Takeshi Terauchi (寺内タケシ, 17 January 1939 - 18 June 2021), also known as Terry, was a Japanese instrumental rock guitarist. His preferred guitar was a black Mosrite with a white pickguard. His guitar sound was characterized by frenetic picking, heavy use of tremolo picking, and frequent use of his guitar's vibrato arm.
He began playing music in the late 1950s playing rhythm guitar for Jimmie Tokita & His Mountain Playboys, a country and western act in Japan. However, Terry was enthralled with surf guitar music which was all the rage in the early 1960s in America, then Japan.
In 1962, he formed his first group, The Blue Jeans and they quickly began covering American rock and roll. Within a year, they were one of Japan's best known acts thanks to records and live appearances.
This hard-rocking EP was released in 1964 - his first Christmas record. The following year, he would release another holiday EP called "Beat Christmas". By 1966, the ride of surf music was over and Terauchi quit the Blue Jeans to form another band called The Bunnys. He also formed his own company and continued recorded and produced albums for many others.
He reformed the Blue Jeans in 1969 and the band was been active and widely popular over the next five decades. Known as "King of the Surf Guitar" in Japan, Terry passed away in 2021 at the age of 82.
