Fell off my horse training for a show today. I was practising a course and headed up to the last jump, Fable ( My pony ) decided to hit the brakes then jump, which completely threw me off balance, I hit the side of my pony's neck and was completely out my saddle, she turned a sharp corner after getting a fright, it hit the ground hard on my back, but me being me, I'm always paranoid about my pony being okay. So I immediately got up from the hard paddock ground. My pony has the habit of galloping off whenever I fall, so when I got up, she was flat out galloping down the hill going over jumps and bucking around the sloped paddock, I was in quite a bit of pain, but I don't like to show pain unless it's severe. Eventually, Fable came to a stop and the first thing I complained about was the grass stain on my new jodhpurs, and I also was annoyed cause my friend stopped videoing the second I jumped the jump and landed on my pony's neck. Life lesson kids, don't wear white jodhpurs when doing cross-country. ( I have major regrets -_- ) Have a great day everyone and love your vids DaybyDay! Emma Xx

Willow won’t need a rug, Shetland pony’s and minis are hardy breeds that don’t need a rug not just for the fact of her hair will come out and all that but no matter what the weight is of the rug she would over heat. Shetland pony’s come from Shetland here in Scotland Shetland has very long winters, winters are very hard so Shetland pony’s have been made for this.
@VersatileHorsemanship
@VersatileHorsemanship 5 лет назад
Lyndsay Maxwell I think my ponies and minis would be pretty miserable if I blanketed them. Their coats are amazing!
@lyndsaymaxwell3943
@lyndsaymaxwell3943 5 лет назад
Versatile Horsemanship exactly!! Fair enough if you have a pony or horse that’s not made for horrible weather then get a rug on them but I don’t see the point in rugging them up if that’s what their breed is used to! I have a Welsh D x cob and I wouldn’t be rugging her up apart from the fact she’s 19 so only has a little light weight on but both breeds are hardy and are made do horrible weather if she was young she’d 110% be naked!
@VersatileHorsemanship
@VersatileHorsemanship 5 лет назад
Lyndsay Maxwell I agree. My entire herd (14 horses and ponies) are all naked, even my 26 year old mare. If I felt any of them weren’t comfortable, I would certainly blanket them.
@lyndsaymaxwell3943
@lyndsaymaxwell3943 5 лет назад
Versatile Horsemanship that’s exactly how it should be, horses are wild animals in the wild they don’t have rugs so why should we make them uncomfortably hot all because we are too cold in the weather🤷‍♀️ I hate to see horses over rugged!!
@VersatileHorsemanship
@VersatileHorsemanship 5 лет назад
Melissa Spake It all boils down to personal preference and the individual horse. Personally, I prefer not to blanket mine because I don’t feel it is necessary for my horses. They are all happy, healthy, and able to grow adequate coats for our environment. Im in Michigan and we get cold temps with about 300 inches of annual snowfall. My horses are not body clipped and they are pastured 24/7 (I bring them in if I feel it’s necessary). They have really healthy coats that keep them warm and I prefer my horses to live in their natural environment. I think it’s all about just paying attention to the individual animals needs and doing what you feel is best for their situation.

I agree so much about what you said about trainers. Every horse and rider are different and sometimes conventional methods don’t always work for one or the other, or the combination. My current coach normally trains conventionally, but he is so open to trying the most unconventional ideas to see what works best for the horse and rider and adopting whatever works to that specific horse. Since having lessons with him, my horse has changed so much, in such good ways! He coaches in a way that works for the rider, but with the horse in mind as the big goal. So he is happy to let a rider adopt a more unusual style of riding (providing it isn’t dangerous or very unbalanced or something), if that is what works best for their horse. I think he is very good at finding what works best for the horse and coaching the rider in a way to bring out the best in their horse, not necessarily the “textbook” method. It has worked wonders for me and my horse, and I think if I was a coach I would like to adopt a very similar method of teaching ☺️

Laura at 11:54 in the video it was very inspiring what you were saying because I sprained my foot and it makes me so sad because I won’t be able to ride and I have made so many goals for myself so hearing you say that really uplifted me thank you! I hurt my foot by jumping up and down when I found out I got a 102 on my English quiz when I came down my other foot came out from under me I had my Chromebook in my hand and didn’t want to drop it when my left foot slid in my right foot all I heard was a pop and pain I laughed because I was embarrassed and happy about my grade. As soon as I stood up and started walking it hurt so badly. Then I was thinking to myself what about horse back riding! I would be a both kind of coach because I would want to look at the horses view point and the riders and help them both in any way I could :) !

