Please stop the negative comments...butt draggers are an essential part of the mat clean up crew .They help keep the mats dry and free of dirt during the match .
@@InvisibleHotdog didn't the gladiators blood stains in the coliseum well ..let the stains that are brown be a story of inspiration for every butt scooter ,leg hugger and yoga positional rolling that their is to come .
weird how a sport with 90% ground fighting doesn't really emphasize takedowns that much and being able to get the fight to the ground in the first place.
Yeah that's a really good point... maybe they want to get down there so bad they just don't have the patience to wait for a takedown🤔 And to think we've always had a shame free way to get to the ground besides pulling guard, why don't these BJJ guys just walk out grip up and immediately go for a big sacrifice throw so they can pull guard without looking like a bunch of Miss Nancy's
Its stuff like this that makes BJJ move away from practical self defence and encourage habits that only work in the context of a sport. Maybe it will help prove self defence in court tho lol - "Your honour I sat down and said I didn't want to fight but he still came at me and tried to hit me on the ground. In the confusion I broke his leg"
It's a great idea but impossible to implement, in my opinion the only way to deal with the situation is to reward the athlete who is in the Superior striking position with points so if someone pulls guard it's the same as giving up the takedown. You could also Institute a riding time were an athlete that maintains the Superior striking position gets points after a predetermined amount of time. Brazilian jiu-jitsu and all grappling Sports desperately need a step-up point as well. Those are some of the most basic tenets of grappling Sports that are usually the first betrayal when it becomes an entirely unique sport.
@@BURGAWMMAexactly - pull guard = you've given up a takedown, stay on the bottom for too long = you're giving up superior striking position, even if you have a guard
Here is the solution: Sitting guard (no grips): Immediately stand them back up. Award penalty if the ruleset includes it, then DQ if enough penalties. Pulling guard (with grips): award 2 points to opponent.
That would be an interesting strategy... I always thought it ridiculous why not just go for a sacrifice throw and if you miss... get your guard! I'd simply make a takedown worth Five Points so the moment your butt hit the ground a -5 showed up on your scoreboard!
Butt dragging should be an ego check to all bjj practitioners that at the end of the day, it’s still a martial art. It may blur the lines between a MA and a fighting skill, but it’s not fighting.
Martial arts should be an ego check to anybody who thinks fighting without death and weapons is at all comparable to fighting with them. Martial arts may feel similar, but by thinking you are a real warrior because you do a sport is honestly something that makes me feel like you have wasted the little time you had on this planet.
Martial arts are fighting skills, just varying levels of effectiveness based on pressure testing. Like how people forget boxing and wrestling are martial arts
@@BURGAWMMA why did he bother turning up at all then? Get a point a head and walk round the matt til the times over? That’s why JJ isn’t a sport people want to watch
@@jaywilliams6250 guard pulling is the reason no one wants to watch BJJ... it looks REDICILIOUS and completely betrays the roots of the style plus there's always been a cowardly way you can get to the ground without contesting the stand-up wrestling game without losing your manhood and they still don't do it... on the rare occasion I looked across the mat and saw an athlete I knew I could not compete with in the standing game I didn't pull guard like I was in a rape prevention class I went for a big sacrifice throw I was unlikely to get and wound up on the ground but on my terms in a surprise maneuver in order to pull a reversal.
Simply forcing people to do takedowns isn't going to solve the issue since a dedicated guard player will just give up a leg for free to get to the ground (see: Gordon Ryan). You probably need something like combat jiu-jitsu but with kicks allowed from standing > ground to actually incentivize against butt scooting. Either you take a guard and control someone with it, get back on your feet, or you eat kicks.
