I did the exercise but found that it made a pinching feeling in the lower vertebrae of my neck on the side I was leaning into - I have a lot of tension in my neck - perhaps because it's not quiet supported enough on my arm. I also wasn't sure how wide to take my legs as I found it pinched in my lower back area in the direction I was leaning. I am pretty tense and nervous about making the tension in my body worse (as I've done that quiet a few times now!), but wondered if there was a way to use my breath/ ribs to work into the other tension in my mid back as you say as it makes sense what you say! The jaw massage feels alleviating for sure..

I did both of the exercises here and frankly found the relief to be actually overwhelming. It’s like my body does not want to let go. I almost immediately felt my neck and hips release after the lateral childs pose, but to the point where my body is freaking out. I have held tightness there for so long that i literally dont know how to not have that. Its almost like emotions are rushing out of that area. It’s really weird.

This is definitely an area many people and patients have described as reacting in a similar way. The body can hold on to emotional and psychological trauma in a physical way - think of the body as having it's own "trauma posture." It's a safety mechanism and self-preserving one - but it doesn't serve us well in terms of orthopedic or musculoskeletal health. I have definitely had multiple people write in to share stories similar to yours, and I've had patients report the same - so you are not alone! The good news is - the body can let go and recover!

I am very tight in my ribs, I'm wondering if this will help. My tango instruction is always pointing out that I have trouble twisting in the turns and I feel blocked there.

See if it helps and let me know! Would love to hear how it goes - thoracic tightness can definitely be influenced by jaw and diaphragm mobility and vice-versa.

Thanks for this Dr Ginger. I have always struggled to breathe and it’s been a life long mission and journey to figure out why. I have made breakthroughs but this helps. What are your thoughts on dissociation? And snapping hip?✨
@DrGingerGarner
@DrGingerGarner 5 месяцев назад
Dissociation in terms of trauma/stress response? As for snapping hip - there can be many causes for that, but the good news is most of them are benign.

@@DrGingerGarner Thanks for your response. I experience dissociation on the left side of my brain. I have mild scoliosis on the right side of my spine. I feel like the pulling/ twist in my spine is partially what causes a lot of my other issues. I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on dissociation being purely physical and not necessarily in relation to trauma. Also what type of massage do you feel compliments a 3 diaphragm perspective? 🙏✨

Yes sometimes dissociation can be purely physical too. Any soft tissue work can be a positive adjunct, when done by an experienced therapist who is aware of the 3 diaphragm approach. @@soulfire.
