So it was fun to listen to you guys answer these questions, but it defeats the purpose of the test to do it together. While I enjoyed your in depth responses to some of these, I kind of cringed when you ended up changing your answers to encompass the both instead of the individual. I get that you guys consider yourself a unit, but you're still two individual parts of that unit. Lol. This was fun to listen to and I like the glimpse this gave into your personalities. 💚💚

I was thinking the same, you overthink the answers. Just fill in your gut reactions. At one point Katelyn doesn't like a thing than it is negative that fact that she can do it doesn't make it a positive. Yeah she can do it, but her personality doesn't like it.

I felt the same way! I love this test and I love Evan And Katelyn, but I do think they should have taken the test and answered without revealing their answers before the other person answered. They kept switching to match eachother which is understandable because they get along so well, but it should be personal reflection not a group one. Oof maybe it's just my personality type that made me feel this way LOL. [INFJ]
@racheltopp

I totally agree. It would have been nice if they had used their gut instincts alone for a bit and then came together for the reveal. It’s hard to take a test like this when you’re bouncing off ideas on other people because of empathy.

I agree. I've taken the test twice. Both times (10+ years apart) I was different but simular results. You have to just answer the questions and not overthink the answers. The tests aré inherently inaccurate the ideal way would be to read all the descriptions and learn a lot about them to see which one you really identify with, but just read a few of the descriptions and one might sound like ohh this is exactly me. I have a masters in psych and would like to say that you get the most accurate answers by (what people have also mentioned below): 1. You need to do them alone 2. You need to try to stick with your first gut answer You essentially create your own results by providing your own answers to the questions. So if the results aren't relatable, something went wrong in the testing process. I get you discussed them for entertainment purposes, and I really enjoyed it :) Several of my friends and I did the test too and we were shocked by how accurate it was.

Sooooo Enneagram is another one you could try, Big Five too. MBTI and Enneagram attempt to discuss motivation though, Big Five not so much. I'd definitely recommend reading through them all and see if any fits well. I'm an INTP but got INTJ but when I read INTP and something just... clicked. And suddenly the test didn't matter all that much. You do have to pretty self-aware but I don't think you two are lacking in that department.

It is ironic that I didn’t get an Analyst since I am a data analyst IRL 😂 I wonder if you both would have had different results if you took the test alone since it seems like you each had different interpretations of the same questions and then ended up swaying each other’s answers.

I am an INFJ-T and for me it was mindblowing to be finally understood! The basis of MBTI is more complex than 16personalities; looking into the cognitive functions (there is a test on IDR labs) it will tell you more about the underlying functions of the personality types.

haha this was fun, but I agree that you definitely talked yourself out of a lot of more true answers. I skipped a bunch, but here's an example from the beginning. Katelyn said her instinct is to solve people's problems when they come to her, but catches herself and gives emotional support instead. The question literally asked is it your instinct to solve problems? And K was like, nah that's not me 🤦‍♀️. I love the MBTI types but you have to be brutally honest, and not over think. Also, remember they are just a way of categorizing how you tend to initially respond to things, not saying that you never do or never will respond in other ways. That's why they show the percentages for each characteristic.

I was very sceptical of this test before I took it. I ended up INFP, the mediator, and it describes me pretty darn accurately, even down to what I want to work with. I think you might have gotten very results if you didn't take the tests together because you do influence each other 😊

It sounds to me like the personality test Evan took years ago might've been "the color code" which breaks down into 4 colors (red, blue, yellow, white). That one is based more on motivation and relationships, and interestingly you take the quiz based off of how you were as a child-also discusses how within your color you can be "highly functioning" to take into account how you learn and grow. I'm a yellow (motivated by fun) but there's many ways I would classify myself as highly functioning because I've learned and developed habits that I wouldn't necessarily have been motivated to do as a kid
@constancemc
@constancemc 3 года назад
Yep that's the Insights test, where blue is Analyst, yellow is Enthusiast/Motivator, green is Empathetic/Nurturing and red is Director. It gives you a breakdown of how much of each you are, what is your dominant and secondary trait, what would be the opposite personality type etc. It's very much used in the workplace to define management types and abilities, as well as compatibility between coworkers at a management level

