I didn't do a good job of explaining who you'll be fighting and why in this video, so I wrote a post going into more detail about that: steamcommunity.com/games/1043... And you can wishlist it here! store.steampowered.com/app/10...
Original gameplay, unusual UX, or just quirky as hell! That's exactly what British Indie devs are all about. Occasionally some of us even make a little money I've heard. That last bit might just be a rumour though.
@@donjay6728 Yes. Quite enjoyed it actually. The commas were to indicate one or a combination of the three things. There are quite a few games in the isometric tactics genre. How original this one is obviously remains to be seen since it's early in development. It certainly covers the "quirky" aspect already however. Also, I'm unashamedly biased in favour of UK indie devs.
Yeah, that line had me laughing, as I just came here from playing Heat Signature, where I just spaced like 4 guys, and shanked 3 others with a laser shortsword. XD
They are arresting you for wizard porn or for your attempts at making real-life catgirls or some other thing in that reddit thread of teenage shit that probably happened in Hogwarts
@@Awesomenessgaminglebrony *suddenly appears behind you and stabs you in the gut* Y'all need to learn some manners, what whould your o'l man say about you?
Imagine if you could make your own backstory and put in (a fair array of tweekable) mechanics for them, just like the characters represented here. with both that and player made levels, you could have a level designer GM who gives story beats in between sections to give a healthy, purposely railroaded experience lol.
No We need to know why she is cop/wizard What made her decide to do this? Did some illegal potion brewers turn her sweetheart into a toad? The world needs answers
I think it could potentially be a good idea to add two ways to play the game: #1: Rewind is enabled, allowing for a more relaxed kind of game experience. #2: Rewind is disabled, allowing for a more tactical and risky experience for those who would want something to that effect. With this, players could get the best of both worlds, widening the appeal, and keeping the original casual style of play in-tact for those who wanted a more calm playthrough.
@@arthurkennedy6976 Yeah limiting the ability was my first idea. As it is there is no challenge you can just breeze through it. There is a place for that so don't scrap the idea totally. Keep it as a game mode. But also add one where you have limited or even one with no rewind. Or make it so it is connected to the difficulty setting
I like that kicking people through windows is a feature in all of your games. It's great! Well it seems that it is part of the defenestration trilogy, so that should have been obvious
Nonlethal monk: The guy that doest kill and cuffs enemies Skill: Holy Light Blinds/stuns enemies in 2x2 radius (like a flashbang) Swat Rogue: Roams outside and executes enemies through windows Skill: Shadow lurk Be invisible and becomes visible again after commiting the turn (great for escape)
@@tawoorie "Ambush" implies coordination and foreknowledge. This is just some guy *watching over* a specific area with his finger on the trigger, and being as surprised as you are when somebody comes around the corner and gets got.
@@ProfesorCafe There are ways to play non-meta in some online games. Comedically, LoL is fairly good at that. But for the most part, you are right. Interviews with high-level SFV players are riddled with "There is only a few good ways to play."
@@galvanizeddreamer2051 yeah if you choose carefully you can win LoL games with very weird picks, the advantage of a large pool of characters to choose from. this probably only applies to low-mid ranks though.
'TOC, this is entry team.' 'Entry team, go ahead.' 'We've got bigger OpFor on our hand, requesting backup.' 'Entry team. Copy that, we're sending in riot priest as backup.'
Yah know, I don't buy nor really have liked my experienced with turn based games. But you, you good sir have made a quirky, fun and interesting turn based game. This game, this beautifully created game is one of the very few games i've looked into buying straight away.
"I was struggling a bit because I couldn't think of a reason for that". This is, I feel, the underlying mentality that makes me actually love this development process and the team behind it. Wanting a reason to explain why things work the way they do, and then coming up with believable and creative and meaningful ways to resolve those questions. Super excited for this, keep up the awesome work-
beautiful aesthetics and really interesting gameplay style. I also appreciate the commentary showing the game theory behind the ideas that you're implementing. Excited to see the finished product!
Finally a cosmetic system in a modern game based on skill rather than how much money you are willing to spend on a game! I love all your games, keep up the amazing work!
