Absolutely not. Especially not if you have a family to support. People whine about lack of a “living wage”, living paycheck to paycheck, stagnant wages, etc all the time. The reason why people are in those positions is because they make stupid choices like this. It doesn’t matter if it’s “fulfilling” or not. The only thing that matters is how much money you make because “fulfillment” won’t pay the bills and send your kids to college, buy nice cars, buy food, or pay for vacation. Money does and will.
@@nightfangs2910 I would imagine the suicide rate among broke people in debt is also high. I followed my own advice and I’m fine. I retired in my 50s because I made lots of money and now I’m 100% stress free because I can do whatever I want. The caller could do what my neighbor did: follow the money and retire early and wealthy, then pursue your passion after you retire early. He was a sales executive for a massive corporation and retired in his early 50s and is now a substitute teacher because he loves working with young people. Now he’s wealthy and lives the rest of his life in luxury and he gets to do what he loves. I suffered depression when I was in college because my parents wouldn’t let me transfer to my now wife’s college because my dad made the same stupid career choice being discussed in this video and I considered suicide because of it.
I wouldn't say they are worse than Dave. He is their employer so the other hosts have to give advice as though they are Dave Ramsey and promote his financial steps program at the same time. I'm sure it's easier said than done. They can only speak their mind so much, but if it's not something old Dave will not agree with, you best believe they aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them.
I think the guy should make up that $70k difference with equity compensation at the smaller company. That in the long run will pay out more of the company if it's successful.
Sometimes large companies are so huge they can’t get out of their own way... bogged down in red tape and a culture of know-it-all-ism where the senior mgmt (leadership) is just a bunch of privileged, disconnected, overpaid idiots that speak out of both sides of their mouths.

I have a similar dilemma in my life coming up soon. I have an opportunity to work a different job that’s way less stressful than my current job but maxes out around $50k-$70k less than my current job. I’m likely to take that lower paying job because the stress and hours are way lower. If I feel I need the extra money, I can take those extra hours I gained back and do side work to make back ~$25k of that. But only if I want to, I don’t necessarily need the extra income, I’ll be more than comfortable on the lower paying job.
I quit as a UPS driver (which i hated so much) to grade roads for the county. A lot less money but also a lot less stress and I love going to work everyday now.
How do you feel about it now? I'm in a situation where I may have to take a pay cut and not that I'm motivated by money but I'm mostly scared I may not like it and now I'd be stuck with a much lower pay...
I think the lesson here was don't get yourself into debt 10's of thousands of dollars to get a German Poka History degree. Instead, become a software developer. Most of us would dream to make 170k/yr.
Until you're supporting a family (especially solo), or have high debts having gotten to success, follow your heart. The more possessions you possess, the further you cobble the ramparts a materialistic castle of emptiness.
I woke up this morning and my wife wasn’t in the house . I kinda new it was over cause I put my work boots on and there was a very large human poop in one of them. Pretty sure it wasn’t a present cause my birthday is not until next month.
I was in a very similar situation. Not the same salary like his, but good to me. I went with the less paying company, but I'll move up over time, and make more than the other place And be treated much better
Choosing the long term higher payout is the way to go. The problem is that too many people today will choose a job they like even if it has less long term pay and then they turn around and go on social media about how it’s successful peoples’ fault they’re poor and complain about lack of a “living wage”, wage stagnation, income inequality, and living paycheck to paycheck. Also definitely consider if you will like the people you will work with. Much research has been done and that has shown to be the biggest factor in happiness at work. You may find the work more interesting at the lower paying job but if you have to deal with nitwits all day then the other job is the better choice assuming the people at that company are more pleasant to work with. Or you may decide that you do not want to make a change because you presently like the people you work with and perhaps can negotiate something with your current employer.
Yes nasty coworkers who thinks newbie is a competitor or company culture of giving employees too much work but not paying them on overtime pay are big reasons for people to choose smaller salary but less stress level at work.
I want to get away from a very unproductive and negative manager at a university. His priorities are ONLY optics, and then projecting blame on us that things aren't getting done. Every day is him changing which direction we are headed, and it's like chasing our tails because he can't hold a focused vision. It makes me skin crawl. I feel like I've done nothing in the last two years other than be a scapegoat for a bad manager.
This is why I'm started IT Technician school Jan 11th. 12 month certificate know a gentleman who works in the field makes 70k He's in the online security's field
Say what you will but at a certain point, the salaries become so high that you should probably just do what you love. I'm in a similar situation but this man is torn between 170-240 K. I don't think the dream job is going to break him
Having multiple job offers is always the best leveraging tool. I had a Plan B offer that was higher than my dream job and it got me 20k more than the original job ad said for the job I actually wanted.
I wish they would have asked what babystep he is on. If he's debt free with a 6 month emergency fund it doesn't matter. If he has 100k+ in student loans the better paying job pulls infinitely more weight.
Good grief. Such high salaries!!! If dude is living happily beneath his means at 130k a year then he takes the job he loves and is now making an extra 40k play money. I make 40k total and live happily debt free.
I’d take the more paying job and keep living expenses the same and invest the rest in a business such as real estate and have an opportunity to retire early and spend more time with family
Before anyone goes gaga over these salaries--age discrimination is rampant in the tech industry. He needs to cash in while he can, because when he's 50 he won't be making anywhere near that.

Do it and save until you can retire early or work for any pay doing what you want. At that pay the pain of not being motivated can get you to freedom in a few years.
Tell that to your kids when they’re tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in college debt and can’t afford to buy a house and start a family because you chose a lower paying job just so you could have fun at work.

I hate the majority of these ramsey “personalities.” I get he’s trying to position himself so that he can retire, but the advice from the personalities are always so fearful and meek... own your stance coleman or I won’t listen to what you have to say
