Taikan-ten Bonsai exhibition, Kyoto 

If keeping and styling Bonsai keeps you looking that young at 56 years old then I need to start this hobby ASAP.

I've no idea how anyone could pick a 'winner'. They all looked incredible.

I had no idea that bonsai trees could be 450 years old. That is astonishing.

When I saw the subtitles say he was 56, I stopped immediately to look at the comments. I’m an not disappointed.

"i'm 56 years old" Could swear this man is just out of college

Imagine a piece of art from the renaissance that generations of artists have added too, that’s what those old bonsai are

Everyone you look at is a masterpiece. And the one chosen as the Masterpiece of all of them? Mind blowingly beautiful.

Can we all acknowledge the future thought and care that were put into making these? Like people 450 years ago were the one that planted the seed for something that could be enjoy by everyone in the future. Like holy shit the trust they had in the future to keep up a tradition.

Just imagine the hard work & the patience that have been put in these masterpieces 👍👍👏👏

WOW! What an amazing display of the best bonsais in the world. Imagine 300 & 400 yrs. old trees growing and alive in a small pot. You can just imagine the amount of care, dedication and passion devoted to them by the caretakers. They deserve our admiration and we should honor them for allowing us to see the product of their passion and for the next generations to see, love and appreciate these bonsais. Watching these bonsais warms and enriches one's being and soul. Thank you so very much.

These trees have great spirit and energy, imagine the responsibility one has when entrusted to care for a 450 yo Bonsai, you can't say Ooophs I forgot to water the tree.

I think the art of taking something that is supposed to be 5+ meters high and making it a foot tall and bending it into really beautiful shapes is just incredible. Like the natural forms of these trees are like normal tree size. That's so impressive.

I am so very humbled watching this. Incredible history in each creation, cared for by generations.

Bonsai is something that is very close to me. This is because most of the houses in my neighborhood do it. But what's on display here is really awesome! I can't help but admire how they've grown it so far. It is important to take care of both Japanese gardens and bonsai.

These bonsai are truly beautiful masterpieces, priceless national treasures. You can feel the the spirit emanating from these gorgeous works of art. Gorgeous!

The trees are extremely magnificent, they can be tiny but they are very beautiful. The fact that it has the element of life and death is very philophical.

Absolutely stunning work! The sublimity that comes from imagining these tree's long life spans, really everything they must've been witness to, is so captivating! It's added onto by the fact that our assumed host is 56, yet he looks so young! He looks about 30, I bet he's done just as well taking care of himself as he's done with his plants themselves!

The only shame is who ever started these trees never got to see how unbelievably beautiful they are.

IMHO, every tree at this show was a winner. Thank you for the inspiration.