My friend said "hey watch this" because he knew how much I like Fire Emblem and also accurately guessed how much I would _adore_ Witch Cop. I love all the little details - the folded broom on her back, the safety stripes on her hat, "Danger: Armed Priest" and danger stripes and cop car lights(?) on the Riot Priest. Also the minute supernatural details around the enemy den alongside electric fans and laptops and what looks a bit like a 3D printer. Also, body-checking foes through windows: what's not to like? I'll watch this project with interest, but I gotta say, even the graphics at this point are very appealing (although I noticed Witch Cop appears to have no pants/shoes texture lol). I even like the slightly rough quality of the buttons at this stage. Also, I love the idea of the Rewind! Making experimenting rewarding rather than too costly to do often is a wonderful idea.
@@Spidehman I totally didn't notice that, good eye! Also a little concerning about the possibility of her headbutting lit candles (though she at least has a face shield), self-damage mana gen or no.
@@Soroboruo "It's okay, my wax burns empower me!" :P But yes, in all seriousness I love good character design when it's got subtle details like this. This alone makes me want the game - it looks fantastic!
"i like games that let you do interesting things..." me: "is that so? maybe you can try out-" me: (notices name) me: "wait, you made heat signature and gunpoint DAMMIT"
I wonder how many times developers have talked about video games in casual conversation and they're like "oh yeah you know I like this in a game" and then someone says "oh well you would love 'so and so'" and then the developer is like "I know I would... I made it"
@@subatomiccc300 he retired from reviewing games and made gunpoint, then followed it with heat signature. Tom is one of those creators that stands out in the most positive way possible. Plus the extent he goes through explaining his ideas is so refreshing.
I absolutely love the art-style, and I appreciate how detailed everything is despite the limitations presented by such a take on the genre. I'd love to see some more atmospheric effects (smoke, obscurity, toxicity, etc), and maybe a shield shattering effect when the heavily armored enemy dies. Overall, this game looks fantastic considering how early into development you make it sound!
It'll be interesting if there is like special bg characters in some levels who just do their thing like smoking, skateboarding, bullying someone ect. Adds some atmosphere and things to see.
You have put so much thought into this while at the same time keeping it absolutely accessible. That combined with the absolutely interesting plot (I mean, witch cops, how cool of an idea is that?) made me REALLY want to play this game while watching your video. I especially love the rewind mechanic! Normally I don't like turn based strategy since just like you said I can't really try out stuff or ideas without putting the overall success at stake. That's why I also loved the battle system of Caligula Effect, which features a similar mechanic. The style points idea is well thought out, too, so can't wait to get my hands on it!
The rewind mechanic and the "style points" mechanic sound like some of the most liberating and satisfying (respectively) ways of handling a tactical game I've ever heard of, no lie. I especially like how they combine with the idea of using your own units in combos.
This looks great! I like concept of magical SWAT team, and as someone who is just bad at games your approach to difficulty means that I will be able to enjoy the story. Plus I was searching for a tactical game like this. Definitely will be watching your progress!
This game looks great! Very creative, looking forward to seeing more! Also I feel like there's a certain amount of appeal to the hand-drawn UI elements. Gives it a pencil and paper tabletop RPG feel, which is very fitting with the gameplay style. Being able to try something then change your mind and revert makes me think of drawing and erasing, so having the UI reflect that could be cool. Up to you though, it's your game.
DragonaxFilms Maybe the idea could be that this is the plan the witches and wizards are drawing up before the fight. And once you’ve come up with a working plan it is executed.
I know that kind of talk would be a long way off but this would be perfect for the Nintendo Switch! Definitely keeping my eye out for this, looks great!
I realize this is a dev update, but I think having the attack / window smash animations be slower / meatier would add more texture! What about a slow Mo cam for certain things?
Wishlisted on Steam!! I'm usually not one for this genre of game, but I think with a rewind option my stress about it would be far less. Plus, the CHARACTERS. Your pitch, Witch Cop and Riot Priest, the art, it's all just so unique and wonderful. Wishing you and your team a swift and easy development period so we can get our hands on what's looking to be an absolute gem of a game! I WILL be confident enough to wear the gold armor ;p