That’s so awesome that Sophie wants to go to the barrel racing clinic! It’ll be a great experience for her! I just want to say this from experience: I’d recommend her take Storm to the clinic, not Stella. Since Stella had a racing background (as a schooling horse at the track) the second she realizes that barrel racing is a race, she’ll probably be taking off. Of course I don’t know for sure that storm won’t, but it seems unlikely that he would. I only say this because when I started barrel racing, my horse would always run off with me and I’ve fallen off about three times because of it. It really knocked my confidence down, and I don’t want that to happen to Sophie:)

Aw stick in the grabby! Storm will be back to normal in no time. I know how I feels having a complete fine horse that’s ever even bothered to rear or buck in his life. To puff a sudden change in the weather/ food and I can barely get on him bare back without him rearing or bucking really badly. Your lucky to have a mom so considerate like yours! Many families have different ways of handling this and after many months of fighting to keep my guy I’m having to say goodbye to him tomorrow. So appreciate the spooks and wild moments those are moments you’ll learn to love! I’ve been in your spot and it’s hard! You have to find you conference in one thing and go on form there little by little. It will get knocked down so many times though but that’s the learning in riding. Good luck this spring!

I understand that a lot of people comment negatively without knowing everything, and I don’t want to be another one of them, but: I think there’s alot of frantic energy from the three of you. Maybe that’s why people comment. Take a breath, enjoy your horses and your family! Tip: always lead your horses out into the arena/paddock. You’re teaching your horses that they can walk out of their stable, and doesn’t have to follow you guys. Even if it’s 10 meters, show them that it’s you that’s in charge. Hope you understand that I’m commenting from a place of kindness, and I think you do a great job. There’s a lot to learn about horses, and no one knows everything right away!
@DayByDayVlogs
@DayByDayVlogs 5 лет назад
Thank you! I can definitely tell you are coming from a place of kindness! A lot of our frantic energy is RU-vid based. We are always more excited and energetic when we film. We also have hours and hours of calm enjoyment of our horses. I tried to film some of that in this video. Not everyone wants to see the calm part of us. Definitely true about leading them out... I like them going on their own. I know there are some parts of owning horses that are individual and this is one of ours. I can't do things per other peoples direction because 1. there are so many different opinions and 2. I need to do things my way or I would go crazy trying to meet other peoples expectations. I love letting them walk out to the arena and I think what I want and expect in our horsey journey may be different then what other people want. I'm ok with that and with doing it my way!. Obviously I do change things that people suggest that I feel could work better for us. I want to keep the things I love though! Also, I dont take responsibility for other people s mean comments. 1. Every channel has their fair share and 2. Nothing we do should evoke comments like that. It's not our fault. It's the person making the comment. Their choice. Their karma. Pur life. Our choices! Not being mean! Just saying what I truly believe

I had a cat who died som years ago, but he was the nicest thing! He sat and watched all the kids play, and he liked to have his own covers at night and lie on the back just as you would! I would just step outside, meow a little and he would come running. I still feel like I can hear him knocking on the bedroom door when he comes in at night❤️

I feel your pain with the weather. The ice is so bad at my place, my kids put on their ice skates and played hockey in front of the barn while I was feeding horses. Your description of 3 different trainers is spot on, love the way you described it. My barn cats do the same thing, they crawl up in the rafters and meow over and over, they can get down on their own but I think it’s become a fun game for them. So many of my boarders have gone into panic mode thinking my cat was trapped, all I do is shake their food dish and they come running 😂

If Sophie truly wants to do barrels first she has to get used to western riding then begin the training process (which might take a long time because you don’t know if Stella has ever been around a barrel) usually you start just walk trotting around one barrel and just add a barrel every time you ride (it can be more than three barrels too) try different patterns and run the actual pattern a few times once your trainer says your ready, if Sophie truly wants to do t I would suggest starting out on a easier horse than Stella (maybe storm or a lesson horse) I’ve been training on barrels recently too so if Sophie wants to do it I would say go for it (also there are cheap pop up barrels but you have to get the horse used to them)

It’s too bad Gabby is having confidence issues because I feel she would be able to handle riding Storm. He may just be alittle jumpy and would need a tighter rein. Perhaps Gabby could ride while someone leads him around the arena to get a feel for handling a more active horse. Just a suggestion.
@live_lovedressage1680
@live_lovedressage1680 5 лет назад
Answer to Question: I honestly believe, personally, it would completely depend on the horse and rider combination. Really don’t think I’d just be one of the three types, because every horse and rider combo is different and needs help specific to them. For example, my Paint mare (only had a 1.5 years of training but is almost 16) is an absolute saint for my little brother (10). His feet can’t even reach the stirrups and only holds the reins by the buckle. She listen to everything he wants her to do, because he says it out load “Bailey, woah.” or “Bailey, easy, slow down.” THEN, I would be focused on my little brother (making sure he never yanks on her mouth -even though she has always worn a smooth HS, KK Ultra French link snaffle - and teach him the shoulder-hip-heel position), because I trust Bailey 100% and am convinced she knows when he’s not confident. HOWEVER, my retired Hackney pony gelding is not the same. I can ride him if I want to, because he knows that he can trust me and we’ll most likely gallop. He’s not like that for people who don’t usually handle him. Few years ago, my little brother begged me to let him just walk around on my gelding. Just bareback with Mom walking beside him, holding him. I was going to lead him around just by the halter, because he trusts me more than anybody else. My little brother was *around* BG everyday but *didnt handle him (brush him, lead him, feed him, etc.)*.Well, Bluegrass had other plans and made them quite clear. Anybody that knows Hackneys will tell you they’re “pocket-rockets”, especially Roadster cart ponies (which BG was before retiring). As soon as Mom placed my brother on his back (quite softly), he instantly bucked straight up. Mom grabbed my little brother as soon as BG’s hindquarters left the ground and got him off quick. At that moment, I was only worried about my gelding because he was quite upset. Long story short, my brother never asked to ride him again. 😅 Sorry about the long story but I had to word-vomit. 😂 That was actually a really thought provoking question Laura! I’m so proud and excited for y’all and Stella! Keep up the great work! 😁👍🏻