Been wondering about this for a while actually and this was so much fun to watch! Just wanted to say that the 16personalities test is notoriously bad at correctly typing people because they just focus on the letters and use a lot of stereotypes, they don't focus on the cognitive functions (i.e. how you view the world and how you process information and make decisions) behind the personality types and there's a strong bias towards feeling (I mean, most thinkers don't actually go over other people's backs to get ahead in life). The questions are also very ambiguous sometimes. I get INFP on this test but am actually a (very non-stereotypical) ENTP. So, on to my guesses. Everything about Evan (both how he motivates his answers here and how he expresses and carries himself in all of your videos) just screams extraverted intuition to me so if you disagree with the INFJ description (I do, you're not mysterious at all, you bubbly authentic open book you ♥) you might want to read up on the xNxP types, and especially ENFP. Although outgoing, just like my type (ENTP) they're generally quite introverted for extroverts (often describe themselves as ambiverts), energetically speaking. The combination of your current lifestyle and living together with/being attuned to a J type may have also caused you to give a few answers that are based on adaptation and taught behavior instead of natural tendency. Katelyn might want to look into the INFJ and INTJ descriptions. I'm not very good at typing J types (yet?) but considering how okay she is with philosophical stuff, how well you guys connect to each other (there's a rumor that there's a magical connection between ENxP and INxJ types), and also how much both of you value logic (most N types, even the feelers and especially the introverted ones, often value logic quite a bit in their day to day decision-making) one of those might fit you better than ISFJ. If you do want to know more the 16personalities website might not be the best place though, it's mostly just stereotypes. The personalitygrowth.com website actually goes into cognitive functions and does so fairly well in my opinion. Regarding these cognitive functions, the test on sakinorva.net/functions is often mentioned as one of the better ones but even just reading about cognitive function stacks works quite well if you know yourself well enough. If you want to be more scientific, the big 5 test is actually much more widely acclaimed by actual psychologists but imho also less fun. Also, just a random addition, even though I think horoscopes are pretty pseudoscientific I'm now about 112% certain Katelyn is a Virgo and 82% sure that Evan is an air-type (Aquarius > Libra > Gemini, from most to least likely) or maybe a very bubbly water-type. But hey, I'm a Pisces ENTP which doesn't make any sense at all so who knows? Looking forward to that podcast! Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk and again, this was so much fun to watch so thank you for my daily dose of procrastination! ♥

Oh my gosh, I've always been so curious!! I'm one of those people who always guessed what you might be. I'm so excited to watch this! I'm an ENFP -(Turbulent) So some of my traits are kind of only 40% that thing and then 60% the opposite. I like that the Myers-Briggs test lets you see that detail and spend more time reflecting on it than just saying: You're extroverted! It's much more meaningful to reflect on how much you relate to your social preferences, or what occasions in your life do you plan out versus what times in life do you just go brazenly into things.

Also if you just look up mbti on google images you can find the one where it asks you four questions for each letter. And it is important to note that we all see part of ourselves in many of the types, but it's really about which letter in each of the four categories you perfer/do more. Hope I could help.😄

I'm really happy you guys did this cause I was curious about your types for the longest time. I thought Evan might be an INTP like me because I related really hard as to how he goes on side tangents and to other people he make "jumps" in logic. (Everything makes sense in my heard) It look a long time for me to be able to figure out how to explain my thoughts to other people so I think it's amazing that there's someone like Katelyn who understands how to navigate and work with Evan's thought process. INTP's frequently learn for knowledge's sake and especially in the end where Evan suggested to read through all the personalities really resonated with me. Also as a fellow tinker/maker, if you have watched "How to Train Your Dragon", Hiccup is typed as INTP. Also when I took the test, I didn't resonate with all the positive stuff from the results but the negatives were spot on.

