I loved this opening as a kid. A part of me wished it kept this tone, but watching it now I can't help but tear up. He's waiting for his brother, but he outlived him and never said goodbye. That's tough.
I still don't understand why people hate the sequel so much. I know the first one is awesome, and no one can repace Bellushi, but jeez To me, 2 of my favourite movies of all time, and also part of my childhood and love for music.
I second that emotion. The Blues Brothers (1980) is an all time classic. Blues Brothers 2000 told a decent story the way it could. Far from perfect, but far from being the absolute worst that people have painted it as.
wait people dont like this? why though? Ive seen both and love both :) the sequel I didnt even know about until a friend showed it to me and I loved it as soon as I watched and honestly what made me love it right away was the opening itself, the other songs also but this one really set up the movie for me but hey to each their own I guess
Amen... Yes, the original one IS THE ORIGINAL ONE... And while a rule was busted that one should NOT do a sequel....it is a good film in its own right, it will never excel the same way as the first one, still, it is a film
Thank you Dan Akroyd and John Landis for two great entertaining movies. It was these movies that played a huge part in maintaining and revitalising Blues and other genres and helped keep lively hoods going. These movies are what they are, they played a vital role in rekindling the music At the end of the day great entertainment.
Once in a while, I used to go into Vancouver, where my father worked My folks would bring me along to this little blues club. I'm sure i was underaged, but in those days... Anyway, it was so intimate( small), you sat at the bar with the artists during their breaks between sets Taj Mahal was one of my heroes even at that young age, & just sitting there, 2 stools away, exchanging the occasional few words, what a thrill for me
One can't help but to feel sorry for the guy, he's free again and finds out that he's all alone, his brother dead and nowhere to go. The best funny movies have a really sad scene and this one along with the opening scene from "Up" qualifies as one of the saddest.
+RastaSaiyaman I'm right there with you, it is utterly heart breaking. And I do really feel I'm watching the same character even years later. Can't say that for a lot of sequels.
I love this song :), it by itself made the movie for me but the rest is amazing too I really love how it all came together, its waky an what youd expect from a Blues Brothers sequel in my honest opinion
starts out a little silly and raunchy but the last half hour or so totally saves it and i have to watch it over and over. It's all about the music people, who cares about a plot.
When I was baker acted at a psych ward in St Augustine, Florida back in June of 2022 this opening was playing on the tv in the main room and hearing this song made me laugh so hard for some reason. LOL!!
Blues Brothers 2000 might have been completely inferior to the original Blues Brothers movie from 1980, but this opening is surprisingly quite tearjerking. After everything Elwood had went through in the first Blues Brothers movie, he ends up losing the most valuable things he had all in one day: The band, the orphanage, Curtis, and Jake.
This beginning clip was very promising. Then it went down. The thing that got me the most is how Aykroyd played Elwood. His character was so good in the first movie. The guy in this movie called Elwood has nothing to do with the Elwood of the first movie. This track and this opening was very good though.
I'm agnostic, not gonna lie, but I still love Gospel like this at times. It's like the Christian equivalent to Jazz or Blues, making it quite fitting for this intro.
Great song. In regards to the movie, I see so many similarities to Smokey & The Bandit 2. The first couple acts were a solid start and set you up for what could be a good movie. But then it seems the writer just lost all interest and somebody else took over. The magic that the original Blues Brothers movie had was the fact that they played it straight. Like the original Airplane!, it was played straight and that made for serious laughs. Airplane 2 played for laughs and just wasn't funny. Just like here. They went over the top, playing for obvious laughs that just weren't funny. Personally, I like the start. Had it been more of an homage to Jake (John) and had the plot been more-or-less Elwood trying to reunite the band one last time all the while some of the enemies from the first movie are out for blood. Chuck McElroy, Twiggy, the two cops, Steve Lawrence (who we find out, never got paid - lol). Could've been a good flick.
This version of John the Revelator is sooo good. Prob best one next to Son House. As fas as this film it really sucked. Blues Bros 1st is one of the Greatest Films of all-time.....
Taj Mahal singing this song with just vocals and the handclaps was not on the Blues Brothers 2000 soundtrack CD. I bought a Taj Mahal CD with this song after hearing this, but is ended up being more like the version heard later in the movie. So disappointing.
Yes, I agree, in terms of plot the sequel was disappointing and a mere slightly modified carbon copy of the first, but the music really hits a something ;)
So I have a fan theory about what happened to Jake and Curtis: Jake got out of prison only to die several years later in a drug deal gone wrong inside the abandoned hulk of the Dixie Square Mall, and Curtis was so shook up over losing Jake, Elwood and the orphanage that he took his own life
Dean Williams I think Dan Aykroyd and John Landis knew it wouldn't be the same without John Belushi but tried to keep the theme that it's all about blues music. Legend musicians are on show once more! Yeah the storyline wasn't the greatest but the band battle scene is unforgettable if you love music!
It's got no plot, It's got no comedy, and it doesn't even have the other Blues Brother. Unless if you have something else to offer me, count me the fuck out of this.
