Tailor fishing on the flats - Daiwa Double Clutch 75

A lovely winter morning's fishing down at the mud flats. I'm not to sure if was a good decision wading in the cold water as my feet went all numb. However, we ended up hooking up on some good tailor and boy, did they fight well to the end. Apart from that, the morning was a bit quiet as the fish had shut down and were off the bite possibly to the cold.
Lure: Daiwa Double Clutch (Ghost Perch Pattern)

Yeah I reckon you could tighten your drag a touch. Still looks like fun though!

StraightNoChaser86 hey mate, with hard bodies, the key is to have loose drag, so you don't pull the trebles out - which happened on the second fish. Sometimes you hook fish, especially bream, just on the lips. If you have tight drag, you have a bigger chance in pulling the hooks out. Thanks for watching :)

Hey mate, the 95 dives a bit deeper and great for targeting Flatheads and pelagics. The 75 is good for shallow water and great for targeting bream. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😊

Hahaha exactly mate. Sometimes the water is cooler than the air temperature. But not this morning. Also doesn't help when there is also a slight chill in the breeze. Thanks for watching :)

Most of your fish on the hard plastic are foul hooked. I prefer using Zman soft plastics. Gets them in the mouth almost every time.

Hey mate, Tailor usually dont swallow a prey/bait/lure whole like flathead. They usually swipe/chomp/tear away - hence the term "chopper tailor". I hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching 👍

Get a pair of wetsuit boots, they are awesome for winter, I wear mine in summer too they get a bit toasty though

I find that my 75 Daiwa Double Clutch doesn’t sink more than 50cm in saltwater. Do you ever weight it with a sinker?

Hey mate, do you mean it doesn't dive to more than 50cm? They are a floating lure, so without any action, the lure will float up. Normally, the double clutch 75 can dive up to 2m. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching :)

ImJasonFish Yes, that’s what I meant. Excuse my ignorance but how do they dive with “action”? So the twitch, twitch, pause, takes the lure up, and the mechanism inside the lure shifts the weight inside for it to dive during the pause? Is that right? I’ve just been slow retrieving and notice that it swims around 1m or so underwater.

It dives because it has a bib on it. A bigger bib means, deeper diving. The weight internally does help it dive slightly, but more used for stabilisation in flight when casted. What depth are you using the lure in?

ImJasonFish Today in around 3m of water in a estuary. Thanks. I’ll try the twitch and pause next time. I’ll got the 95 too for deeper water.

Mate how do you cast so far with such a light lure? I'm Struggling

Hey Ben, try positioning yourself so you are casting with the wind. Also, using the lightest braid and lightest leader you can get away with your target species. The Double clutches are great lures for casting as they have a sliding weight system inside - stabilising the lure in flight while being casted. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 😊