The quiz y'all took is definitely one of the more accurate ones for determining your MBTI **provided** that you give quick, gut reactions. Without overthinking, it should only take 10-15 minutes to complete. I've taken that quiz myself after having taken several more ambiguous quizzes in the past. I consistently got the same result and felt that both the positive and negative traits were fairly spot on (although no personality quiz/MBTI should be taken as a complete definition for who you are) Still really loved the podcast and hearing you discuss your thoughts behind each answer!

As for the Meyers-Briggs, I'm an INTJ (strong I too). We're supposedly a little rare (2% iirc) but there are some amazing people who are (were) INTJs. Okay, long winded comment here... Personality psychology is a passion of mine and I am aware of the Myer's -Briggs 16 types, but I personally have been a part of a typing class by objective personality where they have figured out( still figuring out) a scientific way of typing someone so that it is objective and comparable to others typed. Which in comparison to taking a test yourself, only about 50% of people type themselves correctly in an online test. I'm laughing because the one type you remember INTJ is actually my type 😂 (BTW the sterotype of INTJs being evil masterminds is untrue. We just have a complex and creative way of integrating the knowledge we recieve into the concepts and ideas ws use in life.) Also only about 2% of people actually are INTJs but everyone wants to be one-- ehoch they shouldn't. INTJs have a whole load of issues themselves... I was typed by professionals but the whole function stack Ni Te Fi Se-- the bottom two just basically mean we suck at emotions and reality... Which is awful. My full 512 type for Obejective personality is MM Ni/Te BS/C(P) which is a lot ik lol. I am not great at typing yet (I've typed my family) but knowing about cognitive functions and Carl Jungian's theories really helps make personality typing less of a pseudo science and stereotypes and more of a tool to help you work on the gaps and weaknesses in your skills and how you handle life. Which is the big picture for using personality types in your life... It should be a tool and NOT an identity.

Female INTJ? Hello, fellow unicorn! I'm also fascinated by personality typing (and psychology in general, as that's part of what I studied in college), and I really wish this weren't the version of the test that went viral! Everyone is taking this one, and it's so unreliable. Apparently the questions are actually based on the Big Five personality scale and not actually Myers-Briggs, which...why? I've seen it type some people accurately and then some people so inaccurately. And then their explanations of the types are so weird and vague. I don't know if you've seen Frank James on youtube, but he does funny videos about the myers-briggs types and he's done a couple videos explaining why this site isn't the best. Though I disagree with some of his conclusions (his analysis of Ben Shapiro's test results was off in my opinion), he makes really good points.

Btw myers briggs is like astrology for college goers ahahah. Also it turns out that it isnt actually accurate in some ways and that its why it isnt actually used in psychological environments as a standard test. They use another one bit im not sure what is the name

I think Evan’s color test was probably NeuroColor (or something similar). It is used a lot in corporate/nonprofit work environments to help improve the communication and effectiveness of teams. The colors match what he said as well: red, yellow, blue, green.

I’ve taken this test and it got my correct personality dead on. I think where you both went wrong is that you need to not think it through, but go with your first gut response to each question. And you need to answer the questions for how you feel and not as couple. I’ve been taking personality tests throughout my life and I’ve never really change all that much I’m a INFP-T or turbulent mediator, I think you guys should give it another try you might get more accurate results.

