T-55AD2 command tank
Finally, here it is! After a long renovation to the collection of Museum „Gryf” joins another tank. This time it is fully operational medium tank T-55AD2 tactical number 6628, in a very interesting version - command tank AD2. 4th of May 2016 at the museum’s area we had our first test drive. This version of the tank is slightly different from „ordinary fifty-fives tanks”. The vehicle has two radio sets R-123 (one of them is the M version, the second is Z version), and other additional equipment, which forced reduction in supply of ammunition to 38 rounds. AD2 version was intended for commanders at the battalion / company level.
License of the tank T-55 was purchased by Poland in 1964. Its production took place in Mechanical Works Bumar-Łabędy in Gliwice in place of the earlier produced tanks T-54. In 1968 the production of a new model of the T-55A started and later command tank version T-55AD as well. Production of the tank continued until 1981. Total produced approx. 5,000 vehicles of all versions. The chassis of the T-55 was used to develop the WZT-2 and accompanying bridge BLG-67.
