A great mridangist himself, it takes a very open heart to appreciate another mridangist. TVG proves his versatility time and again! Salutes to all the great vidwans in this video!
TVG was one of Chembai's pupil along with Jesudas. TVG can sing Hindustani too Which I have been priviledged to watch. Very talented person who is also helping newcomers in voice culture!
i think the ghatam player is the vocalist's TV Goplakrishnan's brother TV Vasan and could be part of the sruthi-laya team; both he and TV gopalakrishnan were originally mridangam exponents and then eventually veered off to fusion music and such; TVG was at one time even rated as being as good as sivaraman in mridangam; fans of UKS would love listening to TVG's mridangam play, if you can find it on you-tube;
If TVG's voice which is quite proximal to Chembai's didn't convince you, the kathiri swarams in Thodi would tell you he is a devout disciple of Chembai Sri Vaidhyanatha Bhagavatar. Umayalpuram Sri Sivaraman's mrudangam essentially sings the songs - what siddhi I say! T V Vasan's ghatam and Sundareswaran's violin accompaniment is thoughtful and enjoyable as well.