100% they've turned it into a silly game Loosely based on one of the greatest martial arts of all times! What a terrible shame because with a couple rule tweaks they could fix it
Maybe penalize butt scooting for avoidance? If you pull guard while the other guy is touching you award the other guy points for the take down. That might stop the pulling guard stuff. At least make an attempt to make it look like you went for a sacrifice throw and botched it. Then you can end up in guard where you wanted to be anyway as a butt scooter 😂
That's the only solution that makes sense however we know they're going to just pretend a sacrifice throw so they can sit down on their beloved behind so you have to give the other guy take down points either way
He's obviously dominating his opponent so what's the rush? If somebody is so afraid of you they had to sit down and fight like a bitch dog you're winning
@@BURGAWMMA ppl when someone doesn't do a takedown in a sport where the takedown isn't the objective. all jokes aside what you have said here is wrong, in the SPORT of jiujitsu being on bottom position not only doesn't not mean you are losing, is anything it means you will win since it has been proven that at adcc trails the person who pulls guard wins by submission more (61%)
They don’t many will claim that the sport aspect of BJJ has bastardized it into something that isnt a self-defense art; however, ever since its conception BJJ has been plagued by principles that make it very impractical for combat
It's not meant to be a go to, it's meant to be there if you are on the ground, but people now just go to the ground which isn't smart. JJJ was a complete system and the gracies just cherry picked the newaza.
I'd say it's considerably worse because it's actually marketed as a martial art whereas sport Taekwondo is comfortable in the fact that it's an Olympic game
Of course they have... they'd rather play their own unique little game and make believe it's got nothing to do with winning the fight from whence it originally came
@@BURGAWMMA UFC 1 changed out attitudes back in the day, but the only thing available back in the day was useless martial arts because they look good. Some people only saw UFC 1 and thought bjj was the only thing needed, Gracie was more nervous in UFC ten when he had to learn some stand up.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me embarrassed of practicing this art ... if you pull guard and sweep the other guy within 5 seconds you should lose 2 points (same as if the other guy took you down)
YEAH, you have to punish the practice because it's so ridiculous... I've often thought of some type of riding points for the athlete that's in a superior striking position
I have simmular mentality Takedown > sacrifice throw/pulling sweep > pulling guard. If i can't get a takedown i try to get the grips for my butterfly sweeps, and finally if i cant get that and i am 100% dominated in the stamding i pull guard to save myself from the takedowns. Pulling guard with the excaption of leglocking position is only advantages compared to being dropped on your head, or starting from side buttom on the ground.
It's a competition, a physical game. Would you stand and wrestle a known good wrestler if you want to win the game? Don't confuse these types of matches with fights.
true, its a game however it's based on combat like a pankration match so it should not betray the tenants from where it came... putting youself in an inferior striking position so you can fish for submissions is a poor strategy in real fighting so it should also be the same in a game meant to represent true fighting!
@@BURGAWMMA It isn't true fighting, so you've missed the point. I train at an MMA gym too, and we know the difference. You play to the rules if you want to win. Same thing with fighting: do you stand and trade strikes with a superior striker? Do you try to out-wrestler a better wrestler? Do you try to submit a superior submission wrestler? No, you win the game with whatever you have that is better than the other guy.
@@Spiritof_76 I don't look at martial arts or combat sports as games but analogs of combat made somewhat safe by rules HOWEVER if the rules make the style obsolete for combat its just a silly game...Sport BJJ is a FAKE martial art
@@BURGAWMMA Get lost. Most sport bjj guys have the upper hand against Joe A'hole picking a fight and many other "real" martial arts as well. That doesn't mean they shouldn't practice self defense or striking if they want to be more prepared for danger. You're not the arbiter of reality. Go pick a fight with ADCC finals competitors who don't practice striking. I'd pay to watch.
@@Spiritof_76 how many street fights do you have under your belt? You ever bounced a bar or worked law enforcement? Sport Grapplers suck at fighting that's why they don't enter MMA and sport grappling doesn't pay crap. If that's silly garbage work today MMA they'd use it to make real money
So let me get this correct. You can scoot your ass and win? Also become a champion? Seriously? So what do these ass scooters do in real fighting situations?
BJJ works in a real fight! Trust me bro! In all seriousness, ground fighting is an extremely important skillset and anyone who wants to be a well rounded martial artist needs to at least practice the basics. But $&/t like this gives BJJ a REALLY bad name. I mean come on, at least learn a little bit of stand up grappling and a couple takedowns. Geezus man!
I feel like dude in reds at fault here. Buttscoot Boi was pushing forward but red wasn't engaging. Then he just sits down like "fuck it we start here" and red continues to back up.
@@kris3451 he was probably just backing up cuz they thought the guy was trying to bite him in the junk... I train all my athletes to Simply stand up and put their hands up and victory when someone sits on their butt...
