Actually, I just need to note down the order and make a checklist. Then I get to iron my shirts one by one, by the end of the second hour it gets down to 5 mins from roughly 25 when I started in the beginning.
Dude, I know it's been a while since you uploaded anything, but seriously, for me, this is the most helpful "how-to-iron" video I've seen. That tip about putting pressure on the back of the iron instead of the tip saved me. Thank you.
My Nan said always start with the back (underside) of the collar, not the arms as you have. She said if your iron is too hot, or you've picked up something sticky or burnt on your iron - you've only damaged the underside of the collar and not ruined the whole shirt. No one will ever see marks on the underside of the collar. You can still wear the shirt (unless you are a 70's disco dancer.) I've done as she said and she was right. I've almost ruined a few shirts in my time but instead got away with an unseen stain or mark on the underside of the collar. Thanks Nan!
I have never ironed in my life (because I'm 12) but my parents were away and I needed it for school, now I hope this video has taught me how to do it and hasn't caused me problems with my shirt, otherwise thanks for the help

It goes without saying that we learn things one time. I always wondered why iron boards have this kind of shape.I always ironed my shirts using the top of the board only. I didn't know you could insert the edge of the board inside the shirt. LOLL. Thanks John.

My first day at a REAL job this week so thanks!! I wore a suit to the interview but the cleaners did this for me. This really helps a lot, the trick with buttoning the top button helps
I've worked for a famouse Italian designer for 5 years and believe me this is by far the best demonstration and advice I have seen, especially the buttoning of the top button! Top man!
Great video! I'm a good kroner but wanted to refine my technique before starting a load today! My mum taught me the same but not to do up the top button so I'll try that too! Secret is to have a good steam iron though to iron anything well. Many thanks. Shirt looks great and didn't need you to show me how to iron a second sleeve! I got it the first time. Lol ;-). Comments before were a bit daft about not ironing the second sleeve. Great a guy is showing how to too. All men should learn to iron as it's not just for women to do!
After all these years I finally had the idea to watch videos for ironing, this one gave me hope. It might take a bit of practice but it makes sense. He gave good tricks too.

Wearing a properly ironed shirt is one of the first serious steps in life, and TM Lewin does an excellent job with this video. Love the comment @ 3:38 though: "I go between the buttons, not over them..."

For shirts, you should use the other end of the ironing board, as the wider square area will allow you to iron a similarly wider area of the shirt without extra rotations. You should be able to do each front half, and more than half the back with each part of the rotation. That will cut your ironing time even more.
This is indeed the best shirt ironing tutorial out there. The hints regarding pressing on the back of the iron as opposed to the front in order to eliminate ripples was particularly helpful. I'm still having difficulty with the sleeves though, even though I've been ironing for a good 10 years. Ironing one side creates unwanted creases on the other and I find it difficult to straighten out he sleeve as you say. I also get those ripples across the side edges. Any further hints?
very pleased to see that you iron a french cuff flat without a hard crease at the front - they look so much better just folded and secured by a cufflink...

I'm very particular about ironing shirts, have been from an early age. I thought I had it down to a fine art but I noticed a couple of things in this video which I'm going to try which should improve my technique. Great video thanks.

I got crap clothes but still iron them and I never knew what was cause of ripples and come to find out its form pushing on the front of the iron. Always rushing. Glad I made time to watch these vids. Thanks!
Straight from Jermyn Street ... you know it's the real deal. :) Keeping us looking sharp-- even in California where flip flops and t-shirts have become the standard uniform, some of us still appreciate a tailored shirt from the source and appropriate instructions on how to care for it.
no no no no, the sleeves are never that easy. no matter how much i stretch it, i always end up creating wrinkles on the bottom side of the sleeve when i press the iron on the top side.
Helpful tips, no question. Semantics though, you've said a few times it takes 3 minutes. It takes a few minutes before you start to let the mist soak in, and another 10 minutes after to hang, so it really can't be much less than 20 minutes. The collar, and tip on the pesky ripples though was very helpful
He fast forwarded so many times and still took more than 3 minutes, and on top of that, as long as the iron touches the material, it's good enough for him, results will not be sufficient for me.
This is an instructional video. He is explaining how to do what he does while ironing. If he would just iron it without talking or stopping to explain all the time, he would easily do it in 3 minutes. You can see how masterful he is just by the motions he does not only with the iron but also how he quickly moves the shirt around on the ironing board. This is a master at work showing you the technique he's using. Just follow this technique and it might start with taking you 10 minutes, while going just a bit faster the more you do it. It takes work and practice to become great at something.
After decades of having someone else do the chore I finally decided to stop wasting tons of money on really crappy results from my local dry cleaners. Frankly, I always felt that ironing was for women or guys with strange habits. Anyway, I watched your video and learned exactly what I needed to get started so thanks!
Before searching, I was unsure whether there would actually be videos on such stupid topic, but feeling relaxed to see there're many on the same boat as mine. Having said that, thanks to all those comments above who prevented me to watch the video and I'm still awake.
25 years of experience ironing own shirts. what he got right: - spread out fabric with your palms to make it easier to iron - start with the sleeves and then shoulders or the other way round (you will crease other parts of the shirts if you leave sleeves and shoulders till the end) - pull at the seems when ironing - hang the shirt to rest / dry for 10-15 minutes before putting it on. what I do differently: - do NOT button the collar: you run the risk of creasing around the collar when ironing everything else - iron sleeves 360 degrees not just from one side and not just "almost to the edges": I iron sleeves from 3 different sides, starting from one side at the seam and moving towards the other side but not till the end (as he correctly said); after finishing one side also iron the cuff area from the inside; then twist the sleeve 1/3 around its axis to iron what would have been the ironed line (which I want to avoid) and down that area along the length of the sleeve to create some "buffer" for when you iron from the other side of the sleeve; once I am done, I flip the sleeve on the other side and finish ironing the remainder of the other side; then I iron the cuff from the outside (if need be). - iron the collar at the very end of the process by grabbing the shirt by the collar, pressing it against the edge of the ironing board and letting the rest of the shift comfortably dangle along the collar seam from the ironing board; iron the collar from the back first and then (if not enough) gently from the inside - gently to avoid burning that area and leaving it glossy So, the sequence should be: sleeves (360 degrees) + shoulders top and back (you can start with the shoulders and then do sleeves if you like) + front from one side, back, front from the other side + collar + quality control / extra finish of front sides if need be A perfectly ironed shirt can't take you 3 minutes but in 10-15 minutes you can make it look impeccable, so impeccable that your mother-in-law and your wife will ask you to show them how you did it...
