On a wet and snowy morning why not start things for fun? A leaky, rusty, and daily driven first generation 1990 Mitsubishi Pajero powered by a 4D56 Turbo Diesel starts right up this January morning. The truck hasn't moved in 2 days and the temperature is approximately 34ºF or 1ºC.

@@user-xx5dy7dm7u I use 4d56 nonturbo...now 424.xxx km...still runs fairly good..little bit blowby..still not consumed oil...I hope can hold until 500.++ Before need overhaul

Maybe not the best still slightly below Isuzu c223 or 4ja or Toyota 2L,but it's more easy to repair

I bought Pajero Mk1 with same engine. So much rust but engine work like clockwork. Trying to restore it this year 😀

Nice, I’m currently restoring a 1990 ng 4d56 aswell. Most common problem with the engines is headgasket leaks it seems

their chassis rust fast I have Mk2 2002 with 2.5 Intercooler diesel Which it needs a little bit work , but its worth it Pajero's are Tanks

I have L200 truck with this engine. I noticed you don't have cold start device on your fuel pump. Its simple device that connects to your coolant circuit and paraffin capsule inside moves actuator based on your coolant temperature. If coolant is too cold it advances timing a bit and also increase throttle, so your engine won't struggle so much when cold started. After coolant warms up, it sets timing and throttle to your defaults.

There are different versions of the 4d56 engine the newer one (l200) has alot of new stuff ofcourse and the first gen pajero is literally the start of the 4d56 era