Great vlog! I’d be the third trainer who focuses on the rider and horse but I think it would also vary a lot to do with the horse, see if the horse were to be a schoolmaster I’d focus much more in the rider and there eq whereas if it was a difficult horse or pony I’d focus more on the horse and teaching the rider how to work with horse to get it to behave. I think Sophie and Stellar would both be amazing at western if she’s into it then it’d be cool for them to try out. Also I’d recommend to the girl looking at some mounted games in RU-vid they might find that interesting, id love to do mounted games and if dressage isn’t good for Stellar hocks I doubt jumping would and maybe mounted games wouldn’t be bad for them

Oh gosh, all that water and mud, looks worse than having ice and snow, is it? Nice to see some more little measuring buckets in use, knew they’d be handy lol. I wouldn’t have thought it’s the medicine with Storm Laura, he’s probably just showing a little attitude, perhaps a little bored, as you said, even if he hasn’t been ridden for a while he never seems particularly fresh, although in some horses they’re just a little more spooky, rather than really forward going. I’m sure he’d be ok if Gabby got on, even with Sam walking with her, she’s much more capable than she thinks at times and it’s just the lack of confidence getting in the way ( but I do understand why) and always better to be safe and try again another day. Or perhaps someone more experienced at the barn could sit on him first 😊

I would say I'm a balanced trainer. I do focus a lot on how the rider is handling and working with there horse. To many people dont look at the horses body language to see if it's in pain. Bits are one of the most miss used tool in the horse world because its because of the rider. To train a horse and rider properly (in my opinion) you have to look at both the rider and the horse. What is the rider doing to make the horse do that? If you correct the rider and the horse it will make them more of a team. Balanced traning is the best way with all animals. (Again my opinion)

I defiantly would be a both horse and rider coach, it's about the whole picture of horse and rider together as one, working as a partnership.

I think it's harder then you think! I think everyone wants to be that coach... but it's so hard to know you would actually be!

I’m new here and I was just watching a bunch of your videos! But not in order so now I’m confused (this is what I think ) is storm Gabbie’s and Stella’s Sophie’s ? ( here’s some more questions) was that Sibrina horse yours? If yes what happened to her? And are you able to ride Stella anymore after her injury? Also how far away is the barn form your house bc sometimes it seems like it’s close but sometimes it seems like it takes you guys a little to get down there( I would appreciate it so much if someone could help me with my questions )

I think I would mostly see the horse and always care about the horses wellbeing first but will also try and make the riders conformation better and healthier while looking after the horse

Storm or Stella don’t hardly need rugs because there not clipped. When horses are in in the winter they need need to clipped because of sweat. That is why your horses are shedding because the in work bit there clipped.

If you are still looking for a horse then I recommend you to get a fjord horse, because they are amazing horses. They are perfect for children and also very beautiful. We want to buy a fjord but there are very few fjords in Estonia. :((

You should bring Storm to your barn till he's better then you wouldn't have to travel to his barn 2 times a day.
@eilidhmaysimmons3821
@eilidhmaysimmons3821 5 лет назад
The only problem would be settling him back in when they took him back. The horses would have to establish a pecking order again which means that storm might end up worse than he already was!

Horse Adict there’s only 2 horse shops around me but they are both an hour away, and since I can’t drive my Nana is picky when I get to go. They are both amazing and fancy though. One is Dover Saddlery and the other is Broken Horn

Honestly I think that I would be more focused on the horse but I would definitely try to see both. My trainer is amazing she is definitely a both and everything to perfection and it’s amazing! I’m so happy for you guys that you have your own barn (I know you have for awhile) but it’s always nice to appreciate it.

Storm has been out of work AND it's spring. All horses feel some sort of spring fever and act a little nuts lol. Good idea to wait for your trainer if you are not comfortable with how he is acting :-)

I’d be a coach that sees through the horses eyes, not necessarily a horse coach or a rider coach, but I see everything through a horses eyes with pressure and release and stuff like that.

Sophie to Storm in the arena... "Can you see a pokemon or something?" - Lol!! I think the color of Storm's saddle looks great on him. And it will be okay Gabby... you can still ride Stella a little, and I'm sure Kailey will let you ride Tex 😊

Sometimes horses act up if they have something medically wrong with them that may be hidden to the naked eye. I learned that when I went to a medical/jumping clinic. I would especially check his new saddle or his mouth. That’s where a lot of problems like to hide.
