Hey FIT-GAMERS,
In this particular Fight Scene Breakdown, we are taking a look at a very quick sequence in the movie Taken. This one was hard to see because of the fast editing techniques and dark lighting, but we figured it out with some good old slow motion. Drill this one out with a friend, it's loads of fun :)

Awesome. Hoping to see more breakdowns from movies that excessively use shaky cam and quick cuts. They can be really difficult to comprehend. Very helpful to actually learn what's going on.

Making a separate channel may be a good idea. Or just a separate series? It doesn't seem like the hectic camerawork of modern action movies are going to go away any time soon unless John Wick/Atomic Blonde type movies become more popular.

JoeyBslash 3 Great to see an uploader who replies to comments even long after the video was uploaded - I appreciate that. :) If I may make a suggestion: could you please do the final fight scene from Taken 2 (the one-on-one fight)? According to the special features, I think they said Tang so do or something like that. This particular maneuver is in most martial arts though. I learned it in Filipino Kali, but I'm sure it's somewhere in gung fu, karate, krav maga, etc. All martial arts come to the same or similar conclusions (tactics and techniques) when they ask the proper questions for self defense.

Another great breakdown, thanks. I like that scissor move on the arm. Now I ask, should I watch all the Taken movies in slow motion, or will they use better camera work so we can actually see all the effort being put into these scenes, it seems like such a waste on the part of the producers.
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 6 лет назад
+Phil Badone Lol, it is kind of a waste. Same with the Bourne movies. I get why they do it and I think it is a good artistic choice, especially the way the rest of the movie is filmed, but you definitely can't see what is going on for the most part. Damn such quick thinking! Awesome video! Joey I have a very important question (has nothing to do with the video), I would love if you could answer. I have always been VERY passionate about learning ninjitsu but I can't EVER find a goddamn place to learn, its such a rare martial art its not even fun searching so much. The question is, is it a viable martial art? Is it something to go for so much? Because I don't see many martial arts I identify with such as ninjutsu. And last, would you recommend any other martial art that I could find that would fit that style?
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 7 лет назад
+TheDEATHHIT Well, I don't know much about ninjitsu at all. I've read that it is not like anything in pop culture, especially when they are dressed in all black. I read they dressed as everybody else to blend into the environment and such. What's your purpose for training and learning martial arts?
@TheDEATHHIT
@TheDEATHHIT 7 лет назад
JoeyBslash 3 Yes, you are right in those statements, its actually thought to be more of a tactical warfare thing than a martial art. Anyway, my purpouse? Huuum I think there are 3. 1 - To actually know how to defend myself and whoever need. 2 - To better my body, to do awesome things with it. 3 - One of the characters I'm creating is actually me, and I want to be able to do the things I would do in fiction in real life too, to stay original to me, the character, which is me. Well WTF!? XD
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 7 лет назад
+TheDEATHHIT Lol. I understand. If those are your reasons for training, I believe there are martial arts that will be much more useful nowadays than ninjitsu...unless you want to be an assassin lol. I can only really recommend the martial arts I'm training, Kali and Keysi. I've trained Jeet Kune Do a bit as well. MMA is good to train, but if you want to know how to protect yourself, don't rely on training a sport like MMA, boxing, etc. They are great and can be effective in the street, but they are martial arts based on rules and single opponents. To me, self protection training must include and be heavily based on weapons and multiple opponents.

Question for you my man I love these breakdowns and will definitely join online gym, I was wondering I know you wil separate the effective moves to the more showy flashy moves if I just focused on the functional effective moves will that be enough moves to consider it a complete well rounded system if I keep training on the online gym functional moves for years?
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 6 лет назад
+Mark Smith Absolutely! The Online gym is going to specialize in training people who have little to no prior experience or training in martial arts. It will have many moves straight from the games, bit it will also have tons of videos on basic drills and techniques that you can work on your own or with a partner. The goal of the gym is to get you up and training. Many of the moves from games will be tweaked as well to have a more functional aspect for self defense. I will most likely show the move as best i can from the game for a fitness aspect...and then show it tweaked for a functional aspect as well
@MarkSmith-gn2gt

+JoeyBslash 3 (FIT-GAMER) Awesome brother thanks so much so there will be enough functional material and functional drills to make a complete style?
@JoeyBslash3

Not this particular disarm. All he is really doing is striking the arm with his elbow. In order to disarm someone with a knife by striking them with an elbow, you need to be in a different position than shown here. Always remember, this is from a movie and should never be taken as real life self defense techniques.

Very cool, but in "real life" scenarios people fight dirty, scratching, kicking, going nuts, 99% of attackers are not going to LET themselves be taken down, and are very smart. Also JABS to the face are a key element to any real fight. Also, if they can't stand, they can't fight, go for the legs...that's what I was taught. ALWAYS.

Absolutely, improvised weapons are the first tactic if you have the time and range to employ them and are forced to fight. In this particular scene, Brian Mills (Liam Neeson) did not have any time for improvised weaponry, since he was not the actual target. He had to act quickly with a hands on approach. However, in real life, I would always advise gaining range and using improvised weaponry if possible in order to escape or if need be, incapacitate the opponent.

Why can't they film the fight scenes in taken, like they do in john wick, more steady camera work and minimum on the quick cuts?
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 4 года назад
They could, but that wasn't popular when Taken was filmed. The Bourne films made the quick cuts and shakey camera a popular way to film fight scenes, since they did it well, and the Taken films were made shortly after the Bourne movies. Then most other action films copied that.

JoeyBslash 3, does this counter attack really work in real life? And the way, which Mills throw his opponent by grabing his neck looks very cool.
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 7 лет назад
+Den Bob I don't know, it comes from a movie. I wouldn't trust it. I wouldnt trust any technique from a movie. A movie's purpose is to entertain. Real life is real life. Training is the key, but more importantly, training methods. I feel confident after training the clock throw and destructions that they work when performed properly. But in real life the variables in situations like this are substantial. This is choreography from a movie, and I'm just showing what moves or techniques are being employed. The best part about this sequence is the control tactics and strikes before attempting any disarm. What makes it look easy is that the attacker was going after the girl, not Mills. So it was easier for him to gain control of the knife before any strikes were employed.

Is this karate?
@JoeyBslash3
@JoeyBslash3 3 года назад
I'm sure there are techniques in Karate that are similar or the same. In the film's trivia, it is said that the martial art that Mills trains in is Tang So Do. I know this technique from Filipino Kali. So it doesn't really matter what martial art it's from, what matters are the movements shown.

well i am not a fighter of any kind and even when i tried attending muay thai or boxing classes i didnt like them, i am fresh recruit in special forces and i passed hungarian TEK self defense seminar and have some other basic hand to hand combat techniques they teached me so i can say from my narrow unexperienced view i can really see myself hitting you in several moments, the left arm is free and your head is not covered, also the clock takedown is ehh.. would work if was knocked out already and you would even lift my hand from there unless its broken and i would let you because of severe pain. Also that position how you hold the person on a choke position, you need to extend the arm to full lock and then twist wrist down, also a bit of weight with a knee of a chest would be good too, or even left knee on a neck and right knee on chest(works best if person lays on his chest and you hold your arm behind his back. ALSO when defending from this attack in this kind of style my right arm would be not behind his right arm, i would use my forearm to hit his neck against wall and push up a bit. Thats what i can see, i dont even know how many moves out of this my instructors would do!! TONS
