered on my face from start to finish!! I’d would love to be the wanker to tell you how to improve your channel, but Mr. Hewes, you seem to have monopolized perfection. 😃👍🏻
Don't knock the Fox. It gave sterling service as a recce vehicle. Untrained drivers had a tendency to roll them but careful drivers could push them to the limit. That 30mm Rarden cannon was taking out T55's with APSE and APDS during the 1991 Gulf War.
Re the jammed injector pump seat, I believe it's down to the fuel quality and storage. Due to poor filtering along the way, fuel has several/many grades within it. After being stored for a while, the more volatile stuff evaporates away, leaving the sticky/ tarry stuff behind. If you are often running the machine (even on the junk fuel), you get away with it as it doesn't get chance to stick, but if you leave it long enough the tiny tolerances get jammed with the rubbish.
OK being the non PC old dinosaur that I am can I just say the camera lady, needle gun rust remover, muck cleaner and now driver is an utter babe ..? Compliment intended.
Come on guys, have a little respect here. That could be a girlfriend/wife/sister of one of the team and it is a touch lecherous. What you want to see is not necessarily appropriate - this is a channel for military vehicles, not Onlyfans. Maybe the "babe" behind the camera is not as happy as you are being ogled.
@@TheSussexpillbox Sit down and have a quiet word with yourself dude, go find a sense of humour and stop trying to take offence for someone else. Especially when none was clearly intended. Indeed my comment was very clear on my appreciation of what the lady does around the workshop and behind the camera and I never mentioned 'looks'. But no being the POT (Professional Offence Taker) you are you have to drag in lechery / inappropriateness / OnlyFans / ogling.🤦♂ What a sad little article you are. I bet you are a bundle of laughs at parties. By the way what is this 'OnlyFans'? Asking for a lady friend ...
Bungs, I remember those. First experience nothing happened so we removed the floors. Oh dear two days shovelling and cleaning! First experience in the field and still remembered after 50 years.
Another great video Joe. Good to see Jack assisting Seb at work, easing him closer to the water! You're gaining great knowledge of fuel injection, the engine sounds well, and DIDN'T smoke! 😃 Looking forward to seeing you all on the 5th, my star attractions! 👏👏👍🙂😃
Of all the restorations projects this might be my favorite one. She is an absolute beauty from the poor shape she was in the field in the first clip we saw.
Another cracking vid! Even though I'm still this far back, started at the beginning (I do watch the current ones too) Every one I watch amazes me even more, the fun you lot have, the laughs but more importantly, the knowledge you all have or can assist each other is awesome and really nice to watch and enjoy!
Wow. Total respect to you guys. Job needs going it gets done. Even it the method is not quite ‘owners manual’ and even if the job isn’t even in the owners manual.
Great video, we used the Fox armoured car back in the 80’s three man crew, gunner / commander and driver and had to be trained on all 3. Great days flying round Germany on exercise, they were capable of a good 55 mph on the roads but were never safe cause of being top heavy. The pre select gear box took a bit of getting used to and the 30mm cannon could do 2km down the range, pretty good night sight as well 👍👍
Hallo Mr hewes the steering wheel is just like the wheel on a Alvis Sarican , withe sarican you had to Pump the Cluch at least 5 times in each gear before you start it. Was really fun Driving one while I was in the army in the 70s. Great watching you lot.
Hi guys, You seem to be very well prepared for an attack on your property with all of these army vehicles😀. Whatever I look forward to your next vlog and send you love from The Netherlands
Just recently subbed, and I've watched around 30 videos I used to drive the 432 with a L37 turret a smaller turret than the one you are driving in this video, my only gripe is I've not seen anyone use the most important piece of equipment on a British Armoured vehicle, yes the BV it was a lifesaver out on exercise especially when it got down to minus 20 in Germany, otherwise good videos, for a bunch of civvies.
