I am currently a student in Sun Tai Chi developed by Dr. Lam. Most of the students are senior citizens and we are members of the YMCA. The Tai Chi class is called Sun Tai Chi for Arthritis. Two of our members are on wheel chairs, but are able to walk for short periods of time. You might check with your local YMCA. The fee to use all of the facilities and take all classes is $75/family per month.

The best thing is to find a good Tai Chi teacher, one that you feel comfortable with. That means you will need to search. If you know people who are taking Tai Chi you could ask them. The kung fu grandmaster Ark Y. Wong was once asked if anyone could really learn from films. He said simply, "No." You need the personal contact and the immediate corrections.

You practice tai chi slow to learn to control ur chi and to build energy. Also its good for relieving stress and learning the forms correctly when practiced slow.
@godlameroso
@godlameroso 16 лет назад
the motions are slow in order to make you aware of your entire body movement. Thus if practiced enough you learn to use your entire body just to move your finger. The result is you become ambidextrous, and your mind gains greater creativity as your corpus callosum develops in response to your mastery of both sides of the body.

Depends on where you are. In Los Angeles one of the best for Chan Style is Sifu Qichen Guo. He is something like 12th generation Chen Stylist. There is also Sifu James Wing Woo. He's been teaching Yang Style for decades. Also is Sifu Bucksam Kong. He's a Hung Gar Master but also teaches Tai Chi from time-to-time. Prices will vary.

The trick to kicking is to ensure that the leg which you used to support you is not stiff. The joint on the knee has to be relax.

it is not an aerobic type of exercise. nor a muscle building type of exercise.but it does move a lot of joints and is good for golden aged senior with arthritis.young people learn this for martial art applications too.people like jet li and jackie chan.

Well -- of course terms like "exaggerated" and "perfectly" mean one thing to one person and something else to another. But, clearly there are very different styles of performing tai chi. Just speaking for myself, we try to follow the form and style which was exemplified and taught by Prof. Cheng Man Ch'ing. There are videos of him on RU-vid. If you compare that style with the gentleman in this video, clearly the latter is demonstrating a much different style of tai chi than that of Prof. Cheng.

I only know how to do it on Safari, but it is a Flv file and should play in any flash player. With iSquint it can be converted to an mp4. First I would check with youtube to see how they feel about downloading files to your drive.

The knees here are not really extended meaningfully past the toes. The feet are relaxed and flat on the ground at extension, he obviously is not stressing the ankle or the knee. In other words, some people can extend safely. Perfect technique is the perfect vehicle for chi/jing to flow, but if you have jing, technique takes a far second place .

noklarok: I have just reread my original comment again, & I now see why you may have taken offense on behalf of Cheng Man Ching. I may have given the wrong impression. The people telling the story were dedicated lineage students of Cheng Man Ching, admire him & the heritage he shared with Wm CC Chen. I admire & respect his work. The point of their story was simply that his form was so smooth that he had to slow it down for the video. I youtube very late at night & was tired. No dis intended.

winning medals and being named wushu master says enough. He is doing a form of tai chi made for shows and competitions. If you check the tai chi history you will find that this is a seperate form for demonstrations, not for actual effectiveness in combat. I prefer truely effective tai chi.

After you have mastered your body, as he has, momentarily over extending of the knees is ok. Pratice pratice.
@ffferol
@ffferol 15 лет назад
Well, the story I heard from one of Wm CC Chen's students is that when Cheng Man Ching was originally making his videos no one could really tell what he was doing, because it was so smooth and minimal. So they asked him to slow it down and make it much more obvious for people who would not be able to see it in person. So he did. And now people think that style he demonstrated in his videos is the real thing. Makes them all laugh. This video is a tutorial, folks, which makes a difference.
@ffferol
@ffferol 14 лет назад
I have no idea what you are talking about and I don't think it has much to do with what I said. I greatly admire Chen Man Ching. I admire internal martial arts. I don't come out to youtube to fight with people.

Here lies the problem... Tai Chi was developed for the battlefield NOT competition! Most modern practitioners totally lack or even practice this aspect & fail to understand the higher levels. That is why this once great art has been reduced to it's present shambles. The mastesr of old fought with their system not dance!

I doubt that either one of us can prove a thing. So what." i am trying to help find the truth in what sounds like bullshit. and i dare say muck-spreading. why diss CMC? you diss cheng i'll diss chen. lies should be fought against. big up Ch'eng Man Ch'ing (r.i.p.)

Good Luck if you want to be like the above! Taijiquan was NEVER invented for health & happiness, it was purely a combat art, getting healthy was just a side effect!!! Read the histories of Yang Luchan, Sun Lutang, Yang Shou ho & see if they emphasise health & happiness... I think not!!!!

stance and posture are not that great with this guy. And that`s what it`s all about folks....some chinese guy once said: If it looks good, it`s not kung fu. Meaning that the flashier it looks, the less correct or effective it is.
@ExplosiveFist
@ExplosiveFist 18 лет назад
Technically speaking the guys form is awful. His postures are over-extended, he leans, very little yin/yang movements in hands - mostly "dead" movements. The guy shows virtually no opening/closing during postures. Even if practised as a qigong, this is poor!
@dirthpool

He's just insecure and unhappy with himself.
@SlabTzu
@SlabTzu 18 лет назад
Its not that amazing, its the short form and the dude breaks many basic prinicples that internal stylists take very seriously. In fact this is supposed to be healthy but if you do this with out principle you gonna end up with ruined knees and your arms pulled out of their sockets by real Tai Chi fighters. Not that healthy at all! Stick to the traditional long form and don't over extend or push your knees pass your toes.
