RAF personnel and Typhoon fighter jets are currently deployed to Romania to help NATO police its eastern flank.
Op Biloxi is the continuous air policing mission above the Black Sea region shared between NATO allies but this iteration has seen twice as many sorties than any previous one.
We went to Romania to take a tour around the fighter jet patrolling NATO's skies.

The Royal Air Force really do a fantastic job with the limited resources they are given - hopefully the British defence budget will increase with a new PM coming into power and definitely considering the state of the world at the moment.

Sadly, the Russian Asset we have as PM right now, will still be PM around the end of 2023. And it's not the overall budget that's limiting the RAF, it's the money being siphoned off to consultants and private contractors who have inserted themselves between Government defence decisions and the procurement and deployment contracts - all at great expense with no material benefit or improvement of efficiency. BTW- I love the RAF and love the Typhoon - it rocks.

definitely some mistakes with this, first off the German military claim Mach 2.25+ not Mach 1.8 and the RAF typhoons don't use AMRAAM as its primary bvr missile as it uses the Meteor.

the speed is likely just an issue of official secrets, and we're still partway through transitioning to Meteor

Its almost tradition for RAF Manuals to understate the Speed of the Aircraft by now, it was the same on the Tornado (GR.1 Manuals are declassified) and Jaguar with the Manuals of the Italians/Germans and French respectifly all stating a higher speed

SENGO's talking s**t, the 'fore planes' are called canards. All drop tanks are supersonic (you drop them below supersonic speed unless you don't like wings on your aircraft), Pylons are called 'hard points', Flare dispensers are fitted as standard on the two most outward hard points on the wings. Chaff dispensers are also built into the wing.
@glennridsdale577
@glennridsdale577 2 года назад
I'm afraid it's you that's doing that! Why would an RAF Typhoon engineer know anything about the aircraft? You obviously know better. But for those on planet Earth who have sadly read your drivel... Canards are frequently called foreplanes (as opposed to mainplanes or wings). Most drop tanks ARE NOT supersonic rated and do indeed have to be jettisoned before supersonic acceleration because of their high drag and the risk of their structural failure: these do not. And no, they aren't going to rip the wings off the jet. The wings contain hard points, which are the internal structures on to which are mounted the external pylons - no they aren't the same thing, although that misunderstanding is very widespread. Typhoons have BOL 510 chaff dispensers within the rear of the outer missile launch pylons (these carry ASRAAM in the case of RAF jets); the inner flaperon actuator fairings contain flare dispensers for flares and Brite Cloud decoys. The video omitted to mention the towed decoys within the starboard wing tip pod. It also failed to mention the Meteor air to air missile, which is the FGR4's primary weapon, or the internal Mauser BK-27 gun. But nobody remembers everything!

Foreplanes and Canards are completely interchangable. Everyone I've ever dealt with in the RAF has called pylons pylons.
@rokuth

Have the FGR4 been cleared to carry Meteor BVR missiles? If I understand correctly, they can also carry ASRAAM missiles together with the AMRAAMs for CAP missions.
@1chish
@1chish 2 года назад
Yes the RAF FGR4 has been progressively upgraded and in its latest form is passed to deliver Meteor as well as AMRAAM and ASRAAM in the air to air role. It is also passed to deliver Paveway II and IV guided bombs and Brimstone guided missiles using the Litening III targeting pod (a later version of what the Tornados used) and Storm Shadow cruise missiles. And don't forget the 27mm Mauser internal gun. However not every FGR4 has been through the latest upgrade period and the new CAPTOR-E radar is being rolled out as it becomes available.

a plane that needs attitude control!?!?!? 0:44
@nightjarflying
@nightjarflying 2 года назад
All aircraft need attitude control [yaw, pitch & roll control] - the Eurofighter especially needs automated attitude control because it is designed to be negatively stable to maximise manoeuvrability. Impossible for the pilot on her own [without attitude control] to fly this monster.
@BeAFreePerson
@BeAFreePerson 2 года назад
@@nightjarflying I assumed it was a typo for altitude control?? Is it a technical term then?
@nightjarflying
@nightjarflying 2 года назад
@@BeAFreePerson It's not a technical term - it's older than the modern informal meaning of truculence - a modern American invention. Attitude refers to the position of a body - thus in aviation it is specifically the 'facing' of an object in flight compared to its flight direction [nose left attitude, nose down attitude etc etc].