The first time I did this and I turned out to be an INFP-T (the mediator, if I'm not mistaken) I was in a kinda very emotional phase of my life and even tho I saw myself in most of the words used to describe that personality, I thought I was just illuding myself I was special because I needed to hear it in that moment. After some months (after I found a little more emotional stability), I repeated the test, trying to be more objective and honest with myself, and I ended up again in the same category. I wasn't much happy with it, because the test says it's a "rare" personality, and a pretty admirable one too (it's supposedly the same personality as Tolkien, and I admire that man a ton), and I always felt like I was the least special or admirable person on the planet, so it really couldn't be me. So I took it again after some months, again trying to be more honest about my answers, and then again and again after more than a year. It always assigned me to the same personality. I came to the conclusion that I either answer to the questions with too much idealism rather than my actual personality, so the results can't get that different, or maybe I'm little like that for real. I also found out that many people in the "artistic" community online end up with the same personality as me, and tho I don't consider myself an artist, I do like to draw and write in my free time. So maybe, just maybe, I'm a little bit like that. I don't know. I'll have to take the test again.

It’s kinda funny. I feel like my personality type, infp-t I think, is pretty accurate to me. When it comes to my horoscope, however, is a different story. Maybe it’s just because I don’t understand zodiac sign stuff, but I’m not sure. I think maybe that personalities are so complex and there are so many nuances that you can’t to really fit people into a box. I feel that a good bit of this is kind of just taking a shot in the dark and hoping that it’s accurate to the individual that takes the test. The quiet mysterious bit was something though. 😅

My company is big on the MB personality test and actually does a two day training at corporate for all new hires, with a lot of workshops and interactive exercises. (I'm INFJ, but the J was borderline, so it's probably flipped by now.) I really feel like you have to go with your first impulse when answering questions, so that over the course of many similar questions, it can give a better idea of your personality type. Thinking about it too much dilutes the results sometimes which is why there were so many similar questions. (Also, would have probably helped to take them individually and not together.) Our company uses it mostly to understand how to interact with people of other personality types. For instance, you may be working with someone who is a completely different personality type than yourself, so by looking them up on the intranet, you can find their four-letters, consult the training book and see the best way to interact with them. Like, maybe they are more of a feeling person, so you are more aware of how you phrase things or how you say things. Or, if they are more logical, you can appeal to that side of them when working on projects. (Let's be honest here . . . almost no one does that, but it does come up a lot over time as you start to identify highly visible people in the company and how spot on their personality types are. And it becomes a bit of a punchline sometimes.) I'm not an advocate one way or the other, just wanted to share my experience. This was a great podcast, though! Thanks for sharing with us.

Mine was clearly and unequivocally accurate. I’m naturally suspicious and untrusting of things like this... But, I’ve been in such a time of internal struggle lately that I know myself and my personal struggles and priorities very very well right now. I read through every page and each article matched me to a T. But I also took a long time to answer each question accurately. Overall, the analysis they gave me provided a lot to think about and a lot of the answers were things that I knew to be true in myself but had been trying to deny for a long time.

I'm an advocate (but turbulent, not assertive) INFJ-T, and i don't think Evan is an advocate. I was 86% introvert, 52% intuitive, 64% feeling, 64% judging and 69% turbulent. And that was definitely 100% accurate of who I am. lol

A good one is that Hartman Color code, it's fairly accurate and you can identify with multiple. I'm a Blue White, and I feel like Evan would be a Yellow White and Katelyn will be a White Red. The order your top two is based on your percentage. White is the peace maker, red is the detail orientated hard worker, blue is the self conscious empathetic, and yellow is the extroverted creative.

Evan is INTJ, Katelyn is ENTJ. It is hard to type themselves acuratelly on first try, and almost impossible in Myers-Briggs, because definitions and questions are not tied to cognitive functions. Evan's cognitive functions are Ni-Te-Fi-Se, Katelyn's Te-Ni-Se-Fi. Working together on a project is Te-Fi, and they always discuss definitions and reasons, so they know, that they think the same way. In general, Fe-Ti prefer to work independently. Also, this whole channel is very: "let's do something, and see, what happens". Which is how Ni-Se work.

No way Katelyn is an ENTJ! She's not an extrovert - neither of them are: I think being RU-vidrs confuses things, because it's the perfect platform for introverts to connect with people without direct socialising. I'm an ENTP and I'd never have the patience to sit in and edit videos because I'm always out socialising!