Hi Mr hewes, are you ex reme as you are well versed in the Knowledge of many military vehicles?? Mitsy of the Midlands. Love what you and the minions muster. 🤩✌
ah bless, i like the ol' Fox's, a tad more practical whizzing down the road, only 4 wheels / tyres to change and not full tracks, we had Continentals on ours and it went rather rapidly down the motorway, great to see people smile in traffic when they saw you trundling along - like the ol Ferrets, great off road both forwards and backwards, ours handled very well at speed across the ploughed fields, steady as a rock, and just like the Ferret the steering wheel is set at a stupid angle rather like a submarine but you didn't tend to take skin off the knuckles like in a Ferret but all a question of taste, yep engines are a pain in but Jag 60s, horrible temperamental from what i remember and that ain't a lot now
Thats what we call it, is the diesel has gelled. Its the paraffin wax issue. Next to the black algae from the biodiesel, gelling is properly the 2nd thing to plug off filters, or injector lines
Diesel bug can be a bitch with modern diesel. A common problem with boats which get treated, sometimes excessively and then sat around for months doing nothing. The treatment needs to be circulated then burned off to work correctly.🙄
the gunner and commanders seats in the fox are in the standing position hence they're on the floor. the pre select gearbox is an interesting set up in the fox but i do love em
Someone locked me inside a Fox over lunch one day, when I was an apprentice at Ruddington. I think they were taken out of use, due to being top heavy and being prone to rolling over, with lethal consequences. Some turrets went on Scorpion hulls. This made a Sabre vehicle, if I recall correctly.
When the fuel changes into a thin film, this causes the seizure of part. The other word for this film is called shellac. After it scraped or whatever words you want to use, it doesn't cause those components to be seized together after it is.
Farm trained mechanic: who needs the right tool when you have a #9 twatting hammer & a Chinese screwdriver. Like all farm mechanics the world over too you know how to fix stuff & get the job done. Alan Millyard look away.
Nerdfo, information for historic diesel nerds; :o) this one way valve is the one you remove to time the engine. At some point before top dead centre the cam in the injector pump will start to lift the injector pump plunger. During its upward stroke the plunger will go past its inlet port. Without the one way valve fitted diesel will flow out of the pump until the inlet port is covered. That is when it would start injecting. If the flow stopping matches the timing marks you are bob on. Everyone used to have a sawn off bit of injection pipe in their tool box so they could see exactly when the flow stopped. (Drips stop) It was called a swan neck.
Thanks Team, being a mechanic I realy enjoy your Chanel. Question, Could you please tell me the Model & Code of the Alison transmission in the FV432? As a mate, has one which needs to come out for a rebuild, due to water contamination. Most likely from the heat exchanger. Thank you in advance for your or anyone else that answers my question.
2:24 Nooooooo, Joe’s sold out and gone commercial, he’s using a sp***er. 2:40 ah that’’s better, he’s using it as a hammer. 3:25 peace and tranquility returns to the farm, he’s stolen a local orphan’s “my first stillsons” to use and then gone all in with the leatherman 👍
FV432-30 Pretty rare beast. I think about 13 FV432’s were converted by slapping a 30mmRarden turret from the Fox (your nemesis😀) and were used by the Berlin Infantry Brigade as fire support vehicle. Quite what 13 were going to achieve against a soviet tank army is the ultimate triumph of optimism over reality🤦♂️
I have no idea how long it takes for you to post these videos but I'm sure I saw that Fox on its trailer in a layby round Northampton way the other day!
Seb getting wet !! Pff5 he didn't even get mildly moist under there lol Thought you was going to attack him with a fire hose or something Exciting 🤣 Though he DID HAVE A BETTER expression on his face than he did on the last video when you dragged the guys up to pick up that engine He DID look like he was going to kill someone lol Poor old boy
Like most others leatherman or gerber, leatherman yes, like the explanation by jack on how to adjust the tillers, will you be doing the fox up and curious to what engine it has, finally just shows anyone can drive the 432, interesting that she preferred the 432 to the chieftain, maybe it’s easier to control being lighter, top job by all keep em coming Mr Hewes
