Have you ever wondered where the techniques of Taekwondo come from? Does it seem strange that the techniques of Karate look the same as the techniques from Taekwondo?
In this video, I explore the origins of Taekwondo, along with how you can apply the movements of the forms or poomsae. Check out this exciting guide into the history of Taekwondo!
Also, make sure to visit my website and try out one of my free courses:

This is one of the best martial arts history videos I’ve seen. Very funny but also accurate

I recommend reading “A Killing Art” by Alex Gillis. Which goes into great detail about TKD’s origins and tug of war history.

I’ve read it, it’s very propaganda heavy so I’m cautious to take it at face value, but yes, I think it’s a good one to at least be aware of.

@@WinserEspinal a lot of people like to ascribe super human powers to historical martial arts figures. For example, do you think someone can stab their hand through the flesh of another human?

Really like the long range, close range analysis. So many moves have potential as defence and offence. I'm only a TKD yellow belt, but have some experience with Wing Chun. I prefer the close range in sparring, which my TKD clubmates often find frustrating. Will check out the course!

Politics had a hand in the creation of modern Karate, it had a hand in the creation of Taekwondo, it has a hand in the ITF-WTF split and probably other things related to the general martial arts world

In before all the ATA guys come in here crying that TKD is over a 1000 of years old and uniquely Korean... while totally ignoring the factual history of the art they reference as TKD's ancestor hwarng-do was actually a grappling style like jiujitsu. Not to mention all ancient statues/glaydon vase's/texts depicting hwarang-do (actual museum artifacts), show it as a grappling style only, hence it is nothing like TKD and more a long forgotten Korean jiujitsu system.
@tkdguide
@tkdguide Год назад
Interesting, I didn’t know ATA made that claim.
@slademassie6305

Per the official ATA website: historians believe it originated from a Korean martial arts form known as t'aekyon practiced over 1,300 years ago. Just google full ATA international History because it seems when I link to it the reply gets removed.

This was a condensed, factual, and insightful synopsis on the history of Taekwondo. Well presented. Especially the ranges of combat as time went on. Karate/Taekwondo has to evolved to meet the needs of the people practicing it.... all roads are worth the journey. I started in the 80's and it's been interesting to see it change over time.

@@tkdguide I’d love to visit Japan but the thought of going is becoming more and more unrealistic for me. I have tattoos all over the place. And Japan is so petty that I wouldn’t be allowed in many hotels, restaurants, martial arts schools, theme parks etc… Also japan has a law that the police there can stop and search you for no reason and they have a 99% conviction rate. They have the right to hold you for 28 days or some stupid shit if they feel you are breaking their laws. Japan has some of the dumbest laws in the worlds and it makes me never want to step foot there.

This is wrong you didn't do your home work. Even if you just checked on wikipedia you have better understanding. If I am rude sorry but this video is offence to me as Korean. If you think about the time frame what you have in here and relationship between Korean and Japan you may want to change something on this.

If you could find this on Wikipedia the video wouldn’t be called “the unknown history”. I’m sorry if the information in the video is hurtful to you, but the fact is there is a lot of fake propaganda history surrounding Taekwondo. If there is a particular point in the video you find false I am happy to discuss it and correct myself if I am proven to be wrong.

@@tkdguide I just wanted to thank you for not even addressing the Taekkyon connection BS that General Choi and Nam Tae Hi came up with in order to sell Taekwondo to the Korean government as a "truly korean" martial art. I love Taekwondo and I am glad it is still a thing today, but knowing the truth about its origin is, imo, a step in the right direction for every Taekwondo practicioner.
